"Incredible location, discusting rooms"
This hotel hotel is probably the best location in NYC. Because of this, the the owners have Allred the rooms to be neglected for many years. Nasty carpet, water damage on the ceiling, bathroom falling apart and strong mildew smell. We were shocked at how gross the room was. Better off staying at another Hilton property close by.
"Good hotel, but showing its age & details were definitely missed"
This was not my first time staying at the Doubletree Suites Times Square, though it had been a few years but I was excited to return. While the staff was pleasant, the hotel was well-located and the rooms were big (and having the suite was helpful because we had 2 young boys who went to sleep on the pullout couch in the “living room” much earlier than we did and we were able to close the door between the rooms), there were definitely signs that the hotel was starting to show its age and a few of the details were missed, causing our stay to be less than perfect. One of the major issues was that the bathtub stopper was completely broken, which we reported to the hotel staff twice since we wanted to give our boys a bath at the end of the day; when we returned after a full day of sightseeing, the replacement part was sitting in a box on our bathroom sink, but no repairs had been attempted. Other bathroom-related issues included the fact that the door between the main bedroom and the bathroom didn’t close all the way due to a bad fit or misalignment, so I woke up my wife when I went to the bathroom and tried to close the door. Also, when we arrived in the room, I lifted the toilet seat to find the room’s previous occupant had “bad aim”, but housekeeping had not lifted the seat to clean. Other minor issues included the fact that a previous occupant had also left water in the coffeemaker, which was an unpleasant surprise for us when we went to make coffee on our first morning and found the coffeemaker smelling like mildew. Our bedsheets had black spots on them, and the mattress had a couple of busted springs. The sprinkler/fire-suppressant system heads were extremely dusty and gross-looking (both in the room and in the hallways), looking like they hadn’t been attended to in a very long time, so I hope they still work. In several of the elevators, the button for our floor did not light up when we pressed it, and neither did the elevator-call button on our floor, so we never knew if the elevator was coming to our floor until it showed up and we never knew if we were being dropped off on our floor until it stopped there. While one or two of these issues would’ve been easily overlooked, together they show a bit of lack of caring/attention to detail and add up to a not-so-great experience, which was especially bothersome given how much we were paying for the room.
"Nice Time Square Hotel"
We had never been to NYC so we wanted to stay near Times Square. This was a good choice given the convenient location. There were 4 of us in the room. I had to make up the sofa bed. Apparently it wasn't comfortable. I tried to call for towels because they only provided 3. The phone didn't work but there happened to be a cart outside with towels. The staff was great about ensuring the security of the hotel and making sure only guests entered. Being in time square the lights outside kept us up. The drapery didn't cover the entire window. We hung a coat over the drapery gap and that worked well. It was cleaner than I expected.
"Great location, good value"
ON Times Square. walk right out front door to the "Only in Times Square" parade. Perfect location for theatre-going (ALL major theatres are within 1-3 blocks). Good food - everything we had at nearby delis, Italian, Junior's, etc. was better than what we have at home! More authentic the more you narrow down. Nearby grocery & delis for snacks, drinks, etc. for the room. Hotel is starting to show its age slightly, some details need review - the phone charging stations in our room didn't work well. Bathroom needs exhaust fan - or can get steamy/sticky with 2+ people. And, they push joining the "Hilton Club Vacations" to the edge of annoyance. Good, well-trained staff, every request pleasantly responded to. Room is small-ish but comfortable.
