"Hotel number 2 of a 4 city holiday break"
Hotel reception staff where not very helpful or friendly but the doormen where good and helpful. Hotel near Empire State Building and Chrysler building but apart from that would not recommend it. Ok if you where there on business.
"Great location and large room"
I was very surprised by this hotel. It has very large rooms with a small kitchen. I was able to go nearby and get breakfast food. The room was extremely quiet and clean. I would return. It is close to the subway.
"Excellent $ value, excellent location, we'll miss it when it's gone"
We've stayed at the Dumont many times over the last 2-3 years. The rooms are much larger than in most NYC hotels. Most rooms have a full kitchen, which is a nice feature if you're going to be there a while. It's really convenient to the 34th Street and Lexington Ave express buses and the Lexington Avenue IRT, which makes getting to most museums a snap. There's a lot of great little neighborhood restaurants within a couple of blocks. But best of all - many rooms have a spectacular northern view, featuring the Chrysler building and times square. Sadly, the hotel has been sold to a residential rental developer, and will be closing around June 1 (or so we've been told). There are plenty of hotels nearby, including another Affinia, but none have the view or the location of the Dumont. Oh well.
If I could give this hotel 6 stars I would! Great neighborhood location, quiet, 2 blocks to a metro stop or easy walk west to Macy's. We had a wonderful room on a top floor with windows looking south and east for a magnificent view day and night. The room was spacious, the beds very comfortable and there is a nice kitchen and great desk for work station. The reception was so friendly. In the late afternoon there is a cocktail hour with red and white wine in the lobby. We had a very minor problem with the cooling system and right away someone came up to repair. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. I just wish I could have stayed on for a week or more. A home away from home in NYC! One can't ask for more! Thank you everyone!
"Okay in prime location but overpriced"
I've stayed here a couple of times for work and I am less than impressed. The last time I stayed I booked a week long business trip for my colleague and I and I had to call multiple times to fix the name issue (website booking isn't user friendly) and I still had to address the issue at check in. They have a happy hour and $10 credit a day but sometimes they forget to tell you at check in and the credit doesn't roll over. I feel not appreciated for my long stay. Sometimes there are random charges you have to address after your stay as well. I much prefer the Hilton down the street.
