"Edinburgh Marriott "
We checked in on the Friday for one night as we were having a weekend in Edinburgh for the Christmas market. We checked in at 3pm got given our keys to our room. We had a few drinks at the bar. You could not spend the evening there as it was very expensive. We went into the town to have a meal and a few drinks. In the morning we got woke up at 8.30 am by the maid to clean our room. She realised we were still sleeping she said she would come back. We were then up so got ready for breakfast then came back to our room to relax and have our showers before heading out for the day. The Maid came back to our door again to get in at 10.30am. There is no excuse for this when you get a check out time of 12pm and unless you have checked out you should not have a maid trying to get in to clean your room twice. It did make me angry and spoiled our stay. I’ve never been annoyed like that before in any other hotel we have stayed in. You can’t tell me they can’t get a hold of a list of guests that have checked out. It made you feel as though they were hurrying you out the door. Would we go back no we would not.
Hotel has lots of free parking and bus stop is just across the road. Bus 100 runs 24 hours 7 days a week every 10 minutes and takes about 30 minutes during rush hour. The bus is only £1.60 bargain and stops right outside zoo and murryfield stadium and Princes Street for shops last stop is waverly station. Hotel is spotlessly clean lovely rooms and had a big comfy bed. Room has all you need fridge tea/coffee iron and board hairdryer. Lovely spa with pool jacuzzi steam room and sauna and we'll equipped gym. Food is average and expensive so is the bar which is why I have only given this review four stars and not excellent. Staff all very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.
"Lovely stay again. Great stay and park scheme."
We have utilised this hotel over the years. They have a great stay and park scheme where you can park your car while on holiday. They organise the taxi to the airport for you and on return you hand over the taxi receipt at the reception and they pay you the price of the fare. Great scheme. When we arrived the staff were struggling as their computer systems had crashed. Our luggage was taken from us and we were told to have a drink at the bar till they were up and running again. 30 minutes later the receptionist arrived at our table with our room key. The room was lovely and clean as usual with a variety of pillows on the bed plus extra pillows if required. The only issue we had that night was the evening meal at the hotel restuarant. I've posted up on the restuarants TA site but it was not up to the high standards we have found on our last 5 visits. The chef may have had a bad night that day. 😁 On our return 7 days later we arrived at 10:30 and had booked an early check in. The room was available right away and we were upgraded to a junior suite. A great surprise and a fantastically large area to chill in. We went to the lounge bar and had a lovely bacon and egg muffin plus coffees then 4 hours well deserved sleep As we had not had a good experience in the restuarant on our initial visit we went into the city via the tram service. The station is only 5 minutes walk away and only £3.40 return. A 35 minute journey. One thing we also noted was that there is a service charge added to our bill at the restuarant and bar. I cannot remember this in the past but as a gratuity is also added we thought that it should be one or the other. It's a shame as we always like to leave the hard working staff a tip. Anyway the hotel is still a great place to stay in and relax as the rooms are lovely. The beds are so comfortable and all the staff are amazing and friendly. They cannot do enough for you. See you all again in January. I would normally mark 1 star down due to the evening meal we had, but ive highlighted the issues on the restuarant site. I would not like to mark down the entire hotel experience and the staff again.
"Not as good as I expected "
We stayed for three nights. Our room was small but ok, as was the bathroom. The bed was ok but by night 3 my back ached. It seemed clean but we noticed on the second day it hadn’t been vacuumed. The hairdryer wasn’t much good for someone with long hair. The biggest disappointment was breakfast- I would rate it as poor to average. Poached eggs weren’t offered, the fried eggs had been sitting under the lights for a while and my coffee wasn’t hot and we had to ask for another. I could go on. We decided to eat elsewhere on days 2 and 3. On a positive note all staff were very pleasant and helpful and the Leisure club was really nice.
"Food was a let down"
Stayed 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast. Lots of room to park the car and it’s free and check in was quick. Nice room lovely and clean (no robes or slippers in room) So didn’t use the spa. Tea and coffee in room and plenty of toiletries which are replenished every day, lovely white bath sheets. Pillows not comfortable for us, but 5hats a personal thing. Evening meal included in the rate wasn’t great. Very poor choice. Minestrone soup was awful, we ordered burgers for main (not what I would usually order) but didn’t like any other main. They were served on plates that were 4 inches wide and about 6 inches long. As soon as you try and cut into the burger the food falls off the tiny plate onto the table or floor. This needs to be addressed. The next night we asked if we could order room service as part of our deal which they kindly agreed too. The food was gorgeous and served on full size round plates. Breakfast has gone downhill I used to love marriot breakfast I’ve had quite a few in different hotels but it’s changed, presumably trying to save money. Cheap sausages, hash browns that could break your teeth dry black pudding. The drinks in the bar are ridiculously expensive 1 x double gin with 1 bottle of tonic and 1 x bottle of koppergerg was 17.75. No wonder the bar was empty. However the staff are fantastic and I would stay again but on a room only basis.
