"Our fourth trip."
We absolutely love this property. It's a boutique resort with all of the necessary amenities and care you could possibly want. The food is always second to none along with the service. you'll not go wrong if you want to get away for a relaxing vacation.
"Nice Resort and Staff...Mixed Review"
My husband and I had a week stay at this resort this past Labor Day week to celebrate his birthday. While we ultimately enjoyed ourselves, there were some definite pros and cons to the El Dorado Maroma resort. 1. Though on the smaller side the resort grounds and beach are really quite picturesque. The grounds are kept clean and it really does look like the pictures you see on the website. However, everything is much closer than you can imagine. You could walk anywhere on the property and get from one place to the other in 5 minutes or less. The ground floor suites closer to the main area were quite close to the walk paths. Especially the beachfront suites. The walk paths would be 3 to 5 feet from the end of someone’s patio. This was pretty much the same for all the suites on the ground floor. Even with the swim up suites you only had maybe 6 or 7 feet space between your patio, the pool and the walk path. We had a swim up suite and luckily it was in the villa off to the side so there really wasn't a pathway in front of our pool, however this was the exception. Pro- You can get around the resort easily with little time taken Con- It is hard to relax on your private patio when people are constantly walking literally 3 feet away from your patio bed. 2. I thought this was one of the better beaches that I have been to in Mexico. Though you may find that seaweed washes up on the beach quite often, I did observe that the hotel staff cleaned it up daily on a frequent basis. Pro- Pretty beach and unlike a lot of other resorts, the cabanas on the beach are included with your all-inclusive amenities (no extra charge) as is the beach butler service. We were able to get a cabana everyday with no problem (no searching for a free cabana or beach chair as several seemed to always be available) Con- They didn’t have many beach butlers so it did take 30 plus minutes for a butler to come by and another 20 plus minutes to get any drinks you ordered. 3. The staff really was nice and accommodating. Paola (concierge in Villa 12 was awesome) as was as Giselle (concierge in Villa 12 and at Hotel front desk). Our Concierge and staff at the front desk were really attentive and checked up on us daily to check in with how things were going, see if we had any issues and to make sure there wasn’t anything we needed. 4. The food…what to say about the food. I know they market themselves as a gourmet resort however I would only agree with that if by gourmet you mean small portions (I’m talking half a Cornish hen that was still bloody inside or an average of 3 oz of meat for an entrée. Ordered breakfast and asked for hash browns and they gave me 5 overcooked tater tots, each time) and it looks fancy. If by gourmet you mean the taste and quality of the food then I wouldn’t necessarily agree. The beef served was not a good quality of beef. Very tough, stringy and fatty. The only restaurant (and 2 of them were closed) that the food was good was Papitos. This was the only buffet style restaurant there. The staff in Papitos were awesome. The other issue with the restaurants is that you had to make reservations for all dinners that were not at Papitos (at the beginning of your stay for the entire stay) and Papitos was not open every day for dinner. This took a lot of flexibility out of your vacation. One night my husband was not feeling well and needed a small nap to help restore himself. He couldn’t because we would miss our dinner reservation at 6:00pm and there was no other place we could go to later because we had no reservations anywhere else. We went and had to leave before we were served dinner. We ended up ordering from room service 2 hours later when he felt better instead. If we had the flexibility he could have taken a nap then we could have went to dinner a little later when he felt better. Also, the wat time for servers was an issue. It could only be 5 other couples and you still had a very long wait time to be served. Again the only place we didn’t experience this was at Papitos. Room Service was 24 hours but for the first two days of our stay we waited over 2 hours each time we ordered room service (Thanks Paola for getting room service to deliver to us quicker thereafter). Also, the menu was very limited and they didn’t always get your order correct. 5. The resort seemed to cater to a slightly older crowd. My husband and I are in our 40’s and we seemed to be some of the youngest vacationers there. I would say the average age of the couples staying there were in the mid to late 50’s. I don’t know if it was the season that we were there but literally every young couple we encountered was there on their honeymoon. While none of this is necessarily a bad thing, it did seem like the majority of people kept to themselves and it was quite deserted most of the time. Every evening we would walk to the restaurant and never come across anyone that was not a hotel staff member. So no mingling amongst the guest really. Again, this may be due to the slightly older and honeymooner crowd. Pro- if you want to be secluded and plan on a relaxing intimate vacation this is the resort. Con- if you want to mingle and get to know people vacationing from all over the world then this is not the place. They didn’t even have an outside area to mingle/gather. Actually even when we went to the bars, we were usually only one of two, maybe three couples there at most. 6. We had the “timeshare/membership” meeting as some of the other reviewers mentioned, and what I didn’t like was that they said it would only be an hour and it was more like 2 ½ to 3 hours. We chose the spa certificate as a thank you gift but ended up not using it because the meeting took so long, thus it threw off the other scheduled plan we had. The 30 min spa was not worth the 3 hour meeting you had to sit in. 7. A definite Pro is that the adventure place where you do the ATV, Speedboat, Snorkeling, Swim with the Dolphins, etc was on the same beach. You just walked through a gate or a foot past the (imaginary) property line on the beach and you were there. Like I said, there are some definite pros and cons to this resort. Did we enjoy ourselves' Yes. However, my husband and I can go with the flow and make the most of any situation, not to mention we enjoy each other’s company. Have we had a better experience at other resorts' Yes. I think choosing this resort comes down to what you are looking for in your vacation. If it is an intimate experience where you really want a quiet atmosphere, to be alone and relax by yourself or as part of a couple, you will enjoy the experience at El Dorado Maroma. However, if you are vacationing with friends or you and your partner want to mingle and meet people, have some kind of nightlife entertainment and good, plentiful food then El Dorado Maroma may not be the resort that you are looking for.
"A review of El Dorado Maroma...vrs the other places others review'"
As the title says, I can't believe some guests can stay here and have anything other than a great experience. I sometimes think perhaps they stayed at a different resort! This was our first trip to Mexico and El Dorado Maroma, but not our first trip to the Carribean 5 star resorts. And this one has spoiled us to go anywhere else! Wow wow wow! The rooms, the beach, the food, the people, the grounds....all five star. Room service was SO good, and on time, we ordered it three times! Our dinner before dinner. Hey we were on holidays why not. The presentation of room service was like a private dining experience. Beautifully set up with an explanation of everything we ordered. The room. Stunning. We had a honeymoon suite in Building 5, top floor. Amazing view! And doing the stairs was welcome exercise after all our indulgences. Our concierge Alex and David were top notch. Attentive, helpful and simply there to help with anything at all. Our beach butlers Manuel and Eli were THE BEST. Manuel went above and beyond in caring for us on the beach. He is a very large part of why we will return! Our servers Eroin, David, and our hostess Sinthia were so great! And Augustin was like a long lost friend. We felt very cared for. The night time fire show was first class. We missed most of the night time shows as we were so tired from our days in the sun. The Mexican Fiesta night was very memorable. The breakfast at Papitos and Mio were superb (try the Citrus soup!). Lima Lemon became our place to go for something sweet as their chocolate mousse was to die for! The sushi on Oriental night at Papitos was excellent. And we are sushi snobs. I was blown away. The spa was lovely. We went three times! Tip: Buy from the fellow on the beach to get the best deals! The beach. Oh, that beach! It is true there is some seaweed close to shore but once you get through that it is clear and stunning. You can walk out forever and still be chest high. Once you go onto the other side of the sandbag island, you feel like you are the only people in the world. Very romantic. We had a school of fish (about 40-50 I would guess) jump in unison out of the water in front of us. Jaw dropping experience! Snorkeling is great there too, stay close to the sandbags and you will see a lot of different types of fish. We are beach people through and through. We went in the pool once. The beach and the water every single day. You never had to play the towel game, lots of beach beds available. Speaking of towels, they put them on the beds for you each morning. Nice touch! I am sure I am forgetting to mention people, and experiences, but if you want a romantic, 5 star, relaxing holiday where you are spoiled beyond belief, look no further. This is an amazing resort.
Most "Excellente" 13 visits to this boutique resort and it only gets better each visit back.... From the gourmet food, luxury ocean front accommodations and stellar service, this is truly a magical resort in the Yucatán. This is the most relaxing and quietiest of El Dorado's resorts. If you want late nights and partying, try El Dorado Royale down the road. While all the staff are exceptional, I'd like to personally thank Jorge (butler), Daniel (head butler) & Ruben (candlelight dinner) for going that extra step in making it an unforgettable trip. Also big thanks to Rene, Ricardo, Joshua, Simon, Juan, Flugencio, Elio, Franklin, Alfredo (Servers), Roberto, Ivett (Chef), Victor, Janelly, Ines (Butler), Augustin (El Capatain) and all the others at Exotic & Maroma that made our vacation special! Muchos Gracias!
"Great Extended Weekend Escape"
Wonderful small resort with a great beach and excellent service. I recommend the morning yoga class with Jesus - great teacher and a fabulous way to begin you day. The spa services were a bit disappointing and too expensive. The food was great and the service (pool bar and beach) was outstanding.
