the hotel is very conveniently located at the hart of Royal Mile. The staff was very friendly and helpful with superb attitude. The room was very tidy and nice and surprisingly quit although we had windows to the Royal Mile. Breakfast was a good continental with swift service and good variety of options to choose from.
This hotel is contemporary in places a little quirky, but it manages to combine this with comfort and excellent service from friendly staff. Although a little small the queen size bed was reasonably comfortable. The choice on offer for breakfast was very good and prepared to a good standard. The bar and public areas are very good.
"Excellent location, great stay"
First let me say I got a great deal via Secret Escapes, paying less than half price. I stayed for two nights with my 12 year old daughter, we had a twin signature room (203) which looked out over the city and Arthur's Seat. The room was the usual size for the uk, with 2 chairs and a table but no dressing table. The beds were comfortable, the pillows were a little soft but two per bed. As other reviewers have said there isn't a lot of storage (2 drawers with a space above for a small suitcase, but ample hanging space. Complimentary fresh milk was a nice touch, minibar was priced as you'd expect in a 5 star hotel. Nespresso machine but not many pods. One gripe was not enough teabags, only 2 x breakfast tea (and herbal if that's what you like, but we don't). Not an issue, requested more which were speedily delivered by a chap in a kilt. I struggled to get the air on to work on the first night (the windows don't open and as we overlooked the street I think it would have been too noisy anyway), but got the hang of it on the second night. The bathroom was excellent, large walk in shower, super toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. Everything you needed except toothbrush/paste. Breakfast was great, I had the full Scottish (eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding, haggis, tomatoes and mushrooms plus toast), my daughter had smoked salmon and eggs hollandaise. You could also help yourself from the buffet which was really good quality. We didn't have lunch or dinner but did have afternoon tea which was a little more expensive than elsewhere but I think was worth it. All of the staff were friendly and the service was excellent. Location fab, on the Royal Mile less than 5 minutes from the castle and the station. Would definitely stay again if the price was right!
I recently had a wonderful stay at the hotel, starting with a really easy check in . We were greeted by a really friendly staff wherever we went . The room was small, comfortable & clean with a lovely view. We dinned out on the town but breakfast was wonderful, with a great buffet plus the hot menu, we received a lovely service from Christina (who i believed was the manager) but i have to say that also the rest of the staff were friendly and professional . We will certainly be back
"PERFECT LOCATION, TOP NOTCH SERVICE"
We arrived after a long flight from Denver and Detroit (via Newark), tired but very excited. Our group of weary travelers included my 69 and 75 year old parents, myself and my 18 year old son. We were greeted by stylishly kilt clad bellmen and escorted to check-in. While our rooms were not quite yet ready, we were told that every effort would be made to get them ready ASAP, our bags were taken and we were given advice as to where to go for lunch. This hotel could not be any more perfectly situated. It is literally steps away from everything on the Royal Mile. We strolled around a bit, had lunch and returned to find our rooms not quite ready but did not have to wait long. The rooms themselves are inherently hip. If you are looking for old school and are offended by the modern, this might not be the place for you but on a long trip I find that a mix of old and new is refreshing. The rooms are not huge but are wonderfully comfortable and the shower was absolutely amazing. We had one dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was incredible. That night my son was too beat up with jet lag to make it down to dinner with us oldsters and we ordered him a room service pizza which arrived extremely quickly and was not only affordable but quite tasty! The included breakfast every morning was great. Seems fairly typical in Ireland and Scotland to have a breakfast buffet along with an included breakfast entree. Service was awesome. Highly recommend.
