"Great Location ... but could use some TLC"
We stayed here 3 nites. The hotel is perfectly located across a lively and busy Copacabana Beach, with a variety of beach bars in easy walking distance. The hotel itself was good, certainly not excellent. It's a busy hotel but check in was handled efficiently. Swipe key cards posed a continual problem getting into the room and operating the elevator. Room was clean but could use a fix up. There was a piece of wood from the bathroom door frame leaning on the wall that someone forgot to replace, knobs loose, just "stuff" that a handyman should get to. Breakfast room was busy, but the selection was great, from eggs, to sausages, fruit galore and pastries and buns -- plenty to get you going for the day. Their coffee station was lined up continually as they have automatic brewing machines that brew individual cups -- from coffee to cappuccinos (not so great) and a few other choices. All in all, they deliver on breakfast. Lots of doormen ready to help with your luggage on arrival and departure. Grocery and pharmacy around the corner as well as a walkable, almost endless street of shopping nearby--not the greatest shopping but you'll find something. The beach night market for souveniers was easily accessible.
"End of cruise before heading home "
Our room was clean and tidy although the view was of the next buildings and a painted wall. The air conditioning worked well and cooled the room well before we went to bed each night. The breakfast buffet was well stocked with a variety of hot and cold breakfast items. You could fuel up for a full day of sightseeing or hitting the beach. Copacabana beach was across the wide boulevard and offered people watching entertainment. The hotel was busy with tourists, young families and convention attendees. There were grocery stores, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. It was a great place to relax before heading back home to Canada.
Great location near beach, taxi rank, restaurants and shops, lovely helpful staff, some of whom spoke English, fab rooftop pool, very good breakfasts including fresh detox juice and lots of fresh fruit. Room tired and slightly grubby although bathroom had been recently refurbished. Strangely my double bed was made up with a single sheet and cover. Very noisy, with single-glazed windows but aircon was efficient. No tea making facilities. Best laugh was going to the bar for a drink in the mid-afternoon and finding the barman sound asleep on a sofa at the back. I left him in peace!
"Great location but poor rooms"
Rooms in poor state and in need of updating. Most rooms face central court which had noisy extractor fans going on all day and night. Bathrooms grimy and not cleaned properly. Buffet breakfast was chaos and far too busy to be enjoyable. Would have given one star but staff has been friendly and polite hence gave another star. Also the location of the hotel helped. Very centrally located and close to beaches, shops and restaurants.
"crisis continues at Golden Tulip Copacabana"
The room where we stayed didn't receive maintenance for years. the curtains were full of mold, blackout hardly working outside, no painting on Windows, noisy environment, bed linen with holes, chair seating full of holes. malfunction on hotelsafe.Looked like an old 2 star hotel instead of 4 stars. Very poor price/quality. Room 816, standard room, better spend a little more for hotel Miramar just 100 meters away. Only positive note: location.
