"Great holiday for budget conscious"
We booked the all-inclusive package and were extremely happy with the value. The room was spacious enough and comfortable and there was a narrow view of the sea from the balcony. The staff were generally excellent. We arrived late at night so missed the 'induction' but when we were asking questions in the lobby, staff quickly realised this and sat us down and immediately did the induction, giving us hats which we loved! Most of the food is buffet, so expect buffet food, not chef hat meals! Maria's is superb. The downstairs restaurant manager was a bit rude when we tried to enter the restaurant at 6.25am instead of 6.30am because we had a flight to catch. (There is a 24 hour cafe that we should have used.) Also this restaurant is open to the beach, so birds kept flying in, but this is offset by the magnificent view of sparkling blue water and white sand. The pool area is large and clean; the beach bar was very casual with a laid back vibe. I enjoyed the evening markets beside the pool. If you want 5 star service and food and staff fawning over your every need, then don't complain; find somewhere else to stay and pay 5 star price. This resort is great for Australians who prefer a laid back atmosphere. It was a really relaxing 3 day start to our holiday that allowed us to unwind. I would re-book here. Beware Cancun is extremely windy!
"Great Food and Wonderful Staff"
This hotel is lively, it has beautiful grounds and the food is really good - one of the better hotels in Cancun... Please see my comments below: Beach - The waters are gorgeous and beautiful Food - The food was very well done. Breakfast is my favourite part of the day and it was really well done here. Their Buffet has a great selection and the fruit is always ripe and delicious. One of our favourite restaurants to go to was Maria's. Special thanks to Luis who is a waiter there... he takes care of all his guests very well and his service is unmatched! Room - The room was large - however the AC had some issues and in 30 degree weather it matters Amenities - At the time of our trip it was under construction - however non-withstanding the construction, the pools were great and the ambiance was not disturbed Location - This Hotel is in great central location close to shopping malls, and restaurants and Isla Mujeres. Although the Malls and Plazas are overpriced in USD it is nice to be able to have them close by to take a stroll. All in All, it was a great experience
For what we payed for, this made me cry when I entered the lobby, saw our 'upgraded room', (which, was not an upgrade) and ate at the buffet. We had just come from the JW Marriott where we payed a lot less for 100% better view, dining experience, room... Disappointed does not begin to convey the sadness I experienced. We were truly ripped off. I feel so sorry for the hairnet workers the have to put up with this hotel. It definitely made us want to go home. Please, please check out the other resorts unless you want to see peeling paint, mold, food that you have no idea what your eating -- the silver lining, stale real Oreos! WANT MY MONEY BACK and my NIGHT BACK to go somewhere else! Whoever is affiliated with this 'resort' should be highly embarrassed
"Holiday for 8"
Very good hotel, staff were very nice and help you with anything you need, plenty of pools and activities, close to the nightclub strip, a simple bus ride or walking distance. can swim in the beach which was good. plenty of nice restaurants around and inside the hotel. snack bar could use an upgrade though.
"October 1 - 8 2017 Overall review... Honeymoon"
My experience at Gran Caribe Resort was hit and miss... At arrival we were greeted with a nice glass of champagne. Check in was smooth, so My wife and I upgraded to Ocean Suite, cost us extra $100.00/night. At check in my wife and I were told that we were going to be supersized with complementary supersize from Gran Caribe... I wast expecting anything.. but there was nothing... and the room towels were not stocked.. we did not figure this out till we were finished our shower. Room was very nice, and clean... But there was so much construction from early morning to evening... constant hammering, banging, power-tools, and last few nights Chain-saws. After a long day of excursions. With the Renovations limited our selection of restaurants, and paying for all inclusive kinda leaves me short changed of what I expected what i payed for. Lack of selection of restaurants made us look outside of Gran Caribe for delivery Food.... in return took money out of my pocket to spend on my wife on our Honeymoon. Actually as I meet the Delivery Person for our food, I was approached by other guests to get the number of the place I ordered food. I am guessing that they were not satisfied with the food. Now I would like to give credit where credit is due,,, Staff of the Gran Caribe resort is great. Hospitality is next to non, I found this with all the businesses in Cancun. Our housekeeper of Room 2216 October 1-8 2017 did great job,,, excellent job. I wish I remember the waitress at the open bar on the night-shift she had glasses.. She went above and beyond her duties defusing some guested that indulged in too much alcohol... They were being rude to staff and fellow guests including me and my wife. I am not sure if she had training in anger management, but she defused the situation before it became a situation... I believe that they were over served by a nightclub not by the resort they just showed up, and showed up to be rude. Beyond that this young lady with glasses our waitress at the lobby bar treated us great. My whole Family about 12 of us are planning a trip to Cancun this spring, they are all asking about our experience as we just got back home from Gran Caribe.... Really loved the resort, but there are some things we have to take into consideration... as we paid to upgrade and felt like we were in a construction zone... and on our Honeymoon...
