"Nothing grand about this hotel"
I put my trust in my travel agent and was greatly disappointed in this hotel. I’ve since gone back to read reviews of the hotel and comments from management that go back as far as 2014. The hotel is in great need of refurbishing. The carpets are threadbare the walls are scuffed and in need of paint the bathroom ceilings are water stained and the plaster is falling down. I think 3 Years has been plenty of time for management to have made repairs. Breakfast buffet that was included was basic and nothing special. Wait staff just stood around watching no help no service unlike most other hotels we stayed in that brought you your coffee or tea or cleared your dish after you were finished. We also booked a week of tours through the hotel which was another mistake. Apparently English speaking guides are hard to come by in December. I guess my travel agent didn’t think to ask them if the guides spoke English( not sure why she needed to ask as they knew we were American). I was sent a guide who spoke no English at all and he was going to take us on a walking tour for 400 euros. Unfortunately we don’t speak Italian so I had no tours for the week since he couldn’t guarantee a guide who spoke English. The tours had to be paid in cash so I had converted dollars to over 2000 Euros so I was also stuck with my Euros. There was only 1 person who worked in the hotel who spoke some English so if you can’t speak Italian this is not the hotel for you at all. Having traveled from Florence, Siena, to Venice where we were able to communicate and move around cheaply and easily Sicily was a huge disappointment. Concierge could not help with transportation, restaurants suggestions for places to visit . I realize I am a visitor and mi dispiace’ for not knowing more Italian but I have never come across this in a hotel before and I’ve traveled to many different countries.
"Beautiful Old Hotel"
Central to all in Palermo, beautiful interior. Hallway carpets showed wear and tear and elevators old and creaky, but then its been around for nearly 100 years, my Mom stayed here as a CHILD in the early 1950's. It took forever for us to walk to our room, but it was spacious, with a large bathroom, with a tub and separate shower. The bar in the lobby had every kind of drink you would want, and was served with bar snacks. The bar personnel were great. The buffet breakfast was great, lots of choices, including prosecco, and cappucinos. On the day we checked out, they held our bag while went sightseeing and even let us stay in the lobby until our cousin picked us up very late that night. Would stay here again....
Nice hotel - a peice of calm in a very hectic city. Has definitely seen better days but it still has some old world charm. Lovely staff at the desk. Close to everything. Very hard to find as there are no road/ hotel signs in Palermo and the driving is out of this world. The hotel sped the car away to a parking nearby and a wave of relief hit. Fantastic restaurants and cafes close by too.
"What a disappointment..."
I was incredibly surprised by the condition of this hotel - the carpet was, torn, dirty and stained throughout, the ceiling was cracked, paint peeling, the tub was severely stained and in need of replacement. The tv remote had batteries that were completely corroded. There was a sound of running water overhead in our room that never stopped the entire time - the shower had one temp- scalding hot - and the room hvac did not work - it was so stuffy. The next day they moved us to a “better” room - the joke was on us -while we could take a shower- we were unable to sleep due to two things - non-stop mechanical noise and the heat that was unbearable. We opened the window and then dealt with the street noise for the entire night. We did not sleep. How can this be four stars- it was terrible.
"Traditional centrally located hotel"
Traditional decor, good location in terms of theater visits and excellent breakfast are the main positives. If the service at the bar/tearoom I the lobby would be anywhere near appropriate they would make nice additional revenues. But service i the rest of hotel nice and serviable.
