The Grand Hotel Mazzaro Sea Palace is located in Taormina Mare, on the beach of Lido Spisone, 40km from Messina and 80km from Milazzo. The center of Taormina is accessible by cable car, 50m from the hotel.
Excellent hotel with extremely pleasant and attentive staff in ALL areas - even the private beach! I couldn't really fault it, except the bath was very slim (even for me a size 10). Such a lovely place with lots of facilities and a gorgeous breakfast eating area outside looking over the small picturesque bay.
"Our stay on the beach"
The hotel is in a fantastic position on a cove in the mazzoro area. (not far from the cable car to Taoromina). The hotel is well established and provides an exceptional level of service on all fronts. They are there to cater for guest needs at all times. We had dinner there one night as well and was also excellent.
"Perfect position, exceptional service ...eccentric cuisine"
This superb hotel is in a prime position, smack in the middle of its tiny sheltered bay, with direct access to a private sandy beach, where you can sunbathe, go snorkelling or take excursions as you wish. Even in early May, the sea temperature is not as cold as it is on a UK seaside holiday in August. The views from the sea-view room balconies are positively paintable (see photograph) - definitely worth the extra. The staff are quite outstanding. They were, without exception, kind, helpful, cheerful and efficient. The array of pastries, fresh fruit and delicacies in the early morning made breakfast time a delight, served on the spacious outdoor terrace overlooking the bay. I was less keen on the menu for dinner: the chef is clearly very talented and skilful, but there is a menu offering far too much choice, and every single dish listed seemed to consist of contrived, unnecessarily elaborate variations on and deviations from classic Italian/Sicilian cooking. There was no plain Spaghetti alle Vongole, no Scallopine al Marsala, no Saltimbocca alla Romana.... no Maccherroni alla Norma. Instead there were fussy "nouvelle cuisine" compositions, with questionable combinations (e,g, chocolate with a deep-fried seafood appetiser), eccentric and over-confident spicing (pears poached in red wine and reeking powerfully of cloves served with pork fillet), and lots of drizzling! Chef trying too hard. Quite unnecessary. I discussed this all with my waitress. "So... do you not like this style of cooking'" she asked. "No," I said. "Neither do I!" she replied, and cleared my plates, Nonetheless, THIS HOTEL IS BRILLIANT!
We spent one week at this hotel in May 2017 and enjoyed our stay tremendously. Our room was standard but spacious and the sea view was breathtaking. It is a quiet płace, which we appreciated. The hotel staff were very friendly and went out of there way to help. Food was excellent and beatiffully presented (a la carte). There is a very useful hotel shuttle bus which takes guests twice a day to the city o Taormina, but you can albo walk there (the way down is very easy). There is also a scenic całe car , unfortunately it was closed during our stay.
We stayed in Mazarro Sea Palace for a week in September 2016. I had an accident a couple of weeks before going to Sicily and had injured my leg, which unfortunately curtailed my walking, etc. The hotel staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for me. The hotel faces the sea and has stunning views, from the restaurant, bedrooms and terrace area. There is a lovely cove directly below the hotel, with easy access. Breakfast is excellent, plenty of choice. We stayed on a B and B basis, so did not eat dinner in the hotel, but there are a number of extremely good restaurants just a few metres from the hotel. The Sea Palace is situated on the beach area below Taormina, a few hundred metres from the funicular which brings one up to Taormina in a few minutes. There are a few shops and small mini-markets near the hotel. A pianist played on the terrace nightly, so pleasnt to sit outside, looking at the lights and listening to the waves lapping in on the beach...heavenly! We would highly recommend Sea Palace Mazarro, for the friendlines and helpfulness of every single staff member, for the superb breakfasts and the peace and relaxation when sitting out on our beautiful balcony. Go there!
