Stayed for 3 nights, lovely building, friendly staff and good food BUT....room so small that there was no room for even a chair, could only walk in single file round bed. En-suite shower was extremely tiny. Tap over basin splashed everywhere if turned on slightly too much and the tap was very stained. Only provided with two very small bottles of shower gel to last two people for three nights. Very disappointed as we thought a four star hotel would have had better rooms.
"Good place in a perfect location near Hyde Park"
This place is well located for those interested in moving fast in London's downtown area. It is minutes away by tube from Oxford Circus and many other attractions. It is also a good choice for business in case you have meetings in central London. The hotel has its own charm: wooden floors, a cozy theatre-like bar, big, comfortable chairs in the lobby area. Everything is very clean, well-maintained. For a place in a central area in London, it often offers very good rates that you can't find even in some of the worn-out, three-star, chain hotels... The breakfast is generous: a tasty English breakfast for those who want to start the day with a filling meal. But you also have the option of fruits and less heavy dishes. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful: totally commendable behaviour. The only bad part was the size of the room. You see on their site pictures of spacious rooms, but the one I stayed in was literally just the space for a bed and for a slim person to get out of there. Even finding space for my suitcase proved to be problematic unless you were ok with it being in your way. The bathroom was also dinky: I couldn't even find sufficient space for my necessaire... Space is a problem for London, so I wasn't really surprised. That doesn't mean it didn't bother me quite a lot...
"Awful, just awful"
Travelling home from a business trip overseas I was very much looking forward to my stop off for the evening and spending some time in London before my onward journey. Unfortunately I did not get the chance. My office booked and pre-paid for my stay at the Grand Royale Hyde Park hotel. Upon arrival I failed to see how the tatty lobby could be deemed as 4 star, I say lobby as I didn’t get as far as my pre-booked and paid for room! I was asked for payment after handing over my passport and filling out my details, after explaining that it had been paid for I was greeted with a response of “we blocked the payment as it was a booking for one night only”... they didn’t entertain the thought of re-taking payment from my office over the phone and turfed me out on the street with no-where to stay for the evening. I could have paid for my room myself, but out of sheer principle I would not pay for being treated so badly. I requested the copy of my passport to be returned to me and my address details, to which they ripped up in front of me with a very sarcastic “OK sir'” To which I replied “no, it’s very far from OK” and left. We will be checking the company statement and if payment HAS been taken, we will be taking things further. Awful way to treat customers, and please heed this warning, and do not stay at this dump!
The location is the best, the staff is very friendly and attentive and the cleanliness is good. The reason I didn't give a five star rating is because I felt like it wasn't the best value for money, our room was nice but extremely small and there was no mini fridge and barely enough room to move around the bed let alone to put our bags. But even with this specific issue I would still recommend it.
We stayed at the Grand Royale for 8 nights Sept 25- Oct 4, 2017. Our room was very small with just one stool and no additional chairs for sitting. We had been pre-warned so this came as no surprise. The hotel is in a wonderful location - you can walk through Hyde Park to many highlights of the city. The street adjacent to the hotel (Queensway) has two subway lines and really good ethnic restaurants. The full English breakfast in the beautiful dining room kept us going until early evening and the dining room service was excellent. As a matter of fact, all the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We would like to mention Manuela in the dining room, Anifa at the front desk and Ali in the foyer who were particularly helpful. Our only complaint is that during our stay the drawing room and foyer were completely unusable as the floors were being replaced and this made the small bedroom room and lack of seating a problem. This, of course, was just bad luck and timing on our part. We would definitely stay here again for the location and top notch service.
