Lovely grand hotel some lovely design features and beautiful paintings and frames, staff lovely from the moment you check in nothing was to much trouble, our room was clean, warm and a newly replaced bathroom there was plenty of tea, coffee etc and an ice machine on some floors handy to bring to room for drinks. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve had in a hotel everything fresh nothing dried up and of good quality, there’s something for everyone’s taste, really nice, go to this hotel you won’t be disappointed 😊
"Gem of a hotel in a great City"
Stayed here by accident due to our original hotel being overbooked and we got lucky. Great staff, rooms, breakfast and location. Would highly recommend. Will do next time I'm in Chester. Just across the road from the train station with parking if driving. Has a historic theme throughout the floors of different kings on the side of the hotel we were on. Definitely would return.
"Alright for a night..."
The Queen Hotel has put a lot of effort into the decor and look, and it is clearly trying to be quirky and interesting. Sadly, the important things didn't always match up to the look of the place - rather style over substance! On arrival (at about 8pm), two rather bored reception staff tried hard not to notice me, and when the female receptionist did notice me she was rather brusque and not at all welcoming. She got me to sign the form, gave me a key, told me where the lift was and then turned back to her computer and ignored me. The room (The Prince Leopold!) was a good size and looked very clean and pleasant. It was rather cold and I discovered that the secondary glazing did not close properly, so there was a draught and, as the room overlooked the hotel car park, it was not exactly peaceful! The lighting in the room is best described as 'subtle', all low wattage bulbs and coloured shades, so it was not easy to read or work. I slept fairly well, and the bed was comfortable and warm. The fitness suite was basic but served my purpose, although the room information about how to use it was out of date and the man on reception was clearly fed up of telling people that! Breakfast was pretty good - a really nice fruit salad and berry compote with yoghurt followed by a bowl of porridge which was not bad at all. My only complaint would be that the pot of tea I got was not exactly hot or fresh, and as I guzzle tea in the mornings, this was a bit of a disappointment! I have to commend Nathan who was on reception in the morning. He was very friendly and helpful, and when my taxi wrongly arrived an hour early he got it rearranged without any fuss. But having him on his own on reception between 9 and 10 when lots of people were trying to check out meant that quite a queue grew up waiting to settle up and leave, which meant hanging about. Although I was in no hurry, other people were clearly getting antsy about getting away! All in all, this was fine for a night for work and was beautifully convenient for the station, but I would not make it my number 1 choice if I were travelling on my own 'dime'!
"Good value, convenient and friendly"
Conveniently placed next to the railway station and a luxurious feel inside and out the hotel itself. Breakfast buffet was excellent and they also kept it open for us when we were running late one morning. All staff were very friendly and helpful too. Very easy bus journey to Chester Zoo from outside the station. There even is a fitness suite, despite it being small it has cardio equipment including a rowing machine.
Stayed here for just one night. My friend and I were on a shopping trip treat and catch up. The queen was perfect as it was directly opposite the rail station so no carrying bags around. We arrived before check in time but was checked in and bags left. When we came back the bags had been taken to our room so check in and getting to our room was a very smooth process. We were very pleased with our room, the facilities, comfort and the decor. The beds were very comfortable which was a relief after shopping all day. Breakfast was very good and anything you want for breakfast appeared to be on offer, All staff in the hotel that we came into contact with were very pleasant and helpful. Our bags on checkout were kept until we collected them later in the day. I would definitely stay here again
