"Wonderful example of a Hilton"
It was a quick stop-over for me and this hotel fit the bill on face-value. I was in for a very nice surprise when i arrived. The sheer welcome into the hotel is fantastic, a grand lobby, wonderful atmosphere. Check-in as always was no problem, efficient, professional. As a gold member i was upgraded to a room twice above what i had booked, which was greatly appreciated - thank you Front Office team! The room was very nice, spotless and full of the right amenities, no complaints there. There were 2 restaurants, a more formal option which i believe was mainly seafood and a more informal bar area. I opted for the bar area as it was quite nice and not so formal. The food was overall satisfactory. I had ordered a risotto which was worthy of being sent back - terribly cooked and not seasoned at all, big disappointment. Breakfast was fantastic however, usual options at a 5* Hilton plus some nice extras. As there were 2 of us i asked for a larger table for 4, but the waiter insisted i took a small table for 2 as the hotel was busy. Throughout the 45 mins i ate my breakfast, not a single other person turned up - not a problem, just would have been nice if an educated decision was made... Overall a great stay, will definitely come again when i am back in this neck of the woods.
Great location only one block away from the shopping district. Large rooms for the United Kingdom. Air conditioning is par for Europe. The restaurant is really good, I always order the salmon and it's served with a balsamic glaze design on the plate. The Staff is very accommodating in every way. It is close to a lot of good restaurants.
"Not 5 star sleep"
I spend 2 nights at this Hilton. Hotel was modern, breakfast and dinner were ok, there is a nice gift shop with a wonderful lady who worked there. Location was good to walk to restaurants and shopping. Bed was hard and small and very uncomfortable. No air circulation in the room. I did not expect AC since I was told that is unhear of in Scotland but I expected a room with some circulation. It made sleep unattainable. I hate waking up and needing to take an immediate shower. Hilton needs to rethink it standards for rooms with this Hotel.
"Worst sleep ever in a hotel! "
The staff were mostly very friendly and helpful. Check in was fast and simple. The lobby and bar area are nice and modern. Breakfast was great. Unfortunately the room let the hotel down. It's old and in need of refurbishment. The bed uncomfortable. Air con didn't work and Windows didn't open. It was like trying to sleep in a sauna. Sleep in the most important so the Hilton failed.
Love this hotel & visit often for weekend break - service usually first class but one wee niggle creeping in. Arrived lunchtime to be told room not ready - perfectly acceptable - concierge took & stored our bags. We were asked to provide a mobile number and told that we would be contacted by text when room was available. We booked Executive room & were given Exec. lounge key to have coffee. Sat there for 30 mins - no text - so left for town. We left both mobile numbers - no text all day - when we got back at 4.45pm & mention this promise of text which didnt arrive to young man checking us in - I got a VERY vague 'Oh' - not a sorry - just 'Oh'. We absolutely LOVE Hilton - we are Hilton Honours members & stay at Hilton whenever we can....but it would have been courteous for someone to say 'Sorry - I'll just check what happened' or 'Sorry - we'll make sure your newspaper you've ordered is now complimentary'. Just makes you feel quite disregarded to be honest. This is SUCH a great hotel - dont let the small things slip - it's the small things the customer loves. Otherwise our stay was great & the bar meal we ordered in Executive Lounge was fantastic!
