The Hilton was everything I needed for a place to stay. Relatively easy to book (minus the sales pitch for a time-share if you joined the honors program). Accessible to Grand Central Station and the subway system to the whole city!
"Not A Hilton by Any Stretch of the Imagination"
Not sure what Hilton is thinking putting their name on this property, rooms are small and damp, the dining possibilities is like a train station, and feels/looks like a waiting area at a train station. The breakfast is excellent but at 35$ over the top. I called ahead from Hungary 4 time to confirm a room according to our needs with two babies. Spoke with the GM. Checked in and the AMAZING reception manager Andrea stated that the GM booked this room specifically himself for us...but the room had one bed, no crib and no extra bed or sleeper, or even room for anything like a crib. Andrea set us up, she is the gem in the hotel, the rest of the reception team seemed rushed and over challenged the entire time I was there, Andrea was truly magical for us, she made all the difference. The doorman was great, I believe he was Italian, we never needed his assistance but he was always there with a good laugh and a smile, the way it should be, sorry I do not have his name. All in all I will never be back to this hotel, horrible rooms, low water pressure, no lobby to speak of to wait (the chairs they did have were full of people sleeping and on laptops. The one odd thing was it seemed the entire NYPD police force and every taxi driver in the city comes in to use the toilets! Strangest thing I ever saw where 5 taxis are out front and two police cruisers, all in the bathroom. It is not a "bad" hotel but it is NOT A 3 or 4 star hotel, so dont expect it to be.
Nice clean rooms at a fair price. The breakfast was complimentary but if it weren't we never would have eaten it for the price. The room was quiet and the ac ran super cool. It was a good night of sleep.
"Excellent location, but needs refreshing"
On the plus side, the location is great, the room was quiet, and service was friendly and helpful. But the interior gives a worn and dated appearance, needs refurbishing, especially the bathroom - not 4 star.
"Good location and adequate accomodation in NY city"
Good location walking distance to Grand central station. Take the NY airporter to Grand central from JFK or LaGuardia airports. NY is ridiculously expensive but the room rate is reasonable priced compared to others in the area, especially if you become a Hilton Honours member. Breakfast buffet is too expensive and the downstairs NY style market is lacking in a good hot meal at night. Rooms are adequate.
