Perfect hotel for a family vacation to visit Montreal!Comment of S. Gustavo , United States the 2016-08-29
"Great hotel on a budget!"
We found this hotel with our points. It was very quaint and had everything we needed! It was clean and very close to Notre Dame and Rue St. Paul. The staff were very nice and even though the parking had narrow turns there were many large spaces to accommodate our Toyota Sienna minivan. There were large trucks down there as well (F150 and F250). But if it were packed and the larger spaces taken then it would be an issue. I ordered room svc for my daughter and let them know she had a peanut and shellfish allergy. They were sure to reassure me there was no cross contamination and they also called 20 mins after delivery to ask how everything was. My kids loved the coy pond downstairs and it was quite dark and quiet for our visit. The rooms were clean. The only odd thing was that our room was on a slant on the 3rd floor. It felt like we were walking downhill when we would walk into the bathroom. I was concerned about the structure.
"Unusual but great"
This is part of the IHG chain, but unusual in that its restaurant reflects the area in which it is situated. It is in China town. Its public spaces have a Chinese theme with pagodas, ponds and Koi Carp. The breakfast buffet is good but the evening Chinese menu is excellent. There are a range of set menus as well as a la carte. We tried and enjoyed both. The service and knowledgeable attention given by the staff was also excellent would highly recommend to tourist visitors to Montreal. The room was also very good with coffeemaker etc. We were surprised how quiet it was given the proximity to a major road.
Hotel is located next to the old town so if you want to visit all the restaurants and bars in the old town this is the place to be at. It takes around 5-10 minutes to walk to the Notre Dame cathedral and then you are in the old town. Hotel follows a chinese theme as well as the big pond inside which looks nice. Check-in was a breeze. The room I had was big, two double beds although one was only used. Bathroom was ok although I do not prefer to shower in the tub. Water pressure was ok as well as the water temp (which was at times a little too hot). In the bathroom there was also a coffee maker which I found odd, would have placed it in the room. AC was very loud and would go out with a bang which made sleeping a little hard with the AC on. Ordered room service the first evening and it was super fast (was told 15-20 minutes - felt like 10). The food in the restaurant is mostly chinese which can become a little much if you eat only in the hotel restaurant. Bar serves finger-food. The sortiment at the bar seems kind of limited. There was a disturbance one night where one of the guests called me and yelled at me in the middle of the night. I hang up and heard a door in the corridor followed by a knock on the door which I did not answer. Got later to go to the bathroom only to find a threatening note pushed underneath the door. I called reception that sent up security that found a person roaming outside my room. Security negotiated the situation and the person went back to his room. Talked to security and handed him the note but couldn't sleep anymore that night. In the morning I talked to reception and left my contact details with them. They offered to move me to another room but I declined. Later in the day the manager called me and told me the person had been asked to leave the hotel. The hotel, all in all, is ok, a little run down but ok considering the location. I would not spend more than a weekend or one week maximum (I was there for three weeks) visiting Montreal and the old town.
"Captures the Spirit of the China Town."
The hotel is right at the heart of the china town. The hotel decor and the lobby are modeled to capture the spirit of china town. You can just step out of the hotel and have one of the best places to eat dumpling. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Church of Notre Dame, and the old city.
"Great location but needs an update"
My husband was attending a conference & I travelled with him. We took a cab from the airport for the standard 40 dollar charge. On arrival we found it strange the reception desk was on the second floor .The entrance & exit of this hotel is very unusual & after 10p.m. you need a room key to enter the building ' then you take an elevator to the lobby or to your room. We told them we had rewards club card & requested a room with a view on higher floor but were given a standard room on the third floor & was assured it was a quiet room with a comfortable bed. The hallway carpets were filthy & the bathroom in our room smelled of urine. The carpet in our room also needed a cleaning. The bed was clean & comfortable. The tub in the bathroom drained very slowly. It was difficult to regulate room temperature. The best thing about this hotel is the location. You are in walking distance of old Montreal & many of the main attractions & restaurants are close by. The staff were pleasant & helpful but rooms very dated & all carpets need replacing. It could be a nice hotel with an overhaul ' much needed update.
