The Avenida Sofia Hotel & Spa is located just 50 meters from the beach in the center of the town of Sitges. With the train station is only 100 meters away, the hotel a convenient place for guests traveling on business or for pleasure.
"Modern plush Hotel"
Very modern chique hotel which has just opened in last few years. Very nice lobby and the halls and corridors are very plush with dark wood and atmospheric lighting. The actual rooms although not massive are very nice with open plan to bathroom with cubicles for shower and wc. The Monsoon type shower was probably the best weve ever had in a hotel. You really didn’t want to leave! All the mod cons with interactive TV etc. There are no balconies which would have been an annoyance for us if wed been staying more than a couple of nights but with the platinum awards the hotel has for energy compliance and environment its not really surprising. The rooftop pool wasn’t open but it was April! There is a trendy bar on the for as well which is busy during the weekends. We did both find the bed a bit too hard and pillows were non descript but that’s a personal opinion. We did have a meal in the bar at night once but it wasn’t great. Medium rare burger came totally pink in middle and cold and the tacos I had, although OK wasn’t really very flavoursome. We did not have to pay for the meal though after complaining about it. All in all very nice hotel and staff very helpful.
"Very accommodating... "
Nice space close to the action without the noise. Two blocks from Mediterranean. High end finishes and hardware make this a very nice place to stay. Staff was superb and ready to help... Our room had a bright green emergency light facing the bed which stared at us during the night...no way to turn it off. But after relating our concern of lack of sleep, management had it taped opaque while we were out. Very nice! Although the rooftop bar was closed during our stay, the hotel was very nice and we would stay again.
"BEWARE not particularly well thought through hotel or customer centric"
Whilst this hotel is well located, and looks nice, there are things that just do not work that the staff seem incapable of fixing, or even wanting to fix! For example we stayed for four nights just before Easter and complained about the hot breakfast food being cold every morning, were they bothered' not until the last day when we had pointed out it was a health risk. You would think that if people did not eat the 'hot' food, and presumably it was thrown away each day people would ask why' - We did not see anyone enjoy theirs - so DO NOT BOOK IT IN ADVANCE, try first as they would not let us cancel it ..... the Calipolis hotel next door has excellent HOT breakfasts, and staff listen when you complain! Rooms are quiet - BUT you have to get to them ..... there was only one lift working for the whole hotel for the full four days we were there, why' TV only has BBC World Service not BBC1, BBC2, ITV or Channel 4, whereas there are lots of stations for other nationalities. The Sky Bar - has fantastic views but we had to wait 30 minutes to be served, could not get the bill for love nor money, and the people next to us gave up on two gin and tonics that they had ordered at the same time as us as they just never came, even though 15 minutes after ordering them, the waitress came and confirmed their order! Despite winning a platinum environmental building award - we were told to run the water for at least 10 minutes so it got hot ..... is water not an environmental issue in Spain' ...... oh and in the shower there is absolutely nowhere to put your soap apart from the floor! To use the safe you need to crawl around on the floor ......... you also need a degree to work the air conditioning unit, automated lights come on at night at floor level if you accidentally throw your sheets around; the chair for clothes is by the exit door, not conveniently located ............. and to be honest the attitude of some of the male staff on reception was not friendly and made us feel we, the paying customers, were an inconvenience. The woman on reception tried very hard however to be friendly and professional - she should be promoted! For location book this hotel, and if you are prepared to try and see if things have improved ...... but for breakfasts there are lots of additional eateries around - and even the other hotel next door, which is noisy at night, but at least does good hot breakfasts!
In the overall staff is not Customers oriented. Some of them are fine, some others are incompetent: none is great. Hotel set up has been made for impressing but nothing really works. Lifts do not work properly creating queues on the floors, breakfast is just a mess with People waiting before seating: food is fine whilst variety is pretty average. House-keeping is below international standards, definitely; corridor on the first floor is smelly as our room does not have a pleasant smell. Two towels only for person (1 Big, 1 Small) in the bath, room refreshments is not adequate at all, no baggage service available at arrival. Room views are poor: as an example we have a "lovely" view on the internal courtyard facing the pool of another hotel: not what you need once you are in vacation. Anyway, in the overall, the most irritating factor is made by the poor customers service which I found pretty arrogant. I do not recommend this place
We stayed in a Superior Room over the Carnaval weekend and had a great time. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the beach, whilst separated from the party streets to escape the madness! The staff at the Avenida Sofia hotel were all very polite and helpful. Our room was large, modern and clean. The only thing lacking was an iron and ironing board in the room but we ordered one at reception. I used all of the facilities - the gym is modern and well equipped, the spa is outstanding and the roof top bar is the perfect place to unwind in the evening. Previously I stayed in the Dolce Sitges when visiting the town, but in future I will definitely stay in the Avenida Sofia due to its location and high standards. I booked via Very Chic and didn't realise that the upgrade to a Deluxe Room was discretionary (one of the reasons I booked this hotel was because I wanted a room with a bath). The Superior Rooms only have showers so next time I stay, I'll book directly and choose a Deluxe Room.
