""Been here, done that" BUT, loved doing it again. Also, read about MEDICAL INFO!"
We were here last year but this year took along our daughter and granddaughter. Not to be repetitious, you can read my review from last year. All was as good as before but even better with our two girls along with us. Not a bad thing to say about this place! The food, service, accommodations, beds, pools, entertainment were all excellent. Check in and check out was fast and easy. The water in the pools was so clean that you could see to the other side of the pool under water with goggles on. The temperature of the water in the pools and the sea was, practically speaking, the same. You could spend the whole day in the water (and I did spend long times in them) and not feel at all cold. Our granddaughter loved the on-site "Dolphinaris," where she got to spend almost an hour in a pool with dolphins and different activities. I read comments about the photos taken by the pros being expensive. Yes, they were. A package of three, on a CD, was priced at $75 U.S. But, there was no pressure whatsoever to buy any at all. I took a bunch of her because I had a good camera with a very strong (25X) zoom lens and they came out pretty well. But, they were not as good good as those taken by the pros. Yes, she did get a package. That was part of our treat to the girls, along with the all-expense paid vacation. Our daughter got her master's degree and the g-daughter finished second year of nursing at St.Xavier University. Could not think of a nicer way to show how proud we are of them then by this trip. I would also like to mention something that I have not seen other travelers mention on this site. I had a medical problem late one evening and this is an event that no one ever wants on a vacation, especially when it happens in a different country. Well, when I called the resort operator and explained that I needed a doctor, he connected me to a Dr. Gabriela Ponce. She spoke English very well and had excellent comprehension of all I told her; no problem whatsoever. She listened attentively, gave me useful advice, reassured me that, if I would need to go to the hospital, I should stop by her with my insurance cards and she would prepare all the necessary papers that would be required for admittance and then arrange for transportation. As fate would have it, her good advice allowed me to get over my problem without needing to go to a hospital. I called her a few times and she called me back 3 or 4 times to check on my condition. A few hours later I was much improved (no, it was not Montezuma's Revenge that was my problem) and the next morning I got on one of the perpetually-running buses (spic and span tour-type buses) to her office which was about 5 minutes from our building and right on Barcelo's property, to thank her for her help. I hope that management is well aware of the excellent location of her office and her dedication to helping the vacationers at the resort. I think that they should mention this in their description of their property because many people sometime wonder what they would do it they have a health property. My congratulations to you, Dr. Ponce, for being so helpful that the incident was resolved so well that it did not inconvenience me at all and became an almost no-event. As to management, I hope that you forward this review to her. Many people complain for the least important and foolish things, but very few take a little time to give credit to someone who has been good to them. Finally, your resort is an excellent place to spend vacation and the all-inclusive is really such a nice feature. Not having to take cabs or buses to the restaurants gives one a lot more time for leisure enjoyment of the facilities and partake of the good food that is offered right here.
"Barcelo Best Trip"
This was a great trip. Room spacious, plenty of closet space, great bathroom. AC kept the temp in the room comfortable. Good variety at buffet with very friendly and attentive staff. Beach was great due to the large amount of fish, turtles and occasional baby sting rays to see. Lots of chairs on the beach, no shortage. Nice breakwater to keep waves on the beach very small. Many activities to participate in. Would definitely return.
"Very pleasant trip"
One of the best vacations we've been to in a long time; the food was amazing, the rooms and the hotel were very clean and spacious, the pools and the ocean were absolutely beautiful, and the night entertainment was highly enjoyable! We loved this resort and hotel so much, that we're already planning our next visit!
"Great stay at Barcelo Maya Palace"
We had a great time at this beautiful resort which has an amazing beachfront location. The aquatic sports including sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding were awesome. The restaurants were all excellentband the entire property is very clean and well-kept. The rooms are deluxe and spacious
"16th Annual Stay at the Barcelo Maya"
This was our 16th visit, so it should come as no surprise that we really like this property (especially the Palace). The beach is amazing as are the pools, and the grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the dining is good (but not excellent). Our only complaint is that - perhaps as a byproduct of growth over the years - the resort has lost some of its welcoming, friendly, vibe that used to set it apart from other places we've stayed and feels more corporate than personal now. The loss of Ulises Perez as permanent bartender at the Palace's Adult Pool really diminished our enjoyment of our trip as the atmosphere there was fantastic with him, not so much now. We likely will visit again, but may take a few years off and visit some other properties in the area.
