"Great, historic, iconic hotel and resort, a bit old"
This is undoubtedly the most iconic and most photographed hotel in San Diego area, at least on Coronado Island. It's just beautiful! Great as a getaway place or honeymoon resort, as it sits right on the pretty Coronado beach. Here are the goods and bads: Goods: 1) Great location that can't get any better than this; 2) Beautiful architecture and landscaping; 3) Friendly and professional staff; 4) Great restaurants, with lots of different choices; 5) Great sense of history, with so many celebrities who stayed here. Bads: 1) Facility is a little old, considering it was built in 1888; 2) Parking is very expensive; 3) Restaurants are all first-rate, but prices are also first-rate. Other than the above, all of which are quite understandable, this hotel will give you a great experience!
"A fews days on the beach and the maid"
My husband and I just got back for a quick anniversary trip. When we arrived, they immediately upgraded our room, the room was nice, but the our balcony was over looking a red roof and a conference party in the garden. We figured it couldn't hurt to ask for a beach view, for this is the reason why I wanted to stay at the hotel in the 1st place. Colby ( at the front desk) was VERY kind and got us a room 1st floor, pretty much a walk out to the beach. It was just perfect ! The room was uggg, lets say about a 90.00 a night type room. But we didn't care, we just wanted to be lazy on the beach and on our porch. There was dog poop on the porch, which was odd. But wahtever, it happens right' My husband and I are not big on maids cleaning our rooms, so we always leave the do not disburd on the door. 1st night about an hour or 2.. I was just about to change, when someone walked in... she was very sorry, and said she would bring something down for the inconvenience. (that would have been fun, if that happened) 2nd day.. I was just about to take the coldest shower of my life ( no hot water ) when the maid walk in.. uhhmmm '' didn't we leave the sign on the door' yes..yes we did. didn't matter. she walked in, apoligized, pressed some numbers on the hotel phone, dropped off towels and left. 3rd morning... we go to leave for breakfast, and our do not disturb sign was gone..uhh huh' weird... I go down the hall and ask the maid if I could get another one, she said she didn't have one, so I tell her Don't clean our room, she said oh oh okey.. I won't, I said, you remember what room Im in 4116' yes yes she says, of course, right around the corner. okey were good and we are off to breakfast. after breakfast.. guess who was in our room cleaning it ' YUP there she was. My husband was about to loose it ( he left his work stuff and wallet out) I ask her why, she says it's her boss, scrambling around for the sheets, punches some numbers on the phone again, while she is running out the door, I noticed a clip board on the table, I say.. hey hey don't forget this.. while I picked it up to hand it to her, the pages fall over slightly, guess what's under the paperwork.. my "Do not disturb sign". all in all, we did enjoy ourselves. The hotel in general is quit pricy, but I guess, it kinda has too be, for the location and the keep up for that huge hotel.. Give it a go, if you have the money :)
"Spectacular, grand, old hotel!!"
This is the second time that I have spent approximately one week at this hotel. Suffice it to say that it is a historic landmark and offers fantastic architectural details both inside and out. Even if one is not staying at the hotel, I suggest that you walk through its grounds and lobby and take advantage of its shops and restaurants. With that said, bring plenty of cash as nothing at this hotel is inexpensive. With respect to the hotel itself, some rooms are in the original building and are quaint but relatively newly renovated. Other rooms are located in much more modern, high-rise towers. I have stayed in both and find that each offers advantages. However, to get a true taste of the historic landmark, I suggest staying in the main building. The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious! A fantastic added advantage is the beach which lies adjacent to the hotel along with the hotel swimming pools. Expensive but grand!
If you have dreamed of coming to the Del Coronado like me stop dreaming and go!! it's amazing every bit of it...the staff is so nice, the hotel and beach are breath taking, the rooms are beautiful, clean with comfortable beds, can't wait to go back some day soon I hope.
"Historic, Beach Access, and a Great Resort....but truly worth so much money''"
When you walk into the main lobby of the Hotel del Coronado, you can't help but pause for a moment and realize how gorgeous and old this property is....especially the main elevator which still requires an elevator operator to work...that was pretty cool. You're walking into a piece of history so understand there's things at high-end hotels that this place won't have (e.g. bathroom vents) or how much sound you hear through the walls. The room we stayed in was a King bed suite, which would have cost us about $1K a night. We stayed on points and didn't pay anywhere near that....however, if we had splurged to stay here, I can honestly say we would've been disappointed at what you get from the room for the cost. Something that can't really be beaten is the access to the beach and also the surrounding shops and restaurants just outside of the hotel. If you don't want to eat within the grounds, just take a stroll outside the hotel and you'll find a lot more options. If you want to go to the beach, it's 5 mins from your room. The location was the primary reason we stayed here. Overall, it was a really good stay at the hotel. It was our 22 month old son's first trip ever and the access to the beach with the rocks and the ocean so close made it even more perfect. We enjoyed our stay, and would probably stay again....but only on points, we're not dishing the money out for this place
