"Such a disappointing hotel experience in a beautiful city"
Lobby looks nice but once you step into the room you got a shock of a very old and non modern rooms. Windows aren’t isolating from the noice outside. I wouldnt stay there again. However, as a visitor in Fortaleza I would recommend the second floor Asian restaurant - fantastic.
"Good Hotel opposite the sandy Beach"
It's my first time in Fortaleza on business and this hotel was recommended to me by locals as the best choice in the area. Although the hotel seems to rate itself as 5 star, I would say it's more like a 3.5 to 4 star by more international standards of accommodation. Don't misunderstand me, it has all the facilities expected of a 5 star hotel but the rooms, beds, linen, pillows, bathrooms etc are closer to a 3 to 4 star standard. It's comfortable and clean. Service is spot on - rooms are cleaned and tidied every morning, so if you get back to your room early in the day it's ready. A great point in this hotel's favour is it Breakfast. It is outstanding in its range and quality with the best buffet selection I've seen outside of Colombia's best hotels. Local fruits are excellent and plentiful. I suspect guests of every nationality will be satisfied with what is on offer. The breakfast offering is indeed 5 star. There is an Asian Restaurant on site but the very excellent Coco Bambu Restaurant is only 2 mins walk from the hotel and is an great alternative - see my review 😊 if you're interested.
"Customer service excellence"
My Brazilian wife and myself (Australian) have been visiting Fortaleza her home town regularly for 30 years and this time we tried The Grans Marquise for 9 nights.. I was a Flight Service Director for an international airline (37 years) and feel eminently qualified to give a review on customer service and hotels. Once inside a hotel chain you could be in any city and it is the staff that reflect the local culture. 4 staff were exceptional and made our stay. They were Patricio, Robeiro, Fabio and Lucio and because of them we will always choose The Grans Marquise. Hope this compliment is passed on to them as they now feel like family and look forward to our stay next September.
"The sum is bigger than the parts"
It is a bit hard to evaluate the Gran Marquise as it compares to other hotels. It is clearly the best hotel in Fortaleza, being selected by FIFA to host their own delegation when the city was organizing World Cup games in 2014 (if anyone knows how FIFA operates, s/he will remember that for their delegates only the best will work, given the "modest" fees they extract from the countries hosting World Cups). Having said that, if you have been to a JW Marriott, a Ritz-Carlton, a Taj, a Kempinski, a SO Sofitel, or a Royal Meridien, you will notice some of the details that separate truly luxurious hotels from the Gran Marquise. Still, this is a hotel where the whole experience is bigger than the sum of its parts. The atrium is beautiful, with a very modern design based on local granite. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. We arrived a bit earlier for check in but they prioritized the cleaning of our room to get us in as quickly as possible. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. The Grand Marquise Spa by L'Occitane is excellent. Very well organized with knowledgeable staff. We got a couple's massage that was truly relaxing and the only complaint is that it could not go any longer... The gym is well-equipped, and the saunas and Jacuzzi helped us to feel pampered. It is hard to describe how good the feijoada (traditional Brazilian dish with black beans and pork) buffet on Saturdays is. No wonder it has won the award for best feijoada in Fortaleza for eight years in a row. The Sunday buffet with traditional food from the Northeast is also very good but it suffers a bit in comparison to the feijoada buffet. The Asian restaurant is also very good but if you have been to Asia you should not expect the same level of food here. I would stick with the sushi, which is ultra fresh (no surprise, knowing that the local fish market is just two blocks away). Finally, the location is great, in one of the most noble addresses in Fortaleza, with beautiful views of the beach and the port. Many locals exercise in front of the hotel, with the Beira Mar area perfect for jogging or simply walking around. Certainly a place to be recommended for a great stay in Fortaleza.
"Best in Fortaleza"
Definitely the best deluxe hotel in Fortaleza. Very elegant decor, courteous staff. Rooms are spacious. Breakfast deserves at least half an hour in your day, it's delicious. Extra touches like turndown service give it competitive edge.
