"Very tired and dated decor"
Though the room was clean it was very tired; worn carpets, dated decor, shabby furniture. Considering the room charge I felt is represented bad value for money. The staff were very good but I won't stay at this hotel again.
Very friendly hotel in a superb location, the reception staff were welcoming, the room was spotless and although there is some building work going on at the back of the hotel it did not disturb us. As we returned from our evening out we were ready for bed until we entered the lobby and felt compelled to order drinks as we heard the amazing pianist in the bar- Mauro Montuschi. He created an intimate, engaging party atmosphere which made us wish we had returned earlier in the evening to make the most of his charming, modern set. Too often hotels opt for soulless background music, this was a genuinely wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
"We won't be staying here again."
Our first room was freezing cold, all the "heating" did was blast out more cold air. We asked for an engineer twice, but no-one came. So, we went down to reception and requested a move to a different room, which we were given by the surly man on the desk. The new room wasn't very warm either, but it wasn't freezing, so we stuck with it and turned the "heating" on. A lukewarm flow of air ensued, taking over to 2 hours to elevate the temperature from 17.5 to 18.5. I had set the required temperature to 21. The shower head was useless. The water pressure was way too powerful for the wimpy shower head, with the result that the water sprayed everywhere and the bath quickly filled up with water. The water in the sink took forever to empty. We used the bar a couple of times, that was also cold. Is there a problem with the heating' The rooms and the hotel itself need a makeover, everything is old and tired. With the exception of one guy who stood outside the lift doors, the staff didn't seems to be bothered about us as guests. We’ve stayed here a number of times over the years and the decline in standards has been noticeable, now terminal. Needless to say, we won’t be back. Such a shame, the location is great, but go somewhere else.
"Afternoon Tea with the Girls"
We went for afternoon tea on a Groupon deal and decided it would be nice to go nearer to Christmas, hoping the hotel would be festive. We were very disappointed that the hotel wasn't very festive at all, clearly cost cutting. They had a very good selection of teas and the scones were lovely and warm. Overall it was a good deal as it was through Groupon. It was the birthday of one of the ladies in the group and they did a little special cake for her , which was a lovely touch.
"New year spoilt"
We go to London every New Year, this year we thought we would have a real treat and book a more expensive hotel in a lovely area. The TV connection was appalling so we could not enjoy any TV. The Wi-Fi connection was equally as bad. We had two T bags in our room and this was not replenished, the housekeeping came at 4.20pm.
