I have mixed feelings about this hotel. On one hand I think the service and staff are excellent and also the food is very good and is obviously a well run hotel and I do like the old style lobby. However it really needs some heavy investment in the carpets and rooms and really the whole hotel if it wants to bring itself into competition with the big named hotels. Also I don’t like the location now having seen where other hotels are in nicer districts. Don’t get me wrong it is central but right on the main road and surrounded by not a very nice district. If you get it cheap then I can understand people liking the value for money but I’m into the more modern hotels with newer furnishings.
Hotel is in a great location of Santiago with nearby metro station making the city's main locations / attractions easily accessible. The hotel staff are very professional and always willing to help. And the breakfast bar has a good range of choice.
"Great location in the city"
Firstly, lets be very clear, this not a 5* hotel by modern standards. It does have a great location for tourists and our Chilie tour group stayed there. It is across the road from the central shopping area and a few blocks from the goverment buildings. Rooms are typical of the late 1970's or early 80's when this probably built. Rooms have not been fully refurbished for some time, if ever. They are comfortable, although those on the front may get extra traffic noise, as I did. The windows are old and not that soundproof at the openings. Tea and coffee are charged for at $3 a cup. There is no milk. The machine looks like it might take Nexpresso pods. For UK visitors the only English channel I found was the truly aweful BBC World. In the area of the hotel there are no other reasonable restaurants. The Italian next door survives by providing tourist fodder to hotel guests. Looks terrible and reviews suggest it is. The hotel restaurant Bristol is usually quiet so no need to book, but do check. The food is reasonable, if a bit more expensive than a local restaurant might be, but overall a good dining experance. Chose items with care though. The electronic menus are a frustrating gimmick, but photos are provided. The bar area is ok and does snacks. Check currencies as its a mix of US$ and pesos. Check in/ out can be slow, two people only at the small desk, 5 watching and doing nothing.
We stayed here in October en route to joining a cruise ship. From the minute we checked in we well looked after. We enquired if they had a needle and cotton and within minutes a sewing set was delivered. Before dinner (which was excellent) we had drinks in the bar. The bar man made a drink with Tra-Kal and tonic water and he explained the origin and meaning of the word. Our room was huge with the most comfortable beds and the bathroom was well stocked. Whoever does staff training has done their job well, every member of staff we met were absolutely charming.
"A little piece of style"
We stayed at this hotel on three occasions during a tour of Chile. The hotel was a very nice with friendly and attentive staff, although quite pricey. The rooms are very nice, comfortable and clean, you were supplied with a small bottle of water in the rooms each day. Breakfast was excellent and out of all the hotels we stayed at during our tour of which there was five, this was the best, a great choice of food and included champagne/prosecco if you so desired. as for location you really could not ask for better directly opposite the main shopping precinct and restaurant area.
