"A great hotel!"
No hotel, in my experience so far, is perfect, but the Bonanza Palace comes very close. The staff, from the Reception to the pools, were welcoming, attentive and friendly - an excellent plus point for any holiday. Our room was a “tandem” design. The entry door opened onto a tiled area, which contained a large hanging space with copious shelving, separate toilet and shower cubicles, a mini-bar with drawers above - one containing a very good hair-dryer. There is a digitally-locked safe which is activated for a small additional charge. A modern hand basin (with a very effective push-in, push-out plug) and a large mirror which did not fog - with a pullout, illuminated, magnifying shaving mirror – completed the facilities. Water pressure was great and hot water seemingly never-ending. This area, as for the whole room, had excellent lighting, including the hanging space. A large sliding door ensured that the bathroom was totally private when in use. The main room itself had floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors onto the balcony, with really effective black-out curtaining. The East-facing balcony had a small table and two chairs, plus an extending hanging rail set for drying towels and swimwear. We chose a twin-bedded room, which had two three-foot divans with high-quality interior-sprung mattresses. Sleeping was not a problem! All lights (except the hanging space and shaving mirror) could be controlled from the bed. A bedside unit each side contained a deep drawer and a double power outlet above. A further power outlet alongside the single desk unit ensured our mobiles and laptops were easily charged when necessary. The hotel Wi-Fi was strong enough to support film-streaming programs. An LCD TV was mounted on the wall opposite the beds, in a slim unit that also contained three useful drawers. A small table and two chairs completed the room furniture. Housekeeping was excellent and provided each day, with no fuss and great results. Breakfast and dinner were taken, buffet-style, in the large seventh-floor restaurant, one floor below the street-level reception lobby. The variety and quality of the food were both excellent, even including a large selection of sushi once a week, which I haven’t seen before in any other hotel buffet. Hot and cold meats, fish, duck, chicken, together with local specialties, made for a difficult choice - the most stress we had during the holiday was deciding what to eat. Drinks are served and the whole seaward side of the restaurant is floor-to-ceiling glass, for an excellent view towards the Palma coast. The dessert selection is also impressive and varied, including three varieties of chocolate fountains. Try the caramel ice cream - it’s superb! There is a third-floor spa with its own pool and a sea-level gymnasium. The Lobby Bar has a resident pianist and the pool-level open-air lounge has entertainment every night, mostly singers but including an exceptional flamenco group on Thursdays. A separate, intimate, adults-only restaurant is available to book (at no extra charge to those staying half board) for additional choice and variety. There are three lifts, two from pool level to floor nine, one from pool level to floor eight. At busy times there can be a little delay, but certainly nothing annoying. There are two outdoor fresh-water swimming pools, one family pool one metre to three metres deep, the other adults-only pool is a constant two metres deep. Loungers are in plentiful supply and there are two canopied areas around the family pool. Parasols are in good supply throughout, as are pool towels. Everything outside is washed and cleaned every day. The pool-level café is waiter service, with a good menu of tasty food. A dedicated coal-fired grille provides all sorts of tasty fish dishes, together with other local specialties. Reception will arrange taxis and public transport stops right outside, for trips to Palma, etc. There are a few shops in the immediate area, but for shopaholics, Palma is the destination of choice. The hotel is less than 30 minutes from the airport by car. We were fortunate enough to have had cloudless skies and a welcome sea breeze for each of our 10 days. I’ve tried not to let that put any additional positives in this review, but even without the weather, the hotel was excellent throughout. OK, there were still those who bagged loungers in spite of there being three clear notices seeking co-operation in not doing so. We were surprised, given the quality and price point of the hotel, that there were no drink-making facilities, but we had brought our own in any event. There could well have been an additional lift and a very few of the dishes were not to my taste, but as I said at the start – no hotel is perfect!
"A wonderful hotel"
Riu Palace Bonanza Playa My wife and I stayed at the Riu Palace Bonanza Playa in Illetas during our 10 day holiday in Mallorca in June 2017. It was a wonderful hotel, and provided the foundation for an amazing holiday. Location: The hotel was situated in Illetas, a small settlement a few kilometres west of Palma. The surroundings were relatively quiet, but there was a frequent bus service to Palma, costing 1.50 euros for a single trip. There were a few restaurants within a 10 minute walk from the hotel and, as we had booked only Bed and Breakfast in order to have the flexibility to eat in different places, this suited us fine. The hotel had its own bar and restaurant and also provided sufficient information for you to plan your time. Staff: Without exception, the staff were friendly and efficient throughout our stay and provided an exceptional service. As soon as we stepped out of our taxi from the airport, we were greeted at the forecourt with assistance with our luggage, Check-in was smooth and uncomplicated. As we had arrived early, we were shown to the bar and given welcome drinks until our room was ready. In all areas of Reception, Breakfast, Rooms and Bar / Restaurant, the staff were always approachable and pleased to help. Room: We deliberately booked a room with a sea view and a balcony, and we were not disappointed. In the unusual layout of the hotel (reception on floor 8 descending towards the beach at ground level, our room (422) was ideally situated for easy access to the Breakfast area three levels above and to the pools three levels below, and was generally quiet throughout our stay. The room was a good size, with a sliding glass door partitioning the bedroom from the shower and toilet area. Another sliding door led to a balcony with a great view over the pools and sea front. The room had a twin bed, a table and chair, TV and a small fridge. The balcony also contained a small table and two wicker chairs. The bed linen and towels were plain, but adequate for our needs. Most important of all, it was well air conditioned, which was extremely comforting in the evenings. Breakfast: The breakfast room seated around 200 people, with table sizes ranging from 2 to 6 seats, The breakfast period was advertised as starting at 8am, but on the occasions when we arrived earlier than that, we found that it was already occupied. It generally filled up quite quickly and by 8.30am was quite full. A Buffet Breakfast offered a wide range of cereals, bread, fruit, cooked items, omelettes made to order, and even sparkling wine. The staff took orders for tea and coffee almost as soon as you were seated. The fresh orange juice was a speciality of the region and was delicious. Facilities: The hotel had two outdoor (fresh water) swimming pools, with the smaller pool being for adults only. There was also direct access to the sea. Generally, there were enough sunbeds to accommodate everyone, however the legend of certain nationalities 'securing' the best places was confirmed every day. As early as 6.30am, a constant line of people could be seen making their way to the pool area clutching towels with which to mark their desired spot. I also have to mention that pool-side staff could also be spotted with armfuls of towels for this same practice, no doubt under instruction from guests too lazy to get out of bed. I believe there is also a spa and indoor facilities, but we did not use them. We had opted to eat out each night, fearing that the hotel restaurant would be too pricey, but we were wrong in this case. We visited the “Krystal” restaurant, located on the ground floor, on our last evening. The restaurant was small and had a lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious, the discounted prices for hotel guests were very reasonable, and the staff were very helpful and efficient. Last, but not least, the hotel offered free WiFi, which allowed you to use your devices to access the internet without fear of those pricey roaming charges. Entertainment: Each evening between 9pm and 10.30pm, there was some pleasant musical entertainment performed in the ground floor bar area. This usually consisted of a solo singer performing to backing tracks, or a guitar player. We particularly liked the Thursday evening event which saw a guitarist and percussionist providing music for two energetic Flamenco dancers. Conclusion: In summary, we loved the hotel, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a base for their stay on Mallorca. During our time at the hotel, there appeared to be a lot of older guests and not too many children, so I cannot comment on the suitability of the hotel for the younger age group. Although you would expect such standards from a 4-star hotel, it is affordable to those with lesser budgets, and is good value for money. We can’t wait to return. Useful Tip: On arrival, we were given a booklet, advertising island excursions run by a company called World s Services, and which could be booked through the hotel reception. Generally, you can visit most of the places on offer by yourselves using the excellent public transport system on the island. You may consider using the organised excursions to visit more distant destinations, however our experience of this company was less than impressive, and it is only memorable to us for how shambolic the full day excursion that we took turned out to be. It might be advisable to check out reviews of World s Services before you decide to take an excursion with them.
What a fantastic four day stay, it's our third visit and I have to say what a great hotel, the staff can't do enough to help, it's a lovely hotel, food is brilliant, Thanks for making us welcome again
"Less then you expect"
All the time when you are choosing RIU hotel you expect good quality of service. But not this time. First impression is perfect all people are nice and they would like to help you. It’s ok when you don’t need any help or your case is simple just help with luggage if you need something more forget. Of course if you are Russian then maybe you will get support even if you will speak in Russian. What is the worst I did not expect that from RIU. I created a claim for service and what I had got from them is only claim registration number. Now few words about the hotel. It is nice but not perfect rooms on the first and second floor have a problem with sun (you can feel like in basement) of course they are clean and the room keeper clen it every day. Brekfast are normal close to the business breakfast l standards not a holiday standards. It’s been crowded in normal breakfast hours. Surroundings it is ok. Hotel with access to the see – yes it is true but it’s not easy one and it’s shered with some boats, diving center.
"A Slice of Heaven"
We returned this week from a 1 week stay at the Hotel Riu Palace Bonanza Playa at Illetes on Mallorca. It's our 6th visit to the hotel and as usual it was superb. We were fortunate enough to be in one of the Presidential suites, which are extremely well appointed with breath-taking views across the Bay of Palma. This is a luxury hotel for sure, but it won't break the bank. The hotel is spectacular, being built into the cliff-side, and it has its own private peninsula. The grounds are immaculate and extensive, and there are 2 good-sized pools outside (one of which is an adults only infinity pool), and also a further pool in the luxurious spa and wellness centre. The level of service in the Bonanza is fantastic- everyone is extremely polite, friendly and helpful. The quality of service and of the hotel is reflected in the very high repeat rate of customers, and we have got to know many of the same people who stay in the hotel each year. The entertainment is good, and in particular if you stay at the Bonanza you should try to see the Friday evening Ruben Memories's show, which is terrific. It seems unfair to only mention some of the staff, as they are all extremely welcoming without exception, but I'm going to mention a few anyway. A big thank you to Tolo Mora, the hotel director, to Anabel Diaz the Manager, and Tania Dvornikova the bookings and reservation manager. I have to mention all of the pool bar staff, who are excellent, and in particular, Joanna, Castro and Rogerio. In the restaurant I would also thank Santiago and Pablo for their great service. Finally, but most definitely not least, I will say a big thank you to Mercedes the cleaner - she kept our suite spotless!
