We ended up having to stay in Barcelona unexpectedly. I looked on TA and found this hotel and for some reason it was very reasonably priced. Booked right away and arrived a few hours later. !Magnifico! As noted elsewhere, great vib, nice smell, quirky but fascinating decor, welcoming staff, cozy comfy QUIET room, lovely breakfast buffet. Can't wait to return.
The first thing you notice as you walk in.....is the beautiful smell everywhere ! Even in you room as you enter, what a fantastic touch of decadence. This is a lovely boutique hotel, with some nice touches. The staff were super and so polite, especially those working in the bistro, where we had our lovely breakfast and afternoon tea, yummy cakes ! We were very happy with our 4 night stay.
"Lovely boutique hotel in BCN"
Hotel Villa Emilia is situated in a perfect location, close enough to walk to all of Eixemple, Placa Catalunya, and the University area. It is a 1-minute walk to the Rocafort metro stop, which is on the red line/line 1 and will get you anywhere in Barcelona within a half hour. The hotel is staffed with welcoming and helpful people, always smiling and greeting you when you walk in the door. I highly recommend paying for breakfast ahead of time. Not only is it delicious, but it is cheaper to pay ahead, and you will want to have breakfast there before heading out for the day. The restaurant and bar are lively and convivial--a nice place to come "home" to every night and enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail. There is a talented musician, Adeline, who plays Thursdays and Saturdays and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to her. There is also a lovely rooftop terrace. We did not spend much time there because it was autumn and not as lively as the bar on the main floor, but I imagine in warmer months it is a wonderful place to hang out. The rooms are a nice size, and ours had a door that opened to a railing to look out on the street. My only complaint here is that I wish it had been better soundproofed. I stayed at another BCN hotel on Gran Via which had much more street noise, but once the door was shut you couldn't hear a thing. Not so much the case here. I travel with earplugs, so mostly this did not affect me, but it could be improved. The bathroom and shower is wonderful. Nice and hot and always good water pressure. It was roomy enough for two people to be in there at once. The toiletries provided have a very pleasant, gender-neutral fragrance that is not over powering and does not dry out your skin. One other suggestion would be to have somewhere to put luggage. We had large cases because we were traveling for two weeks, and found it difficult to put our luggage anywhere other than slanted diagonally in the built-in armoire or on the bench at the foot of the bed. The layout of the room, on a diagonal, made putting it out of the way challenging. There is a nice-sized desk, a safe, and a mini fridge stocked with sodas and snacks as well. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!
We love Villa Emilia. We don't stay there these days as they treated us poorly a little while ago. We decided on this visit (we are in Barcelona 4/5 times a year), to see what was happening. The minute we entered we felt at home. It was Sunday and coffees turned to beers and then benjamins and G&T's. A singer/guitarist entertained us very nicely. We spent a very happy few hours there before walking our dog up around the Olympic Park. We miss Villa Emilia.
"A lovely boutique hotel"
In Barcelona for a city break. Hotel was clean and had a warm friendly feeling. The reception area was modern and quirky with a lovely smell. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The only downside was there was no tea making facilities in the room but they offered free tea and cake on the 1st floor in the afternoon for guests. Hotel is sited in a quieter area of Barcelona but in a good position for picking up the City tour bus.A great way of seeing Barcelona. WORD of warning keep your handbag across your body. I had my stolen off my shoulder by a cyclist.
