We are still in-house but happy to write this review and share how amazing this property is! We have a beautiful ocean view, the room is very well appointed and it's an all-inclusive resort, what's more to ask! The staff are very friendly and sincerely happy to help. We have dined in most of the restaurants and the food is consistently good and fresh. For someone who is nervous eating overseas, it's been quite easy. The housekeeping team do a great job refreshing the room and the small touches at turndown are very much appreciated. The activities team, in particular Sol and Angelo, are a tonne of fun! They have wonderful energy and great spirit - thank you!! Overall, a beautiful property to visit with ocean front. It's easy to keep to yourselves but also to meet others from around the world. Would highly recommend.

"A fine resort with great service but no "WOW" factor"
My husband and I enjoyed a break from the kids over a long weekend at the Zilara. The resort is in the middle of a narrow swath of the hotel zone, so there isn't much to walk to nearby (the Flamingo mall across the street is a dump, blessed with a Bubba Gump Shrimp and an Outback Steakhouse as highlights), but the bus is easy. The foyer is lovely, and the welcome is warm by staff. The lobby is large and airy for the neat shows performed each evening, but the furniture is quite worn and the space isn't spectacular. We had an upgraded room with a fantastic balcony at the quiet end of the hallway on the seventh floor. I recommend these over the "upgraded" rooms with a swim up pool--a lot of people have a swell view into your room there. The regularly included restaurants are fine, just mostly uninspired. The buffet was well-run and plentiful, and the Japanese restaurant had tasty options. This is Cancun, and if you're looking to visit here, you should acknowledge on the front end that this is not the most "real" part of Mexico (like Las Vegas is to the U.S.). The main Mexican restaurant reinforces that perception, with mild, gringo-safe food. But the tequila/tapas bar had FABULOUS food and cocktails--a real step up from everything in the resort we tried. Our three biggest complaints' We were supposed to get a seating at the chef's table per our upgraded room and never got in (they don't let you book early); the cleanliness in common areas was lacking (I'm afraid there was a used condom in the hall for three days while we were there. I'm shocked with the number of housekeepers around); and housekeeping took FOREVER to get to our room. Our room wasn't cleaned by 4:00 in the afternoon, and they didn't come for turndown until almost 10. Too late. Yet, we still give them four dots' You bet. The staff we interacted with was really friendly. No one was pushing hard for the timeshare or anything else, for that matter. The spa was enjoyable, and the food was plentiful. The resort just lacks a bit of organization and inspiration (particularly by the housekeeping and menu planners), but overall it's fine. We probably wouldn't go back as there are better locations on the strip with restaurants and shopping, and other hotels with more impressive properties. But if you have a deal through points or your airline like we did, go for it!
"Would definitely go back! "
We went with 2 other couples for 5 nights. Our friends are part of the Real Club and our check in and some services were different so I can't comment on the other check in/out process. There were lots of activities arranged by the resort for no additional cost (yoga, bike rides, shoes in the lobby, pirate ship tour of the mangroves, and more). Staff were very friendly and accommodating for the most part. We had some issues with room service at times but overall good service. A couple bartenders by the pool were less than friendly at times and ignored the fact that we were trying to get them to make drinks in our own cups instead of the tiny plastic cups they use. The beach area was large and the cabanas were nice and available. Pool cabanas fill up quick with some people getting there at 5 AM to mark their pool cabana. That wasn't really an issue with the beach ones. The eateries were great. You really need to make reservations in advance though if you have your heart set in going. Especially for the Chef's Plate which I highly recommend. But you can also go 10-15 after the hour and if someone isn't there fir the reservation, they will let you in. Thats how we got into the Hibachi. Tipping is definitely expected by some staff which adds up fast. Arturo in Spice was an awesome waiter. Probably my favorite overall. Very friendly to all his tables and attentive to service. I think Daniel was the name of our Hibachi cook. Very talented!! Spa service were okay. The actual service was great! Pricey and the staff weren't that interested in creating an experience other then during my massage & facial. The spa area didn't have much of SM ambience & unlike the states they didn't try to make you comfortable. It was in & out. I was surprised that anyone could use the spa amenities and it wasn't just for those who purchased a service. I wish I would have accessed the sauna, steam shower & plunge pool more but like I said, the staff there didn't make it too inviting. I wouldn't get any spa services if I had it to do again. I'd rather wait until I get home to get a full spa experience for less money.
"Best All Inclusive (but not for us) !"
This is a beautiful property with a very friendly and courteous staff!! (I was sick one day and every day thereafter no matter what venue we were in, the staff asked how I was feeling!) Rooms are spacious and comfortable with very comfortable beds. All rooms have balconies with great beach views. The pool and beach are pretty with quite a few cabanas. Food and alcohol (lots of top shelf brands) are of a much better quality than most all-inclusives. There were lots of fresh vegetables and fruit all the time. Meats and fish were tender and well prepared. Nothing was very spicy so we were frequently asking for peppers! For variety, there are four restaurants in addition to the main ding room which is buffet. There is Mexican, Japanese, and a mixed cuisine outdoor poolside restaurant. All these are excellent although we enjoyed the Japanese the most. The Mexican restaurant had some of the best Mexican food we ever ate. Pelicans, the outdoor restaurant, was also very good. The one bad thing I would say about this hotel is that they have a number of commons sense rules--but, they don't enforce them!!I t would be a much better stay there if they did so. As an example, cabanas are "first come, first served and cannot be left unoccupied longer than 30 minutes. Yet routinely guests would go to the pool early in the morning and put their things in a cabana. Then go inside for breakfast and be gone 2-3 hours. When we asked the pool boys, they just shrug their shoulders, and say "we know that is the rule but the guests don't follow them!" Unfortunately, we will not be returning here. We have decided all-inclusives are not for us even though this hotel is "adults only" !! Guests are very loud and frequently rude, as well as routinely flouting the rules ! We moved down the street to the Ritz Carlton and were much happier.
