Service - Cons & Pros: During the check-in, we were very disappointed by the service as the employee (Timea) was not friendly, nor welcoming at all. Luckily for us, we checked out with Gabor Toth and he was the opposite. Really friendly, charming, and kind. If only we had checked in with him, it would have been perfect! Location - Pros: The hotel is amazingly well situated right by the Danube. The view is gorgeous and you can see some of the main monuments of Budapest. On top, it is walking distance from many shops, restaurants, and the Budapest eye (Giant Wheel). Breakfast - Pros: We had the complete breakfast (you can also choose continental breakfast or a la carte), and it was great. Plenty of choices from salty to sweet food. You have an egg station where you can order omelette, and a Chinese food station. Very complete and all you can eat with good quality of food. Rooms - Pros: We requested connecting rooms, and they granted our request. The rooms were big enough and clean with an amazing view on the Danube (see picture). I highly recommend this place for short stays (and long) as everything seemed to be around.
"Bus Station Atmosphere"
This hotel seems to be doing brisk busines with the river tour companies that take over the lobby at times. The rooms look like no one had touched them for a quarter of a century. Not appropriate for InterContinental branded hotel. More of a Holiday Inn feel. Like the decor of the club lounge and the views from there. The evening canapes and hot items are by request. Royal Ambassador treatment and upgrades leave lot to be desired.
"Wonderful Sunday Brunch"
Booked ahead and got a great table for a birthday treat, Had a great view to Buda Palace and Danube. Amazing array of food and plentiful champagne, etc. Definitely recommend, but go hungry and expect to take a nap afterwards.
We were delighted to find that we could walk everywhere into the old city , or take the trolley bus. As we were just opposite the Castle District across the Chain Bridge, we could walk across & explore the area which has lots to see & do. As it was a wet cold day &night, we decided to eat in and the Restaurant was amazingly reasonable for its culinary standard.' The daily breakfast is complete with great variety of fruit, cheeses , fantastic selection of breads, hot & cold dishes even a small corner of Asian Congee. Unfortunately our room had no view to speak off & again same complaint only one luggage stand & my bag had to be put on top of the coffee table. On the whole we are quite happy with the Hotel although I wonder if I would have paid the price.
The Intercontinental has a superb location just in front of the Danube River and walking distance to plenty of shopping and restaurants. The lobby is spacious and beautiful. Upon check in we were offered to upgrade to river view for 50 Euros which we passed. The room size was good, bathroom size reasonable too. Only complaint is that they are stingy with drinking water and only provided a bottle a day. Wifi is complimentary and good. Breakfast selection is good as well. We enjoyed our stay.
