Our room was large but looked a little tired, yet the hotel staff from the manager down couldn't do enough for us. I had one of the best facials I have ever had in my life at this hotel. The position is outstanding - beside the Danube. Would definitely recommend.
Miklós and Márton provided outstanding service during the Sunday brunch. They were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly - we felt like we were still back home in NYC just with the European ambiance. Thank you for making our Budapest experience much more special Miklós and Márton! Staff well hired.
"The perfect hotel for tourists & all. Had few issues but still deserves 5 star"
Location – 7 Star Budapest is a very beautiful city. Probably Intercontinental is “The Hotel” with the very best view of the city, especially if you get a room on the river side. Hotel is situated at the very centre of the city overlooking the river canal and the palace and other monuments. The scenery and the overall view is stunning. Shopping malls, shops, restaurants, street foods, supermarkets and other city entertainments, literally everything is few mins to 10 mins away. From the location perspective, this hotel deserves a 7 star ratings. Hotel – 5 Star Hotel comes under classical business & leisure 5 star hotel, rather than a contemporary kind of hotel. But perfect hotel for both business and leisure. Lobby is inviting, plenty of places to sit and relax or to have conversation family , friends or casual work meetings. Overall, hotel is a typical 5 star hotel with everything that you can expect from a 5 star hotel. Rooms – 4 Star Rooms are more or less 5 star standard, but slightly smaller, which can be forgiven, considering the fact it’s a city hotel. However, my 4 star standard is primarily for the bathroom & toilet space, which is small and outdated. But it doesn’t matter if you get a perfect river view and for the hotel location. Overall, rooms are clean, and perfect for a comfortable night sleep. Restaurants – 4 Star Corso Restaurant and Bar are very appealing as you would expect from a 5 star standard. I haven’t tried the restaurant so I cannot comment. However I have tried the Corso bar and food at the bar. Angus Beef burger was bit disappointing, not bad, but it wasn’t one of the best either Probably 3 star for that. Tasted like some kind of frozen food. From the room service request, French Toast was bit disappointing too, it was very bland with no taste of its own. It looks perfect like the Cheese Cake factory’s (American Restaurant chain) the world best French toast, but the taste was too bland and the syrup was bit too strong too. I am pretty sure they probably have a better food with other menu items. But from my limited experience it fell short of 5 star standards. Health & Fitness – 5 star (for a city hotel) Considering the fact it’s a city hotel, I didn’t expect a decent gym, quietness and space. Though this is not one of the best hotel gym I have been to , but worth the 5 star because of the central location of the hotel and they have good amount of equipments and space to meet the need of all individual from serious to casual fitness requirements. I was very pleased with the hotel gym. Hotel also comes with a nice pool. IHG Elite Membership Loyalty Benefits – 4 Star To be honest, I probably should give 5 star for their service. Overall, very pleased with the service and their reward and loyalty to loyal IHG elite member. But if I have to compare with some of the other Intercontinental and other IHG hotels, where they have gone above and beyond to upgrade me to suites on multiple instances. So in comparison, this hotel reward fell below short of the standards that are set by other hotels in the past. So I have to reserve the 5 star rating for the best of the best hotels that does really reward their customers. I booked two hotel rooms using points, and they upgraded me from a standard room to river side standard room. The lady who checked me in was very professional and helpful, took an extra effort to speak to her manager to ensure that both room was interconnected and had the river view. Fruit basket were gifted when we checked-in to the room. Every day, at least 4 bottles of water was given as a compliment. Overall, the hotel fulfilled their part of reward and loyalty as per text book and with exceptional hospitality. Staffs & Hospitality Services – 5 Star Very friendly & helpful staff and exceptional service overall. Concierge Service – 3 Star We originally planned to hire a rental car and drive from Vienna to Bratislava and to Budapest and to Zagreb, but our plan changed a bit, so we decided to get the train until Budapest. We already did some research and figured out bus is the best option to travel to Zagreb as there are no direct flights and flights are as long as bus and expensive too. We found Flixbus service for approximately 120 euro for 3 individuals. But I wanted to get a second opinion from the hotel Concierge team before I booked the Flixbus tickets. I asked the gentle man from the Concierge team what are my options. He told me I can either take bus, train or hotel car and the hotel car will cost me 550 EUR. For the bus service, he suggested there is an Orangeway bus service. So at this point I took his word, because he is the local expert. So instead of the Flixbus we booked the Orangeways.com, as it was double the times cheaper and suggested by the local concierge (expert) team. The next day, the bus was supposed to depart from the Budapest Groupama Arena at 6 AM, we waited there from 5:20 AM to until 9:30 AM, but that bus never turned up. And there was few passengers waiting for the Prague bus and that bus from Orangeways.com didn’t turn up either. So they went back after 2 hours wait. I am with the family stranded and none of the alternative services available as they are fully booked. Orangeways.com office is at the arena bus stop but no one came to work until 9:30 AM. They had dozen numbers, 50% of the numbers are dead, 2 of the ex-employees spoke, one guy disconnected it and the other guy told us the company is fraudulent company. Local passers-by who saw us waiting for hours told us that’s a rubbish company. So we searched for them in the internet, internet is full of complaints about what a rubbish service and fraudulent company this was. So I called the hotel and the concierge team to ask them why they are even suggesting such a scam company to the hotel guests. It is just black and white obvious Orangeway is a scam & rubbish company based on the internet ratings, feedbacks and locals that we spoke to. As a result of their advice I was stranded with my family and I have nowhere to go. Anyway to cut short my story guest relations sympathised but took no ownership. But finally when I spoke to the chief of Concierge team he suggested few options to help out. But as FlixBus service is the only other best option which was already full, we have requested for the hotel car. He said it will cost 550 and he offered a special price for 500 EUR. I requested further discount and he offered it for 450 EUR, which is at least 4 times more expensive than the bus service, but the best option I had and the chief of Concierge team did do his part to help out. Thanks to him for the offer and help. But I would prefer the concierge team doesn’t give such a terrible advice in the future to other hotel guests, as nothing compensates 3 hour wait in the sun at the bus stop with a child, just hoping that this bus will turn up and screwing up the entire plan for the day.
Ideally located by the Danube river overlooking the Palace & the Chain bridge, at a walking distance from St Stephen's Basillica.... we loved our stay in the hotel! The shopping is close by & one can hang on & spend a sunny day by the river in the Cafes that have mushroomed around the hotel.
"Excellent stay again, best location in the city, no issues this time"
My previous review spells out most of my thoughts on the hotel and its location, and those pretty much still hold true. As an IHG ambassador, got upgraded to a river view room again, which seems to the standard for ambassadors here. A very solid standard I think. It is still a basic room, but having a river view is a must here, and giving that to ambassadors I think is a very solid and balanced upgrade policy. Again, the concierge team was excellent, and made numerous reservations for us, although we had a couple of minor missteps, mainly when dealing with a trainee who forgot to notify us or send a note to the room when they were unable to get a reservation one day or tell us they did get one another day. All in all though, they did great work for us again and are a solid crew. The 2 free drink certificates for basic drinks or non alcoholic drinks in the bar for ambassadors were GREAT, as we enjoyed a pair of seasonal lemonades which were EXCELLENT. Ironically, those would have made more revenue for the hotel as we were definitely planning on getting another round the next day, but did not make it back due to changes in our travel plans. A real disappointment because they were delicious, and being able to get them free the first time was a superb use of the certificates given us at check in. I love getting real value out of things like that, and that was definitely possible here. The price seems to have gone up a bit since my last visit, but it was still a great value for me. The room, bed, etc., all were as my last review and I have no real complaints. Now, last time I complained about the information and offer they gave me regarding a taxi to the airport and knocked them down a star for it, as I was so put off. This time, I will say that what I was offered was far more balanced and reasonable in its approach, and I found it fair despite not using it. When I asked for a taxi to the airport at check out, the clerk at the desk told me they could offer me a car service for a fixed price of 30 euro (or was it 35' I forget). He stated he could get me a taxi as none were in the valet at the moment or they could provide their service. Instead of trying to sell me an overpriced taxi equivalent when I asked for a taxi, like they did in my last review, they offered me a clear alternative. He made it clear the cost, made it clear it was an alternative as they had to taxis, but happily offered to secure me an actual taxi with a metered fare. I found this a far option and it was presented as such. Overall, the service was good all around again, the concierge great and the view and location "ne plus ultra." I would not hesitate to stay here again next time I am in Budapest and I would in fact plan on it.
