"A fabulous hotel"
I come to Shanghai regularly, and when in China I look for hotels that are 5star, friendly, with great restaurants, lovely bedrooms, and located so I can go for a walk nearby and have a wander. This hotel ticks all the boxes, it's not flash, it's not stuck up, just a really well run hotel, with lovely people.
If you are staying in Shanghai you need to stay here at the Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai. The staff is absolutely delightful and are so attentive with a genuine desire to take care of you as a guest. The food was fantastic at the buffet and was always fresh with a great assortment of dishes. The rooms were very clean, modern and spacious. A fantastic stay! 5 stars.
"Jumeirah Pricing but not really a 5* Property"
I have stayed at the Burj al Arab, probably the most expensive hotel bill I have ever had, but worth every penny, it was superb. The Jumeirah Himalayas hotel is pleasant enough. Its not a patch on other 5 star properties in Shanghai though. The hotel is showing its age, everything is adequate but there is no wow factor, nothing outstanding. I stayed here for the location to convention center, that was the best feature of this hotel, its literally across the road from the exhibition halls. The club benefits are standard, small complimentary mini bar in suites, use of meeting room etc., but it is per STAY not per DAY. So the longer you stay the less value you get from the benefits. So in effect they are rewarding disloyalty. Stay for a night and get free stocked minibar, meeting room for 2 hours, 2 pieces of laundry etc. Stay for longer and you get charged for everything. I did ask for the mini bar to be replenished (at a cost) they didn't do it. I also asked for my room to be made up before I went out one evening, I returned 4 hours later, the room was still unmade. The staff in the lounge, particularly Miro & Sebastian do try to make up for the lack of facilities and the constant nickel and diming by "the system" but really it just feels a bit mid range and touristy. The staff are great but Jumeirah are not proud of this hotel, they just use it as a cash cow with little investment. In fact I was really looking forward to using the spa, but it was closed and will be for at least 2 months, I only found out when I tried to book a treatment. Its worth RMB800 a night, but at double or triple that (which is what I paid) do yourself a favor, stay at the Mandarin or other top hotel for the same or less. They don't try to squeeze an extra penny out of you, they reward longer stays with more benefits and the spa is probably open!
"Great luxury hotel with best location (close to new exhibition)"
Such a good premium location, nice room decoration and good service. Our group visit new exhibition for 2 days and decide pay bit more to stay here. Its just 20 mins from Pudong airport (Maglev + taxi). Cross the street then found good food, shopping malls and 1 minutes to metro Line 7.
