"This is a great place to stay."
The JW Marriott Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando is a great vacation location for family and friends. I recently stayed their with my family during the July 4th holiday time. My family and I have also visited this property frequently over the years. The staff is always courteous and friendly. The rooms are always clean. The food is delicious. Because I am a Marriott rewards member the special rates are great. My favorites of the hotel are the beautiful lobby with the refreshing infused water with fruit, the lazy river pool, and the comfortable beds. This hotel also allows access to the Ritz Carlton pool and amenities that are to the right of the hotel as well as the access to the Marriott time share amenities to the left of the hotel. This is a great place to stay.
"Dated rooms, not the cleanest hotel"
This is not our first stay at the JW. My family has been coming to Orlando every few years and we stayed here every time. The hotel lobby and lazy river are as busy as ever due to conferences. The hotel runs several conferences at once so if you want a quieter hotel, it's not for you. . We stayed in room 19035The room is not quite clean. The carpet was dirty from the last guests and I had to call housekeeping to ask someone to vacuum. The only "upgrade" to the room was the flat screen TV. Carpets and furniture are showing their age. Bathroom door creaked loudly every time you try to open it. There is barely any ventilation in the bathroom. The AC didn't work well and our app showed 87% humidity in the room at one point. The front desk did send someone to change the filter and it was a little better after. Due to the humidity, the room has a moldy smell to it. Hallway carpets are dirty on some days. Trash left outside rooms in the hallway are usually there all night. No one collects it until housekeeping comes in the morning. The only positive is the service. Front desk personnel are courteous and every time we called and asked for something, it was responded to quickly. Also, the lazy river was nice though always busy. However, we would not stay here again due to poor maintenance. For the amount we pay, we certainly expected a better serviced and cleaner room.
It is incredible that a JW Marriot has such a low level of service. For three days in a row when I came at night into the room, the room was not made, valet parking takes forever, the rooms are dirty, drapes broken etc. I will never go back!!!
"Very Nice Property, But..."
We had a very nice weekend, with a convention, so we got a very good rate. The only issue we had was the bathroom sink would overflow with 'black sludge' and not once, but every night, and sometimes during the day. We were on the 8th floor, and I guess the rooms above were 'very active' and the waste system backed up. The shower and bath were fine...it was just the bathroom sink. After the second time, I reminded my wife what 'sludge' is, and she was pretty disgusted. She told the housekeeping staff, and the woman said, 'it's sludge...it does it all the time' and she was correct. The sink never overflowed past about two or three inches above the drain, but it was not a pleasant situation.
"Beautiful Resort Hotel"
We enjoyed our weekend stay very much. The grounds, view and interior of the hotels, both Marriott and the Ritz were fabulous. The only slight issue was that after the housekeepers would clean the rooms all of the debris from the trash would be littered down the hallway, as if no one came back to sweep or vacuum behind themselves. I know it's a small thing but it was noticeable. Pricing at the buffet was very high for very little assortment, but honestly isn't that to be expected at any hotel' Also, we were very surprised that chairs were not provided on any of the balconies at the Marriott but were at the Ritz. Not quite sure why other than safety for the amount of children that were there. It would have been nice to have been able to utilize the balcony in the evening during the fireworks especially since we paid extra for that room to have the balcony.
