"Very average "
I stayed 2 nights during a business trip to Shanghai and was looking forward to a break around The Bund area. I found the Hotel average at best. Whilst the hotel is well presented and easy on the eye; I found it was very superficial. Most of the staff I found at best disengaged with some very questionable levels of English on the reception. Many of the staff I simply felt like an inconvenience to. The Chinese restaurant was very good value for money but again service let it down and with staff moving tables and ironing table clothes whilst diners were still eating. The French restaurant was terrible. I had what was labelled as a tarte tatin which would have any French chef in hysterics. The room was nice and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was very strange though with the shower almost an afterthought. Finally check out was clumsy with the girl speaking poor English and needing to seek help from a colleague as she didn’t understand what sparkling water or San Pellegrino was (after asking if used the minibar). The desk area around her was very cluttered and I was able to read the monthly up-sell list and walk in incentives including guest names, room numbers and amount paid! Some work needed here by the management.
"Terrible food "
Le Bistro Very neat & clean restaurant but food taste is very ordinary. Service is okay. Resturant located heart of shanghai east Nanjing road. We tried buffet on weekend very terrible food. Might be menu order food is better.
The hotel is really ideally located if you have a few days to visit shanghai. We were able to visit most neibourhoods by walk or after a short metro ride. It is located between peoples park and nanjing road east, so plenty of shopping, restaurants and museums are just a few steps away. Our only disappointment was for the restaurant services in the hotel. The prices are really to high considering what’s available in Shanghai, and the service we have experienced at the Chinese restaurant was poor. So, the hotel is great, clean and well located but we suggest going out for restaurants and bars.
"The perfect location!"
Le Royal Meridien Shanghai is at the perfect location. From my room i could see the starting of Nanjing East Road below. The People's Square subway station is a few hundred meters away. My room was a corner room on the 34th floor. It was triangular in shape. It had a huge full window with amazing views of the city. The views were awesome both during the day and night. The room was nice and clean with all the facilities. The hotel is somewhat old probably but is well maintained. A few updates here and there in the hotel will make it even better. Breakfast was superb with a lot of variety. For a vegetarian the options are limited still it is good. There is option of both indoor and outdoor seating for breakfast and one can decide based on weather. Service is good. Check in and check out was quick. And the staff will take good care of you. Most of them know English well and sometimes if they do not get it, they will try their best using English to Chinese translation apps. There are multiple restaurants in the hotel, It also has facilities like a hair salon, gym, spa, pool etc. The weird thing is that the lobby is on the 20th floor. So one needs to change the elevators to get to the room. Overall i had a great experience and i will recommend it due to its nice location and service.
"Helpful and understanding"
After taking the midnight flight and tiring queue at immigration, arrived for check-in in the hotel 44th floor lounges in the morning, i was greeting by the smiling receptionist and asked whether i would like to have coffee and breaksfast first. She was very helpful and patience to make arrangement for meeting room and my hotel room requirement. it certainly give me a good bright start for the day.
