"Awful staff, don’t smile and shout at you"
Its difficult to know where to begin with a Hotel as emotive as Magic Blue. We arrived late one evening, with Coco Bongo in full swing opposite, and Playa Del Carmen could not immerse you more into the party vibe. Enter Magic Blue, get shown to your room, and the night lights are mystical, the room itself clean and clinical. Location-wise it fits the bills, near the main street, 5th avenue, spitting distance from the beach. Then the dream slowly began to turn. We arrived at breakfast at 10:20, and were told that because breakfast finishes at 10:30 we would not be permitted entry. A few arguments later we were allowed breakfast, though it was very disappointing: nothing is replaced; choice is very limited; and the food itself stodgy. Our breakfast saga continued on another day when we arrived at 7:45 and wished to take a banana each for our day-trip. A staff member began shouting Spanish at us, (which we could not understand), and we were forced to leave breakfast banana-less and embarrassed. Room service replaced soap, towels and sheets only when requested. We were charged for discretionary service that we did not agree. Although we raised each and every point with the manager at the Magic Blue, responses were docile and an apology was barely registered. Customer service throughout Mexico was generally excellent, and this experience unfortunately left a bad taste in the mouth at the end of the holiday. Not even shots of tequila could wipe it out.
"Excellent oasis "
We stayed 5 nights and it was excellent. A relaxing and quiet tropical oasis just one street away from the hectic 5th avenue. Reception was always friendly and helpful as were the whole staff. Breakfast was good and you don't need to leave the hotel as can be accessed within hotel. Omelettes were excellent and she was very good. Noise was not as bad as we thought before coming, air con drowned it out and room 31 was very nice. Defo would go back but 5th avenue is tiring with hagglers to pull you in to shops and restaurants so be prepared for that. Hotel was excellent
This hotel has a fair price and services Close to the living center of the town, you can find anything you need in a few minutes walking In general, good breakfast, excellent location and warm staff The only complain is regarding parking. They offer an associate space and charge you for that, different from booking descriptions
My husband and I have been coming to PDC for many years. We love to be on the beach and enjoy the amenities of the all inclusive resorts. But we decided to try something different and after searching and reading reviews we chose the Blue Magic. We were very happy with our choice. It was so nice to be close to 5th Ave. Just a few steps away The Blue Magic is a hidden gem! We loved everything about it. Check in was fast, staff friendly, room clean and nice. Pool was great and loved the setting. Pool side bar service was great never had a problem waiting for a drink. All staff working there are friendly and hard working. They are constantly working on the grounds keeping it looking beautiful . With our stay we did receive breakfast at the restaurant on site. In previous reviews some people said it was "mediocre at best." We thought there was plenty to choose from. Eggs made anyway you want, fresh fruit, juices, breads, beans, and other choices of food! The Blue Magic is not on the beach and if you read reviews you will know that. We walked to the Kool beach club. About 15 min walk 10 if you walk fast like us! We took a cooler with beer and water. Did not use lounge chairs so we could drink our beverages. If you pay for chairs it goes towards food or drink if you eat there. We did eat lunch there one day and it was good not a bad price. We went to the beach club 3 times, went to ours friends resort on the beach a couple of times to break it up and stayed at the Blue Magic a few days by the pool. In previous reviews I read about shuttle will take you to beach club. That was never mentioned when we checked in. I said something to the lady that checked us in but she just skimmed over it and said you can walk ' So we were tired and didn't think much of it. Not a big deal we were planning on walking everywhere. But if you are unable to walk that far or want to take a cooler, beach bag it could be a problem. Take a cab! The only issue I had was hearing music from club across the street until 3 or 4 am. Woke me up most nights. I can't wear ear plugs. I tried the ones they gave us but it didn't help or I put them in wrong. I eventually fell back to sleep. It didn't make me not want to stay there . I still felt like I slept ok when I woke up. Husband didn't hear anything. Walmart is a quick 5 min walk you can grab beverages, snacks, etc for your room or cooler if you do not want to pay for what you take out of fridge in room. We did a little of both. Ate all dinner meals 5th Ave. great prices! Great food! So many places to choose from. Overall, it was a great place to stay and we will be back for sure! If you do not mind not being on the beach and saving some money it's worth it! The beach is within walking distance great exercise!
"Good town centre hotel"
My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week, initially in room 46 (master suite) and then in room 10. The hotel is perfectly located for all local amenities in Playa. You walk through the reception and into what feels like a little paradise. The pool and central area are well maintained and feel very tropical. Like other reviews, we had some noise issues which is why we ended up moving out of the suite and into a normal room. When we spoke to the staff to air our concerns they were really understanding and accommodating and happy to do what they could to ensure a happy stay for us. I would recommend calling and speaking to someome before you arrive to discuss the potential for noise disturbance. On the left side of the hotel is a hostel called Yak which plays very loud music until 3/4am most if not all nights. We couldn't sleep due to it, even with earplugs. I'd say the best areas are on the right, from about the middle to the back. There is still street noise but from those rooms the earplugs are quite effective at blocking it out. It's not a reason not to stay here, just make sure you know what the likely noise levels are before you pay so you know what you're getting from the start. Breakfast is simple but there are plenty options and we enjoyed our first meal of the day all week. There's a really good organic breakfast place about 50 yards on your right as you walk out the front door that do amazing smoothies etc if you fancy a change.
