"Overnight weekend stay"
Requested river view room, the main window was actually more to the side of the building but was in view of the liver buildings so I was happy with that. Bedroom was lovely, clean and tidy. In some parts it was a little worn but I was told they were having all rooms refurbished floor by floor. The breakfast service was a little slow. We ordered toast and coffee but they took quite a while, the breakfast came before the coffee and I believe ours came before others who had ordered on different tables. The actual breakfast was good and the other choices on the continental table had a good selection . The staff did work hard at breakfast, just could have done with a couple more there. Would visit again without a doubt.
"Wow to the hotel"
What a great place, fantastic premises, stunning rooms and wonderful staff. All hotels should be like this. Staff at dinner were great and were so professional, down to friendly breakfast service. I had an issue with my shower but called reception and it was sorted asap. Look forward to the next visit.
I booked this hotel at last minute to attend an early morning meeting in Liverpool. Last week I stayed at a so called 4 star hotel in London, which was appalling. This hotel was in a different league. I called ahead to make dinner reservations and the friendly receptionist made me feel very welcome and with a good feeling that I had made a good choice with this hotel. The receptionist was helpful upon checking in and made lots of nice conversation. I asked for an upgrade and that’s what I got. My room was spacious, clean, well maintained. I asked for a phone charger and the receptionist kindly charged my phone whilst I ate dinner. Dinner was fantastic. The maitre recommended a glass of Albariño wine as I hinted that I liked Sancerre but didn’t want a full bottle. I ate chicken liver parfait for starter which was the best I had ever tasted. My main course of macaroni with truffle and wild mushroom was delicious, if not a little over sized. The staff were amazingly friendly and I felt at home at this hotel. I slept really well as the bed was comfortable and luxurious. Breakfast was delicious. I am very picky but this hotel ticks all of the boxes. I will definitely be staying here again and will probably also stay for pleasure for a nice weekend in Liverpool when I get more free time !
"Malmaison translates to Bad House"
This hotel caters for the young. My wife and I are in our 70,s. Natural light is blocked. Music, frequently dance music is piped to the bar, restaurant and toilets. A dark purple dominates everywhere. Lighting levels are low which is particularly annoying in the bathroom. The water taps all turn off anti-clockwise and opposite to normal. We had a standard room on the 5th floor that looked over a dual carriageway. The bath was very deep and attractive looking but impossible to use when you Have had 2 hip operations. Unfortunately the shower thermostatic valve was notworking so I was unable wash all over. The toilet flushes were differcult to operate but were fixed by maintenance promptly The breakfasts were ok. But on the first morning the mushroom was cold and the tomato was burnt. An evening meal was expensive and ordinary. In general staff were well trained and polite but to those of more mature years very familiar (Hi guys)
"Broken and tacky .."
Remember the time you went to a hotel to experience something a bit better than your home - and possibly even to be waited on with quiet attention. Those days are well gone if you go to the Malmaison Liverpool. This ‘designer’ contemporary hotel, with its 90s dark, tarty style, has been seriously neglected. It’s still dark and tarty - but now also, shabby, but without any chic. In our first ‘King Room’, the blind was broken. Hanging to one side, it would not go up, ratcheting and threatening to fall off completely; the sink did not drain; the water-saving toilet flush did not work; the water from the shower did not drain completely, leaving a ‘puddle’ all day; the taps lolled about in their fitting - and when you got to bed it was impossible to read as there were no reading lights. The message about these problems to the receptionist in the morning was ‘not passed on’, when we returned in the late afternoon. Funny that' However in our replacement room, although the blind worked, the shower was near impossible to adjust. It had been forced out of its limits- and was either scalding or cold. Service in the bar and restaurant was aggressively polite and corporate in style. The food was ok. Breakfast on the last day was chaotic. My cooked dish arrived 30 minutes after ordering, and only after prompting. The lifts went uncleaned. Some maintenance and redesign might help. Without it, this Malmaison is just a BadHouse.
