Stayed here May 18-20 on a business trip. The lobby is immaculate. The room was cozy and clean and room service was superb. Also loved the location. Right next to convention center downtown and not far from highway. Would definitely stay again.
"A Sterile Wasteland – The Concierge Lounge is a monumental rip-off"
This hotel is very convenient if you are attending a convention, but there is absolutely no reason to stay there if you are in DC for any other reason. It has a very weird and inconvenient L-shaped design, with a cavernous atrium and the elevators as far away for the center of the structure as possible. On the average you may have to walk as much as a city block to get from the main entrance to your room, and that can be an issue with seniors. Small rooms with cheap plastic bathrooms and ergonomically weird door configurations. If the bathroom door is open it basically touches the toilet bowl and the shower door cannot open…again, if you are not very acrobatic, you may be challenged. NEVER PAY for an upgrade to the concierge lounge, or Club M as it is called. We were charged $80 a day, and were told that there will be breakfast, snacks during the day and light items at dinner time. Having experienced real concierge lounges in good quality hotels (the Ritz comes to mind), I found Club M a travesty appropriate to a Transylvanian hovel. Management is horrible and the service sullen. As an example, during breakfast they would only bring out a dozen or so hard-boiled eggs in a bowl, and, when they run out, they would just tell you, well, bad luck, no more. The only other nourishment options were a runny, artificial tasting scrambled egg concoction, thick oatmeal gruel, and some cold cuts & small bagels. The “snacks” during the day were just A FEW STICKS of semi-dried celery, carrots & zucchini. Nothing else (!) not even a bag of cheap potato chips or equivalent. Yes, they did offer jars of jelly beans and gummy bears, if you felt like going into an insulin shock. The light diner items were mini hot-dogs in soggy buns and Sloppy Joe with tortilla chips. That's it ! THE WORST OFFENSE was that, although you have paid $80 for all this tripe, they would still stick for $10 for a glass of wine. That is really crass. The M Club room has a strange configuration and horrible acoustics so if someone is enthusiastically yelling to their cellphone about their Washington adventure, there is no way one can have a quiet business discussion. In summary, only stay in this hotel for a convention, and, if you are given Club M for free or as an upgrade, that’s OK, provided you enjoy gummy bears. But you are warned, if you pay for Club M, you don't get your money's worth by any means.
"Another curates egg but is location enough'"
Location is amazing. Great for conference centre and therefore also not a quiet personal type of hotel. Check in not good. Room: bed very comfortable, bathroom small, overall room felt a little cramped. Air con was perfect. M lounge OK, often busy and food average. Lobby bar v busy, could not find a seat and so meeting people in a casual way was almost impossible. Add to that the famous Marriott drinks premium (5 for 65 dollars) left a bit of a poor taste. Staff overall very helpful, esp housekeeping. Great location, good conference hotel but I had hoped for a little more...
"Convenient to convention center"
Stayed here during a convention. Incredibly convenient especially since it was rainy several of the days. Connects via underground passageway to convention center. Rooms were fairly large. You can choose a room that overlooks the atrium or the street. I don't like atrium view rooms so asked for a street view which I got. The only noisy night with lots of sirens (I was on the 11th floor) was the Saturday night I stayed there, not unexpected for downtown DC. I did use the white noise app on my ipad which helped. Wifi is free to Elite members as is access to the Mlounge. This concierge lounges serves food Sunday through Thursday, breakfast, appetizers and honor bar in the evening and desserts starting at 8 pm. There is a nice outside area as well. The fitness center is great, two floors, so if you get there an the equipment you want is in use, go down the stairs, there are many more pieces of equipment including free weights on the lower level. Bottles of water are complementary but you must ask for them at the front or bellman desk. Bathrobes also are available upon request. Bathroom was great, no tub but a really nice shower. I will certainly stay here again should I be attending a meeting at the convention center. It's also an easy walk to the Mall, White House, etc.
"Convenient location, clean comfortable rooms"
Spent the weekend here recently while attending a meeting. Alerted them to the late check-in (around midnight) and not a problem with our room available despite the hotel being sold out. Used the valet parking. Most convenient hotel to the Convention Center. Friendly staff. Only negative was that the grounds in front of the hotel was littered and obviously not a lot of expense is paid to maintaining the entrance appearance.
