The Mercury Boutique Hotel is situated in the island of Sant'Antioco, Cala Sapone, in the province of Carbonia-Iglesias. The town centre is 13 km away and the island is also perfectly connected to Sardinia by a narrow isthmus.
Bedroom with a small balcony to enjoy the sunset. Beautiful pools. Easy walking distance to the 2 nearby beaches Lovely staff who drove us to sant'Antioco and another beautiful beach. Decent free breakfast and nice evening meals. No complaints just be prepared for the mosquitoes!
"Pretty amazing place to stay"
Bought last minute due to monarch airline going bust so we couldn't make our original holiday to Menorca. Basic double room was quite good, clean and the bed was large. Includes wardrobe space and a small TV with a small balcony. Air con would strangely not go below 21 degrees celcius, so in early october the nights are quite hot and there are mosquitoes! Bathroom is clean with large shower. Walls could be a little thicker, were woken up by next door's baby. The two pools are nice and clean and ample size. Grounds are kept very well and the interior of the reception and dining area is lovely! Staff are multi-lingual and friendly. Restaurant is reasonably priced with some good food that changes daily. Breakfast is quite nice too. Not an ideal place to go if you haven't rented a car but we managed (train to carbonia and taxi to hotel =50 Euros for 2 in total). Little taxis in October but the hotel staff drove us around to Maladroxia (beautiful beach) and Sant'Antioco town for 20 euro return. It is within walking distance of two nice beaches and 2 restaurants (open in october - more probably in summer) that are alright. Imagine it is completely different in the height of summer.
"Terrible - don't waste your money!!"
We stopped at this hotel as part of a tour around Sardinia. This has to be the worst stay we have had on the island!!! We appreciated that we had now hit low season but not sure that poor service should be expected I would expect better service as they are not run off there feet! We decided to eat in the restaurant as very little in this location! Other than ourselves there were one other couple and then the staff where also dinning. I ordered the fritte octopus and small fishes - the octopus was so tough think that the chef must have kicked the octopus around the kitchen and then fried as it was as tough as old boots. We had the house red with dinner that was 'just fine' after a very poor dinner we went to the lounge for a coffee and I asked for another glass of the house red-what was served was not the wine we had earlier it tasted totally different and more like vinegar- when I challenged I was told it was another wine, I asked for this to be changed to the wine I had been drinking earlier this what created by child like stomping off and returned slammed on the table! Then coffee which arrive stone cold - for anyone English and of a certain age it really was like Fawlty Towers. Off we went to our garden room and looked forward to a comfortable sleep, we opened our door to walk into our room that was now like a sauna!! We had turned the a/c off before we had left so were bemused by the heat - we thought simple turn the a/c down and cool the room down, but it wouldn't go below 21 degrees, thinking that it wasn't working we called reception to came to our room and advised that the temperature was controlled centrally and as it was now October 1st and they only set to heat and this could not be changed - so it doesn't come with A/C as advertised it comes with the managements views on what temperature my room should be!!!!!!! I don't think I have ever stayed anywhere that I have been dictated to for temperature of my room! I advised that this was not good enough for the night manager to shrug his shoulders and storm off!!! So to sum up if you want to spend €100 for one night accommodation where you cannot sleep as you are too hot then do book here!! Oh and if you leave your windows open to get cooler the mosquito will get you!!! Happy Holidays!!!!!!
We booked via voyage prive on a last minute deal and on a whim and safe to say i was far from disappointed. After having a quick look at reviews of the hotel etc i was apprehensive though I feel a fair few negative comments made are very unfair to the hotel. If you're looking to spend a vast majority of your time at a hotel on holiday sunbathing then this probably isn't the place for you. I feel the hotel was completely worth its four star status - exceptionally clean, and provided us with all we needed. You do need a car to access this hotel and explore the incredible island. The town of Sant'antioco took 20minutes to drive to, and other neighbouring beaches, towns and attractions around the same. We stayed for 5 nights and i could have stayed another week and still felt i hadn't seen all the natural wonders the island has to offer. The staff are all exceptional. We had a garden view room - No view of the pool etc due to the wall but we were greeted by the hotels cats and birds which i adored. I had no complaints as we went down to the coves, local bars and beaches most days. Our room was huge, fresh towels, sheets and complimentary shampoo, shower gel and soap renewed each day. Room was very clean. Bed massive!!! Careful not to let the mosquitos in at night! Service wonderful, made to feel very at home by the 2nd day. Safe in room, massive wardrobe. Staff speak all languages well as far as i could tell. Chef is wonderful and the food is gorgeous and very well priced. Coffee gorgeous and it just flows and breakfast which is a huge choice of continental breakfast which is a lovely spread. I felt all staff deserved a tip for all that they do including the maintenance manager, however our budget was blown so for that i feel guilty! They are an asset to the hotel. Thank you so much for a gorgeous stay on such a wonderful island. We will come back!!!!
"Quiet island stay"
We stayed for two nights which was probably about right for us. Most people were staying for a week or more but that would have been too long for us as there isn’t really much to do apart from go to the beach. We just felt that the beaches were nicer on the main island of Sardinia. The hotel itself is good, but I think it’s misleading to call it “boutique”. Our room was a decent size, well decorated and had a good sized bathroom. The room had a garden in front of it which was a great place to sit in the evening with a glass of wine to watch the sunset. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, particularly the head waiter in the restaurant, who was so hard working it was almost tiring to watch him! The food in the restaurant was of good quality and excellent value on a half board basis. Overall I would recommend this hotel if you are visiting the island as it offers very good value for money.
