"Quirky hotel in Chinatown"
This is quite a small 'boutique' hotel just inside Chinatown. Ideal location if you want to be close to Chinatown & within easy walking distance of the restaurants & shops. Also quite reasonably priced for a Singapore hotel. However this is at best a 4* hotel & don't expect the space, service or facilities you get at one of the larger hotels in town. Our bedroom was quite small & a peculiar shape which left no space for even a bedside table, although the bed itself was clean & comfortable. The small restaurant wasn't even open so you need to eat out, although that's not too much of a hardship as there are some excellent restaurants withing walking distance. For anyone visiting for the first time it's also on the opposite side of town to the airport so a longer taxi ride than normal.
"Worth a stay"
the rooms come in different themes and visited the last time since the building will be privatize. the service is good and the room that we book was big for my kid to run around without any obstruction.
"End of a quality boutique hotel"
A "one of its kind" boutique hotel in Singapore, with 30 rooms, each with a different themes and a story behind the themes. Though it has been around for 11 years but never felt that this hotel is outdated. I try not to review my favorite hotel in Singapore as I may seems biased about it on my previous stays. But this 6th stay in New Majestic hotel, which was also the last time staying with them as they are closed for operation, for a transformation of the building. I thought I should write something for a closure. Located just a few minutes walk away from Outram Park MRT station exit H. And situated at the quiet corner of Chinatown, with loads of awesome restaurants within the vicinity. What I like about this hotel, starts from the lobby with loads of crazy designed chairs, and the deliberately unfinished ceiling. Had stayed in a couple of rooms over the years but this time I'd managed to secure the ever popular "Fluid" room, which is a fully carpeted cream color room, with curvy designs on the sofa, cupboard etc to create a fluid feel. This room comes with a very big cupboard, which you can store 2 big luggage in it and yet still left with spaces to hide in the cupboard. The room also has a fully covered bathroom (this hotel is designed to have open concept bathrooms) with very good rain shower facility, and it is spacious too probably due to the fact that there is no bathtub in this room. Although there isn't a working table in this room, I was sitting on the floor using my laptop as it was comfortable for me to do so. Air con tends to be a bit cold at night though, and the bed and pillows seems too soft for my liking, but overall my stay was a cosy one. It's sad to see this beautiful hotel go, as there were lots of memories in this hotel (birthday party, events etc). Nevertheless, it was a great experience to stay with New Majestic Hotel.
"Nice and centrally located hotel with individually designed rooms"
Pleasant stay - too bad they don't serve breakfast. The minibar is complementary, which I appreciated a lot. The design of the room was not really what I expected in a contemporary hotel: it looked like an old chinese room. This could be very nice, also in an contemporary hotel, but somehow it just looked like a room that had become old fashioned. The bathroom products are by Kiehls and good quality.
"Uncomfortable, impractical and upsetting experience"
I booked this because I trusted SPG hotel chain. This was a huge error. I arrived to poor service (when the staff went to check the room was ready they left me in reception and failed to advise that it was complete), a room with mirrors on the ceiling, an unmade bed, mouldy cushions on the bed, electrics that were so bad they crackled. The room was called 'The Pussy Parlour' which I found offensive. The toilet didn't flush, the drains were so loud they woke me up continuously. There was no separate shower so I had to climb into a raised bath (this meant overcoming the side of the bath which was approximately 70cm high and 40cm deep). There were 6 different light switch locations in the room which didn't make for a quick bedtime, given there were 4 different blinds to close as well. None of the lightswitches were reachable from the bed, not even a bedside light, meaning I would turn off the lights and navigate to bed using my phone light. Breakfast was not served at this hotel, but instead you had to walk to the sister hotel 'only a few streets away'.... not practical during a business trip. All in all I dreaded returning to the seedy feeling, impractical, damp room at the end of my day. I couldn't find a single sensible staff member to speak to at the time - when I brought it up I got a blank look. I have since contacted SPG a number of times about this and am yet to receive any feedback or apology! They simply email a computer generated response, thanking me for my comments and hoping I enjoyed my stay. I have followed up a number of times but can now only assume they do not care about their customers or the service, which is why I am now leaving such a bad public review.
