"Mediocre and forgettable"
We have been to Cancun three times before, stayed at the Palace Resorts, Fiesta Americana, and Riu Palace. We had high hopes for the Omni Cancun, but we are deeply disappointed. The resort lobby is nice, but everywhere else is underwhelming. Our room is so dated, it felt more like a Red Roof Inn. The food at the Mexican restaurant was much worse than our average TexMex, and other restaurant was quite mundane. Resort is fairly small by Cancun/Riviera Maya standards. We thought we got a good deal online, but we would not return to waste our vacation time at Omni Cancun. There are far better hotels in the area. After 4 nights at the Omni, we moved to Occidental at Xcaret, and it is significantly better. We are glad to have 7 nights there. Omni Cancun was not worthy of the Omni moniker, spend your vacation time elsewhere.
"Nice resort, poor management"
We stayed for two weeks this year. The food and service is outstanding. Our trip was ruined however because the management allows smoking. The paperwork we were given clearly states no smoking in the room. We were bothered by people in the room next to us smoking and the smoke came through the adjoining door and from the balconies. We reported it to management, and they did nothing. There are designated smoking areas throughout the facility. People walk around smoking in restaurant areas, and hot tubs. Again we reported it, again it was ignored. We have friends with asthma and cancer survivors in our group who go every year, the management should be ashamed for allowing these guests to be exposed to this unhealthy experience. Even though they promote this as a non smoking resort, they don’t enforce the rules and threaten guests lives. This resort needs someone higher up to change this.
"Excellent Trip! Never left the Omni"
My girlfriend and I went went last Spring for 4 days and had an absolute blast. The food was solid, view was amazing, and the employees working there were very customer service oriented. One downside was the disconnect when checking in...only because we reserved an open room view yet they had us down for the opposite. We then had to "prove" this mistake had occurred by pulling up our billing from VacationExpress. The only other sour experience was when our reservation to Tulum was handled. The tour guide came in with his list of names to hop on the bus and never called our name and was rude when we inquired as to what could have happened. After finding out our name was in fact on the list and simply misspelled, we were furious. The hotel staff did a superb job in helping us get in contact with VacationExpress who was the third party reservation company we booked through. It would be nice for the hotel to find a way to eliminate these situations from happening somehow with improved communication to these companies. The pool area was great along with trivia, the music, sushi bar, and especially loved the beach pool with bar facing the ocean...beautiful. We would definitely go back again.
"Amazing Vacation. ..again!"
We spent 7 amazing days at the Omni Cancun... for the second time! The first time was in 2015 for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had such a great time we returned for my husband's birthday in October 2017. There's a wide array of food choices. The staff is very professional and accommodating. The beach is impeccable. The nightclub was very convenient and a ton of fun. I highly recommend the Omni and plan on returning in the near future!
"First Trip to Mexico"
This was my first time to Mexico and it was amazing overall. The hotel was great, was upgraded to a nicer/ocean view room for a minimal charge. Everyone was so nice and hospitality was great overall. Things I liked-- -LaVista is their best restaurant handsdown for dinner -Sushi bar and the Mexican restaurant were good/easy for lunch by the pool -Different pools /lots of room/chairs to be able to lay out. Never felt crowded -DO THE Albatros/catamaran excursion. SO fun and so cool to see Isla Mujeres -Breakfast choices were good -Always felt safe -Lady who made the reservations in the lobby was awesome and so helpful. Gave us a lot of recommendations for other restaurants in the area and would make reservations for us Things I DID NOT like-- **This is why I'm giving it four stars-- DO NOT FALL FOR GETTING A VILLA TOUR UNLESS YOU ARE HONESTLY OPEN TO SPENDING MONEY/PUTTING DOWN $9000+. They say if you just check out the villas/timeshare program they have, you'll get 50% off all the excursions and massages (you can get these cheaper than their half off price through expedia/other places). The lady who gave us the tour (Karen I think) was very good at her job and did not make us feel any pressure to buy into the villas. When we were done she brought us to their office to talk to her boss (Pepe), after we said no for the second time they brought ANOTHER guy who was SO RUDE. Once we told him no, he said get your stuff you signed up for and go. He never said thank you/did not shake our hands. Probably the only rude person I encountered in Mexico. Basically we did the tour for no reason because we ended up doing the excursion through a different company *which is in the hotel..... -I was not aware of making reservations for the restaurants beforehand, so by the time we got to the hotel from the airport it was too late to make a reservation that night, then the next day they were booked day of because one of them was closed. Everyone raved about Davinci.... I am not too picky, but most of it tasted like airplane food. Scallops were small and smelly. Steak was cooked fine but had no taste.
