"A great desilusion!"
This is considered a 5 star hotel in Prague center. It costs normaly around 300€ per night. Many problems around The entry to the hotel was in “construction”, arriving by taxi to the hotel is not easy with a very strange entrance through a restaurant... Anybody to help us with the luggage' Don’ t expect so! Our luck was the taxi driver... The reception very small and without any privacy, where you can hear all other clients complains and questions... People in the reception less polite than other cheaper hotels in Prague. They made me a “upgrade” to a suite palace garden... What was that' A big room with a kitchnete ( what a atypical thing in a palace room) , dark with views direct to the front Smetana building hotel... No garden! The only “ flowers” you could see from our window were other hotel clients in their own rooms: any privacy! The air conditioning' Not working inside the room, just in the hall to the bathroom. I asked for help. Apeared a man who worked In reception not very educated or polite, saying that of course the AC was broken in the room and he was going to send someone in the next day....! Was he joking' Outside was anomaly hot afternoon (30 degrees celsius) and I had booked one only night... I imediatly said to him that I did not accept the answer and that I wanted to change the upgraded room to the normal room I had reserved. Imediate answer: we are fullybooked! So I imediatly said that in that hotel I will not sleep. I phone to the reception telling all these things and my anger with all that , taking in mind that of course the hotel was not fullybooked because there were several types of rooms avaiable through internet... So they answered me that in matter of fact they were not fullybooked and they were going to find for me a nice room in 5 min. I took a bath... But probably who designed that bathroom never took a shower there... In the final of a 7 min shower I had water in the floor all over the bathroom! What an unconfortable thing for a five star hotel...it reminds me more a kind of a student hostel... I went dinner outside without knowing nothing about the other room for me When I arrived after midnight I had the “good room “ prepared for me... Another very big room but again very hot ( temperature inside more then 27 degrees) the AC switched off and very weak for the size of the room. Luckly the weather was changing and was a cold night where I could lower down the temperature of the room oppening all the room windows. The breakfast , a great desilusion: no expresso coffe ( free inside the room!), no milk, no fruit, just a bread basket and an orange can juice!!! In matter of fact I expected some discount in the final bill, in that kind of hotel it should be like that if the client is not happy... But I was charged with the total amount, wich I payed. With so many nice offers in Prague I really don t recommend this “5 star” Hotel.
"Lovely room. great location"
Lovely big comfortable bedroom and huge living room with a well stocked bathroom and complimentary coffee/tea selection. The staff were very kind and friendly. We ate in one night and the food was delicious as was breakfast. Try the Eggs Benedict as they are delicious. We booked a day long tour through the concierge which was excellent and the location is brilliant - all the sights are within an easy stroll. We would stay again but would ask for a river view next time.
"Fantastic location, friendly service, needs a few touches to be 5-star"
Was at the Pachtuv Palace/Smetana Hotel in May for 4 days while in Prague for business. The hotel is lovely. However, because of the construction to their entry, finding an entrance to the hotel can be a bit tricky, especially late at night with the cafe connected to the hotel is closed. The reception staff is very friendly and efficient. Pretty crazy to put an authorization hold on my credit card for the full amount of the stay, but clearly they have been burned in the past and now require this today. My room was quite large and overlooked the river, which made the experience at Pachtuv/Smetana even better. The toilet was on the other side of the room from the shower/sink area, strange but you get used to it quickly (yes, there is a sink in the room with the toilet). The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. I appreciated having an electrical adapter provided in the room. The bed/mattress is super comfortable and the AC works very well. I appreciated having the Nespresso maker in the room...and the fact the Nespresso pods were replenished daily. The chocolates left on my coffee table were also a nice touch. The scented pods for the shower are a delightful touch and I loved how large and soft the towels were...and especially appreciated the heated towel rack. Finally, while my room overlooked the river and a busy street, because of the double set of double-pane windows, there was minimal traffic noise. Because the room faced west, I had a wonderful sunset in the evenings as well. The complimentary wifi throughout the hotel is appreciated. Better still, the signal strength is good and allowed me to easily use my office VPN throughout the day/night. That is a big benefit for any business traveler. My nits about the hotel are small, but significant, items which keep it from being a 5-star in my opinion. -It can be confusing to find your room; room numbering is not intuitive. -Service in the cafe for breakfast is slow and generally less than friendly; the first morning I was there it took more than 15 minutes to get served...and the cafe was less than half full. -Turn down service is lovely, but at 5:00 pm, with a room overlooking the river, I would have enjoyed the view of the river longer in the evening (sunset after 9:00 pm while I was there). -Duvet and cover were soft and comfortable, but shorter than the bed itself. I am not a tall person, but my fee stuck out of the bottom of the duvet when it was pulled up to my chin. -The desk chair was not convenient to use for typing at the desk. It was nice looking but not adjustable. My business colleague in another room complained of the chair being way too short for him...and it was definitely too low for me to type/work comfortable. -The electrical plugs near the work desk were plentiful, but because of their location required extensive crawling around on the floor to plug in my laptop and other devices. -Finally, the bathtub is lovely and large, but if using it for a shower, be careful stepping in/out of the tub; it is at least 1 meter above the floor to get over the lip of the tub plus the tub lacks "no slip" strips inside, making it very dangerous to enter/exit. Would I stay at Pachtuv/Smetana again' Yes, I would. But with just a few tweaks, this could easily be the best hotel in Prague. Today, it is simply above average.
"Very good hotel with excellent location."
I think the previous review if I may quote it sums all up, satisfying but not stunning. Breakfast could be improved, very basic continental, but with extra ordering still was just okay. Staff and housekeeping are superb. Location more than makeup for the restaurant and a very nice cigar lounge if would use it.
"5 days in Prague"
Just spent 5 nights in Pachtuv Palace, Prague - fabulas room (bedroom, bathroom, sitting room, 2nd toilet, vaulted ceilings) plenty of room to spread out, nice shower. Was great to come back to after busy day being tourists. Free breakfast very basic but other options were great - delicious omelette great porridge etc. Inner courtyard lovely setting for evening glass of wine. Perfectly situated for short walk to Charles Bridge, tram stops, numerous squares with great eateries. If you are looking for something a little upmarket, centrally placed & very relaxing then this is it. Really enjoyed our stay.
