"Love love love"
I have fallen in love with this resort. Our villa was outstanding. I Was blown away with the incredible service provided at Phum Baitang! They organised all our tours, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the resort itself was breathtaking. Great location. We will definitely be back again! Our tuk tuk driver Rotha was provided by resort and he was so kind, accomodating and the only tuk tuk with free wifi which made it great to capture and share our travels with family at home! Highly recommended.
"Peaceful with excellent food"
From check-in to sunset G&T everything is fresh clean and meticulously done. No worries about food or personal safety. Spa is as good as eSpa, W, Oberoi etc. Dave the F&B manager seems to be of Michelin star French cuisine trained. Don't miss the mashed potatoes with tenderloin or the grilled veggies.
Having traveled the world and staying in some incredible hotels, this hotel is at the top of our list. It is knowing where to begin with the compliments we wish to pay. Everything had been considered and thought about, customer service was exemplary without being intrusive. The general manger, David, made it his business to go the extra mile to take care of every guest personally and on a daily basis. All of the staff were professional, polite and caring ensuring that guests have an exceptional experience. The accommodation is spacious, clean and luxurious. The food was delicious and of Michelin star quality. Thank you everybody, especially Patti and her team for ensuring our adventure was the best it could be. There are too many staff to mention but we are eternally grateful to you for helping us build so many memories.
"Field of Tranquillity"
I will just be talking about my experience and impressions for dinner and drinks as this was highly recommended by a friend who lives in Siem Reap. I made an on-day reservation (highly recommended) and they called back to confirm as promised (which was a good sign - I like hoteliers that keep to their word). We were not disappointed and it made for a perfect end to our break. The resort is located in a secluded 8 acre compound about 10-15 minutes outside the city - our driver got a bit lost as the entrance was hard to locate but it wasn't a big deal. Look for the wooden door. We headed straight for the cigar and cocktail lounge for a few drinks, and to observe the sunset over the paddy fields. We were not disappointed. This was a slice of heaven after the hustle and bustle of the city and trampling around the sights of Siem Reap. The barman was superb. He created what the best Old Fashioned I've had in a very long time. But what rocked was the next drink - called The Bacon ($8) - a refreshing flavour burst of umami goodness - freshly cooked bacon dripping in maple syrup, still warm, laid atop a dry-ish whisky cocktail. One drink turned into another... we were almost late for dinner in Hang Ten. Luckily, we picked a night that was not busy - as it wasn't a weekend and the start of the slow season. I think what truly stood out were the ladies and gentlemen working here - a gracious blend of Cambodian cultural deference, with an eye for international luxury service - friendly, unobtrusive, unhurried yet efficient. In any other place, we would have paid more than double for the meal and drinks we had. This was a nicely done blend of dishes using international and local ingredients - nothing was out of place and like the best meals, everything worked well together. We were going to pass on dessert, as we were replete - but we enjoyed the chocolate tart anyway - thanks to the manager. It was worth the extra calories. This leisurely dinner rolled on into the evening - we were loath to leave the lush paddyfields, water buffalo behind and the sound of cicadas in the night. Having opened a number of hotels for an international luxury brand in Asia, this resort, scored highly on both facilities and it people. I would have been proud to have opened this resort. We will be back for the villas. Thank you for making our last evening rock on our first visit to Siem Reap!
Let me begin by saying that I have never posted anything on Trip Advisor or any other travel blog before....ever. But, our experience at Phum Baitang was so fabulous, that I feel compelled to share it. Admittedly, my husband and I are very picky travelers. Actually, that's sugar coating it. We are extremely particular, and have definitely stayed at some truly stellar properties throughout world. But, this is in a league of its own. We stayed at Phum Baitang at the end April, for three nights, as part of a three week vacation through SE Asia. Like most of the region at this time of year, Siem Reap was extremely hot and humid. It is an exciting place, and we truly enjoyed it. But, the center of town can also be a bit of a sensory overload. Phum Baitang is less than 10 minutes to the main drag, and we were so happy and relieved that it was away from the commotion. It truly was an oasis in every sense of the word. The property is designed as a replica of a traditional Cambodian/Khmer village, complete with a working farm. Each villa looks like a traditional house, with rice patties growing and water buffalo wondering around. Yet, the property is still totally modern, chic and luxurious. Everything, and I mean everything is so well thought out. It feels more like a private estate, than a hotel. Between the architecture, the landscaping, and the interior design, you feel like you are a guest at a super chic, exotic compound you would see in Architectural DIgest. We stayed in a pool villa, and it was beyond spacious and well appointed. The aesthetic is very warm with lots of wood, and muted tones. Very understated, yet so stylish and beyond comfortable. The beds were awesome. Slept so peacefully, and the bathrooms, were huge. I mean ginormous. Plush, yummy, soft towels. Big tub, and an enormous separate shower with amazing water pressure. That last part may sound silly. But, there is something to be said for a powerful shower, especially after days touring in the tremendous heat (and sweating in places you did not think existed). Speaking of which, we got up one morning at 4am to watch sunrise at Angkor Wat and tour the Angkor Complex (FYI- so worth the wake up call...a must). The evening before, we asked if we might be able to get some coffee and tea to go, for our excursion. When we arrived at the reception area at 4:45am, there were several staff members waiting for us, with fresh coffee and tea, to go cups, and a breakfast packed and ready as well, which we didn't even ask for. Even the paper bag it was in, was stylsih, and the food was simple, delicious and perfect. It was exactly what I would have wanted to eat, if I had actually thought to make the request. As we would continue to realize throughout our stay, the staff seems to know what you need before you, and whatever they do is presented beautifully. We loved to hang at the main pool in the afternoons, when we were finished exploring the sights. So relaxing, peaceful and scenic. Loved the spa as well. Think I had the absolute best massage of my life. Not kidding. Lomphat was a pint size miracle worker. Cocktails before dinner in the bar off the reception area was such a treat. Gorgeous space and the view of the rice patties at sunset was hypnotic. That terrace is magic. Samrech, the bartender, is a master mixologist, and he makes everyone that enters his domain feel so special. We miss his warm, big smile and his Aloe Vera Margharitas. Honestly, the entire staff will have you at hello, goodbye and everything in between. Our stay at Phum Baitang was such a treat. Total zen. Colin, you and your team are superb. It was an unforgettable experience. Thank you for making our first trip to Siem Reap so unique and special. Phum Baitang really is a wonder....like Angkor Wat.
