This was a normal Radisson Blu hotel with nice reception area upon arrival and friendly helpful staff. Check in was easy and quick but did not appreciate the receptionist pointing out, twice, that my Club Carlson level had dropped so I was not eligible to an upgrade, even though I did not ask for it. When I got to the room I was surprise to be given a king bed as I was requested two beds as I was staying with my teenage son. When I retuned to reception I was met by the receptionist with a new card as he realised his mistake. Room was clean, tidy and had everything we needed but the A/C was a waste of time. We left it on all day at ax chill but when we returned we had to open the windows to attempt to cool the room even though t was 24 deg C outside. This persisted all weekend so we had to sleep with the windows fully open even though the external temp reached 29 in an attempt to cool the room. Other comments would be with regard to the bar where a small glass of local beer cost €5.50 where as a 0.5l cost €2.50 in most local bars. Location is good if you are prepared to walk, use public transport or take a taxi into the centre of town. For us it was a very nice walk
"A nice hotel, but …"
I spent 3 nights in Radisson Blue Hotel in Cologne on the occasion of an international conference held at Koeln Messe. The hotel is a little bit far from the Cologne city center so it takes 20 minutes at least to get downtown however it is really a nice walk and the nicest part of it is passing the famous Hohenzollern bridge. The hotel is nice, clean and well maintained. I liked the stylish interior design, especially modern public areas. The room was nice and comfortable, with enough space for two persons. We had everything we needed. I was glad to find a mini bar, coffee/tea making faciities, iron and ironing board in my room. The bathroom is simple but quite elegant. The location of my room on a second floor was perfect. Although the room was overlooking the road I didn’t hear any noise during the night and slept well. The breakfast was very good and I liked very much the presentation of food. Unfortunately there was something, regarding our stay, we definitely didn’t like: the contact at the front desk on our arrival which actually makes the first impression. During the check-in process a young woman was not polite and not professional. When we insisted we had pre-paid for our stay (this happened in case of two separate reservations) she was of a different opinion and unable to get the correct information so we unnecessarily had to contact our company to get the confirmation. This absolutely shouldn’t have happened in case of a classy hotel and at this level of prices (the hotel is rather expensive)!
"Well located to attend the messe, but a little lonley around"
I just stayed in the Radisson Blue at Cologne for the Final Four event. And it is a great hotel if you are attending the Messe: rooms are quiet and comfortable, everything works the way it should be, staff is very kind and approachable, and the breakfast is a very nice one. The only thing in the downhill side is that it is apart from the tourism side of the town, so there are not a lot of options to go our for a quick dinner or a lunch. You need to walk around 15 minutes, and about half an hour to reach the downtown. It is still a very good option to stay in.
"Many technical issues"
Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights for a conference. The hotel is in good location near Coelmesse but not close to the city center. Although it provides all the facilities of a luxury stay I didn’t have such an experience. When I return to the hotel the first night I noticed that the TV remote was not working at all. I called the reception and stated the problem but no one cared. So at 3.50 in the morning the TV started to make an annoying sound (bipping) all the time. Called again the reception and somebody came up but couldn’t fix the problem. So after 5 minutes another fellow came, unlocked the power supply locker and pulled the tv cable offline. Meaning that I lost my sleep after a very difficult day with another difficult day waiting. The receptionist apologized and asked me if they could offer me the breakfast. Kind enough. The strange thing is that the next day when I returned in the afternoon they still hadn’t fix the problem. That was really annoying. Again asked the reception to fix it and after an hour they did finally. They apologized again. So, the last but not least was when we tried to print our boading passes. No printer could print. We asked for the receptionist help. Again they apologized. Couldn’t fix it. Finally send our boarding passes to them to print them for us… In general very good breakfast, nice and enjoyable rooms, nice bar.
"Great location for exhibition centre, but getting tired "
The hotel has a great location if your visiting an exhibition. The hotel is now in need of a refurbishment as rooms are getting tired. Since the breakfast was changed it has declined in quality. Like always you can expect the room keys to fail at least once if your staying more than three nights. I stayed with a group and between our 9 rooms nobody had a hot shower all week. The bar staff closed the bar in the evening half way through our groups order as we were discussing food options with one other member of staff.
