"Downtown San Diego"
Close enough to train station, little Italy, marine booardwalk , gas lamp district & supermarkets . They have small pool and sunbathing area with deck chairs. Room is clean spacious enough and there is a coffee / tea station. Bar fridge for keeping your basics. There is a gym , no real heavy stuff but you could get by with a little innovation. Restaurant serves breakfast lunch & dinner.
"Do not stay here!!!!"
Maybe June 2018 give this hotel a chance but until then stay far far away. Everything they advertise is under construction. Even their 'bar area/restaurant' in the lobby is like a cheap diner ...the gym, pool and roof top bar do not exist. And for an area that closes at 10pm they offer nothing to do. This hotel is horrible...spend the extra money and stay at the Marquis. Marriott should be ashamed that their name is on this dump.
"About 20% of what hotel advertises is on offer."
I chose to stay in this hotel as it had a rooftop bar, pool and gym, amongst other things. It is undergoing a refurb which basically means there is no lobby, all the restaurant and bar area is now a makeshift kind of café, and the amenities advertised are not available. The gym was open the first day I was there, and then found out it was closed the next day as they are refurbing that too. There was no notice about any of this happening in advance, and the hotel is still advertising the roof bar (which I think it going to be closed all summer). So you're paying premium price for a room only, and a breakfast set-up you'd find in a Holiday Inn. Not cool.
"Nice hotel, good location"
We've had a nice stay. The room was airy and roomy and clean and we had a nice view. The hotel is conveniently located and you can walk everywhere. They have valet parking but there are parkings nearby as well. We didn't have breakfast but we did have drinks at the rooftop bar (which is on the 2nd floor so don't expect a view of the city). Drinks were very good and the ambiance was nice. There are a lot of restaurants, bars ,shops and sights nearby. Would recommend staying at this hotel. Wifi isn't free though.
"BEWARE CONSTRUCTION ZONE. DO NOT STAY HERE"
I was surprised when I arrived at the hotel to learn that the hotel is under significant construction. There is no lobby. There is basically no restaurant. There is no lobby bar. The "rooftop bar" (on the second floor) was closed. The business center is a desk in the make-shift lobby. Not acceptable! I cannot invite business associates to a hotel with these kinds of shortcomings! The fitness room is an affront to fitness rooms and has virtually no equipment. The hotel pool is very small. Admittedly, the recently renovated rooms are nice, although noisy (you hear the guests in rooms above and around you fairly clearly). Location is on the fringe of most everything- Gas Lamp, Little Italy, downtown business district- although still within walking and trolley service distance. Rumors are that this hotel might be shifting to an Autograph Collection property. Overall service was moderate and certainly not noteworthy. Until the construction project is COMPLETE do not stay at this property. After construction I will return and will consider updating my review. In the meantime, there are plenty of better options for the price, including the nearby Westin if you are a Marriott/SPG loyalist. Not sure why the hotel cannot post on its website regarding the construction. Very disappointing to have to learn this for the first time upon arrival.
