Room Mate Mario is 7 minute walk from the famous Puerta del Sol, 50 metres from the Ópera Metro station. Moreover, the famous 'Triangle of Art' (Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen) is just 5 minutes from the hotel.
Room Mate Mario boasts an excellent location very close to many attractions of Madrid: the Ópera House, the Royal Palace, the Gran Vía and the Plaza Mayor.
Very central location. Staff extremely helpful. Breakfast - basic hot & cold selection but plentiful. Would definitely stay here again if coming back to Madrid.Comment of D. Paula , United Kingdom the 2015-09-23
Excellent position and breakfast. Will recommend.Comment of B. Derek , Spain the 2015-07-31
What is there not to like' Great, helpful reception staff always willing to advise and reserve wherever and whenever, clean rooms, good breakfast, excellent location. Would definitely use again if going to Madrid. Loved the city (after 30 +years of last visit).. buzzing yet relaxed... great food,,plenty to see and enjoy... the Retiro, the art, the palace (free after 4pm)... and of course, if have time, the area around. Segovia!!!! trains running as they should (even if train station is miles away..2E on bus to centre or 8E in taxi (shared between 4 is a no-brainer).
"Amazing Spanish experience "
Staying in Room Mate Mario has been a great experience, this gorgeous hotel is located a few steps away from the Spanish Royal Palace and the main areas in the Spanish Capital. I will always remember this hotel because of its staff......
"Fab location with great staff, good value breakfast, strange bathroom"
We booked a short trip to Madrid and wanted to stay in the heart of the city, this is very well located a minute away from the opera house and a few mins from the royal palace. You can walk to great bars and restaurants within 10 minutes. We walked to all the tourist areas but the metro is a minute away and easy to use. The hotel staff are really great, friendly and efficient. We booked an executive room which means you have a Juliet balcony looking onto the street. The street can be a little noisy and we travelled a little off season. The room itself was adequate and clean good for a short stay the only thing to mention is the bathroom being a frosted glass cubicle in the room and the hand basin on the other side of the room which is a bit strange. We have been married for a long time so not too worried about this but not all would be comfortable with the arrangement. I am not sure if the bathrooms are all the same so check beforehand. We included the breakfast which is very good value, simple plentiful and fresh. The dining area is fairly basic but perfectly fine. This not a luxury hotel but for the cost and where it is located I would recommend. Just check the bathroom set up!
"Small room but good location"
As having stayed at another Room Mate hotel in Amsterdam, which was just short of awesome, I suppose I my expectations were a little high and I was disappointed at first with my room. It was rather small and dark, with no view to speak of (one floor up, facing other windows.) However, it was nicely designed with cute touches (jelly beans, tote bag to borrow, Room Mate toiletries.) The bathroom was modern/new with a bathtub. There was a closet with some drawers, not just clothes hangers. But I would say the room was more just a place to rest in - felt a bit like a dorm. I didn't spend any real time in the lobby, but it looked cool and the staff was very congenial. Pleasant breakfast room with lots of food. The location was perfect. Quiet area but also very near palace and a pedestrian street/shopping zone (Calle del Arenal) that will take you to Puerto del Sol. There's a grocery store right next door, and taxi stand/metro stop literally a minute's walk. Also, a Burger King, which as an American, I appreciated when I needed something to drink with plenty of ice!
"Hip and modern yet quiet"
Room Mate Mario is fantastic ! In what is probably one of the smaller hotels in Madrid, we had the largest room we have ever had in Europe ! The room was clean and comfy. Modern, quirky decor. Very convenient to the metro and just walking through the center of Madrid. Everyone at the hotel was very pleasant. Nice breakfast buffet spread. I will always stay at the Room Mate hotels when I can !
