"Nice decor and location, service and detail not quite as good"
So, stayed here for a company business event, and having not been to Miami before, had high expectations for location and accomodation. As it goes, the decor is typically art deco style, befitting the region, with different accomodation styles. I stayed in the older apartment blocks, which I actually liked. A nice feeling. However some of the power sockets didn't work, some light switches did nothing, phones didn't work and some patchy decor in the bathroom. That said, liked the feel of the place. As for service, very different aspects. We had on site catering, which was done very well, and the server, Julia, was excellent. However, front desk, not as good. Appreciate they may get busy, but I explicitly asked for more laundry bags on arrival, as I assumed 1 in the room, to be told, no there are plenty in the room, don't need to get you any more, etc. Actually, there were not multiple in the room and only 1 as expected. So, although a small point I was a bit out out that basically the front desk couldn't be bothered to get me the bags. Especially because I explicitly asked. So, I went back, got another clerk and they did it straight away. Not a good start to the stay. Facilities are pretty good, although the gym is woeful. Right on the beach, so great location.
"No thanks - never again"
I gave 2 stars for the staff. Now to the room, ocean view, with the breakfast package, but not worth the inconvenience of the small, cramped room. No chair, no desk, only the bed to sit on to get work done. Not ideal by any means. There was a bed, 2 bedside tables which were so close I bumped them each night when turning to change sleep sides. There was a long bench type piece of furniture, I guess it would be called a dresser, for your odds and ends in front of the bed and then the mini fridge which glowed purple at night. There was a notice that if you removed things from the fridge, you would be charged a fee, or something to that effect and also something about paying a restocking fee. I don't appreciate being told about being charged for things before I even get a chance to unpack. Unpacking was no easy chore either in such tight quarters with two of us trying to get past each other between the bed and the dresser. The other thing we found very odd was the hanging space in the closet. It was very short and would not have accommodated a woman's dress or even a pair of trousers hanging from the waist. What is that about' Now to the barn door used as a bathroom door. No privacy at all. Ridiculous idea for a hotel. At one point, our room was not cleaned until well after 4:00 p.m. The Housekeeper said she had all the check out rooms to do. Then, get more staff. That poor woman seemed to be on her own. We were on the 10th floor - ice machine broken on 9, 10 and 11. Great ! This hotel is trying to be trendy, but it fails miserably, in so many ways. There is such a lack of comfort here. The bar is not how it looks in the pictures. Not inviting at all. The plants in the foyer needed a good dusting and we had to wait for over 30 minutes at one point for the concierge to return to the desk. Noone semed to know where she was or how to get hold of her. "oh, probably on a break" - "don't know" So, we will not be staying here again. The only redeeming feature of the place is that the staff are very pleasant, especially when we went to have breakfast. Breakfast buffet was nothing outstanding either. Eggs, eggs with peppers, eggs with ham, plain scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage. Same old, same old. Last, but not least, there is limited sun on the pool. Mostly shade as the day wears on.
"A special place"
The hotel has a long name, which is fitting for a hotel with a long list of positive features. Location is tops. So many restaurants, bars and shops in walking distance in a safe area. The beach is literally behind the hotel. The lobby and sitting areas are different from standard chain hotels. All of the staff are helpful and friendly. Since we hosted an event, we were upgraded to a suite. It was great to have the extra space and terrific view. Room was very clean. Only drawbacks were the bed was comfortable but squeaked getting in or out. The rooms need to have refrigerators available. You can't use the minibar due to the sensors. As far as having an event here, it was ideal. The location and amenities benefit all the guests. The people in charge of the event planning were great to work with. They were flexible regarding room booking and space usage. We were able to use an outside caterer and they coordinated everything with all the contractors. The hotel general manager even checked up on how things were going the day of the event. We had never heard of Tribute Portfolio hotels before planning an event here. But this one has a unique charm, and there must be a good reason that SPG uses the beach photo of Royal Palm in all of this computer banner ads.
"Value for money "
It is has spacious and clean rooms. The food was good quality. The hotel conference room could do with some upgrade on the doors. Too noisy. The rooms are too cold and need to have a better air conditioning control. It was freezing all the time. The rent a charger was a nice and simple experience - useful in the hour of need. Concierge service was very helpful as well. Centrally located. All in all a good and clean hotel.
"For $450 a night you would expect better"
First impressions are everything and so far the Royal Palm is failing. Literally just checked in. In the first 10 mins the following has occurred: - Only one of three elevators works. One door is half open with an alarm going off. 15 people waiting for a single elevator. - Vanity light in the room bathroom is broken - mini fridge doors are broken and thus cannot close so you’ve got the blue light leaking into the room. These aren’t things you’d expect from a $450 a night hotel in Miami Beach. Hopefully management can remedy this and improve on the rest of my stay.
