"Stewfish restaurant is AWESOME!"
We went to this resort one evening for dinner. This review is ONLY about that and not about the resort in general. Stewfish sits right on the beach with the best view of the sunset possible. A very romantic addition to dinner. I ordered the signature dish, the Island Style Brown Stew Fish, even though the name did not sound terribly appetizing to me. I am so glad I did. It was hands down the best fish I have ever eaten. My husband tried my entree, too, and he agreed. I am delighted that we chose that restaurant.
"Another Great Trip to MoBay!"
This was our 4th stay at Sandals Montego Bay. And each time I think we decide we like the resort more than the last. We’re Sandals Select Diamond level returning guests and we’ve been to nearly every resort in the Sandals chain. Sandals Montego Bay is our “go-to” resort when we take a short trip of 5 days or less, given that it’s less than a 10 minute ride from MBJ. In this case, we stayed 5 nights, May 5-10. We booked a beachfront oversized butler villa suite (category BB). When I filled out the butler preferences form after making final payment, I specifically requested to be in building 9 or 12, near the swim up pool/piano bar. When we arrived, we were happy to find we were booked in building 9, Room 951. We don’t typically book butler level room categories unless it’s a really good deal. In this case, we booked during a previous stay at Sandals so we received an additional 12% off by booking a butler category room while on-property. We booked butler level because it was a short stay and we were travelling with my parents, so we wanted to ensure we could get reservations at the restaurants we wanted with the times we wanted. We arrived to Jamaica on an early flight out of Charlotte. We landed a little after 10 a.m. and were through customs in less than 5 minutes, without Club MoBay. After many trips to Jamaica, it’s my opinion that if you arrive before 11 a.m., especially on a weekday, Club MoBay is not necessary because lines are not yet too long at the airport. We didn’t spend much time at all in the Sandals lounge. We weren’t even offered a complimentary beverage before being taken to our bus. We waited about 15 minutes on the bus before departing for Sandals. Had the ride been any longer than about 7 minutes, I would have made sure we had a cold beverage before heading out to the bus, but since it was a short trip, I didn’t mind too much. We arrived at Sandals by about 11 a.m. Our room wasn’t yet ready, but we were prepared for that. If you arrive early, have a bathing suit and sunscreen easily accessible (either in carry on, or ask to be taken back to your luggage to get what you need). Our butler Stevan met us and gave us a brief tour to show us all the updates to the resort since we’d last been there. He took us over to the swim up pool and told us he’d let us know when our room was ready. We were happy when he showed back up by about 1:30 and took us to our room. Our room was much like the pictures on the website reflected. It’s not yet updated, but it was spacious and the bathroom was huge with a huge walk in shower and separate jetted tub. We spend so little time in the room, it’s not typically something we think too much about during our stays. My parents arrived later that afternoon and found they had been upgraded from a basic room in the Seagrapes building to a newly remodeled walkout room in the Almonds building. The updated room, especially the spacious shower, was very nice. I want to mention how awesome our butlers, Stevan and Marvin, were! We couldn’t have asked for a better pair. The two of them work together like a well-oiled machine. They asked our dinner preferences upon arrival and made sure they were set up flawlessly, even when we asked to change our dining times slightly. Every day they set up chairs for us near the swim up pool with a cooler of water and beers, because they knew we liked that spot (including my parents, which was well above and beyond what we expected or asked them to do). We are pretty easy going with our requests, in that we didn’t ask them to bring us meals or drinks throughout the day, but both of them were sure to stop by or call throughout the day just to check on us. This allowed us the opportunity to chat with them on a few occasions and get to know more about them, which is really what we prefer when we have butlers. They both surprised us on a couple of different occasions with afternoon snacks and treats in the room, and lovely and romantic bedroom decorations and beautifully decorated baths. Additionally, we celebrated my birthday on the trip and they made sure to leave birthday wishes at our reserved sunbeds and also presented me a birthday card at dinner! You can tell they are both experienced butlers and really want to ensure their guests are happy. They were 1000% successful! And if we get a butler room at MoBay again, we’ll be sure to request them. During our stay we were able to eat dinner in all the a la carte restaurants. We all enjoyed Stewfish and most of our party ordered steak and shrimp. I had the chicken. At Oleandar, we all ordered steak and enjoyed our meals. Same for Bayside. One good thing for steaklovers-there is some cut of steak on the menu at every restaurant except Tokyo Joes, but you can get steak included in as part of your Asian creation. During dinner at Oleander and and Bayside, we were fortunate enough to have Ricardo as our server both nights, back to back. He is a wonderful server and we had a great time joking and laughing with him. At my birthday dinner, he brought out dessert with a candle and sang to me! We also saw him working at the beach party on Monday night and he went out of his way to come over and say hi to us! He’s a great guy! Because we were only there 5 nights, we didn’t attend the buffet at the beach party Monday night, but made sure we had early reservations so we could still catch the evening entertainment. We also skipped the Sandals Return Guest Dinner on Tuesday, which we may have regretted a bit. We snuck a peak at the menu and it looked amazing. It was also an intimate crowd, which seems to be rare these days at return guest dinners. We also never made it over to Royal Caribbean for a day trip or dinner. My husband and I stayed there last year for the first time (we’ve visited on other occasions while at MoBay). In comparison, we much prefer Sandals Montego Bay. It just seems more lively to us, both during the day and at night. As for daytime activities, we didn’t participate in much because we’d often spend afternoons over at the swim up pool, while most of the activities were centered around the main pool. There was one bright sunny afternoon where the Playmakers and DJ made their way over to the swim up pool and played music and danced and played “name that slogan”. Part of the reason there wasn’t a lot of daytime activity around the swim pool might have been because we had 2 ½ days of rain during out stay. We can’t fault Mother Nature, but we’ve vacationed in May to Jamaica on other occasions and never run into weather like that. It’s ok, we made the best of it and still had fun in the covered area inside the swim up bar or down at the main bar when it was raining, especially with the bartenders Dane, Jermaine, and Andrew! They were always a ton of fun and allowed us to turn on our Bluetooth speaker and play reggae and dancehall tunes. We had a great time hanging with them throughout our trip. Because the weather wasn’t great, we only went out snorkeling one day. Snorkeling was ok, but we’ve experienced better in other parts of MoBay, but wind and waves limited where we could go. We also did the glass bottom boat ride the same day we snorkeled. It’s very interesting to hear all the info the captain provides while you get to view coral and some oceanlife. We also enjoyed getting to know many of the evening bartending crew as well. Kimalie in Cricketers Pub is a hoot! He makes some very interesting shots, including rainbow shots, and he has always got a good story or joke to tell! At the main bar, Nicholas always has a smile on his face and is so attentive! And lastly, a special thank you to Shannon at the piano bar in the evenings. He knew my husband and I’s drinks in no time at all and always had them waiting when he saw us coming. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with him about DJ’ing and all the latest Dancehall. He even made us a couple of CDs to take home and listen to. Thanks Shannon! The resort looks amazing and they are still working to improve it more….pardon their construction, it’s really not that bad, you can always find a spot to get away from it, and it’s only going to make the resort even better! All in all, another great trip to MoBay and we’ll be back!
"ok if you like inclusives"
My husband and I decided to try this place since we've never been to an all inclusive resort or to Jamaica. I can't say I was impressed. While we have a few drinks here and there, the need for a bar to be in our room was not necessary. There wasn't much to the beach and the pools were on the small side. I didn't like that they scheduled us for a photo session without asking us if we even wanted it. We paid for a private dinner which was supposed to have a bottle of champagne included but it did not and we didn't get reimbursed for it, even after I told them about it. The location of this property isn't that great either. It's so close to the airport we could see the runway from our room, needless to say, it was very loud when the planes flew over us. There isn't much to do around the resort either. It's a 2 hour drive at least to get to any of the attractions of Jamaica. I like to go out and explore the places I visit. When we were there, they had a lot of weddings going on, in my opinion, that's what they cater to, people getting married there. One cocktail hour was right outside our balcony. The music was so loud, we couldn't hear ourselves talk! The food was ok for the most part, I can't say any of it was great. The last night we were there we ate at the restaurant on the beach because we were mistakenly told we would be able to eat in the dining room only to be turned away for a wedding. Because it rained a lot that day, the mosquitos ate us up. My husband said he was getting bitten through his shirt! Needless to say, if I ever go back to Jamaica, I won't be staying at this or probably any other Sandals resort.

"Love this resort!"
We just returned from a ten day stay, 7 MoBay/3 nights at the Inn. Had dinner at Oleanders twice enjoying the absolute best service from Peter and our server Robert! They are awesome, ask for them if you can. The food was very enjoyable. A shout out to Kayon and Javell at Bayside. Ate breakfast there for most of our stay. Kayon presented us with special mimosas, very yummy! She was such a pleasure and always had a smile. Javell was very attentive always chatted with us in the morning and brought us whatever we needed. Again always a smile and so personable! He would like to become a bartender at the main bar. Our room was very nice, club level beachfront grand luxe. Only issue was the pillows. Worst pillows I have had. I asked for another one, it was like a tempurpedic (sp) I don't care for those. 😁 Our stay was wonderful and will be back! Looking forward to all the renovations!
