"The ultimate Thai heaven "
I loved this place since the day one. They truly know how to pamper their guests. The hotel area is pristine and the rooms have amazing views. The food ranges from traditional Thai to seafood pizza and western offerings. The spa offers the best massage with an amazing view to the beach. I would definitely recommend and come back to Santhiya Koh Phangan!
"Blissful jungle seclusion"
We stayed here for two weeks during July-August this year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. At the time there were more staff than guests, and you could tell. Countless hard working staff were in attendance for every imaginable task including tidying up sandals when people entered breakfast rooms. The attention to detail was pretty good all round. A lot of thought and development has gone into making this resort the ultimate place for guests to relax, this permeates the atmosphere and vibe. We found that we wound down very quickly. The setting is stunning, from arrival by speedboat (very Bond), the jungle, the overall layout and design, the beautiful pool and surrounds, to the traditional design and build of all buildings, balconies, pathways and bridges, even the cute fake-wood stickered transport vans which are to help older people travel to their rooms up the steep hills around the resort. The cooking is 99% absolutely excellent. This includes the freshly cooked food of which there’s plenty at both breakfast and dinner - another plus. The resort is set right in a jungle meaning insects would normally thrive, but the resort employs timetabled resort-wide lemongrass fumigation 3 times a week which isn’t intrusive to guests, and really does appear to work. We saw very few (1 or 2) big scary insects although we inevitably got mosquito bitten at times, usually due to missing a spot. Highlights for this resort include: -The seclusion of the resort from the manic main Ko Samui island -The view from restaurant - and most places -The food - especially parathas and breakfast waffles -The pool and waterfall -The cool and peaceful library -Great selection of cocktails + happy hour = fill yer boots! -The on-site Thai massage rooms and experience (if you're "asking for a mate" no, there's no "happy ending") -The Ang Thong tour, mountaintop view and lunch was brilliant. -Beach 3* and shop (see hints) -Aussie tour guide Shane who is an asset to the resort, very helpful and full of interesting local information. -Resort food is hygienically prepared in terms of the human aspect as cooking staff all wear face masks There are not many downsides to this resort, it is pretty stunning. However if nitpicking: Cons: -The breakfast cereal selection only offered sweet options and those lacking in fibre, and overall thai food -whilst very easy to eat- can eventually become a little overwhelming with its sweetness, and after 2 weeks we both started to crave vegetables and started eating more dinner-style curries and rice during breakfast to try and offset this. -The beach setting is beautiful however the water is clearly (or not!) very dirty - a great shame, perhaps to do with the hotel’s waste management approach combined with the amount of local boat traffic. -In-hotel prices such as bar drinks are like at most resorts vastly overpriced. -The speedboat driver drove too fast - we are youngish and really enjoyed the trip TO the resort and on the day trips we did, but on the RETURN trip to Ko Samui, we and the others on board found the driver was quite inconsiderate in his choice of velocity across rough seas. He was clearly enjoying himself so I guess he kind of forgot about landlubbers. After that trip a rodeo ride wouldn't seem like enough of a challenge. Hints: -Take strong insect repellant. -The nearby village offers several wash (and iron) services which are all considerably cheaper than the hotel. -Unless you like it rough, probably go “light” on the Thai massage. -The resort its own small beach (1), then to the right is the main beach (2) - but then further around the bay another beach (3) accessible either via a walk or scoot inland, or speedboat. It’s a fantastic looking beach (although no cleaner than the others) with great views in all directions, and it has a great supermarket with lots of stock, and some cool and different bars well. -Lots of scooter hire availability in the villages. -If you can try and avoid using Nivea sun lotion when snorkelling, it and similar lotions contain an ingredient that damages coral reefs. Difficult I appreciate as Nivea have pretty much cornered the market everywhere.
Firstly the staff here are fantastic! So friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms...oh my goodness the rooms! Amazing! We had a pool access room and it was one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. Stay here if you can- you won't regret it
Just waiting to leave this beautiful resort. The staff are fantastic they are a credit to the hotel. The whole experience has been wonderful. The hideaway villa was exceptional and the surrounding area beautiful. Small village 20 minutes walk away with a few shops and plenty of restaurants all of which are really good. I must say one of the most relaxing holidays we have had.
"Love this place"
Hey what did you think of that drive-in! We transferred to this hotel from kupu-kupu (separate review) and was about 30 minutes to cross the island but the final bit requires you to navigate a single track through several other hotels/resorts so can take some finding. That said it is worth it as the resort enjoys an enviable position which is deceptive. From our sea-view pool villa you would think you had your own lodge in a jungle setting but in fact this is quite a big resort with restaurants and facilities to match. I've got to say there was little to fault the hotel rooms, restaurants, quality, price and choice of food was very good. The main pool is impressive as is the beach front setting. A short walk from the hotel is a number of beach-front hotels and restaurants. This is a very pleasant/laid back resort with very little craziness but enough about it to keep you entertained. We really enjoyed the breakfasts which filled us up for the day. We were happy to eat at the hotel most nights with a good choice of well priced Thai buffets or international cuisine at the beachfront restaurant. To be honest I didn't want to leave my sea view villa. The room was huge with plenty of space for two adults and up to two children. I was impressed with the room we had previously at sea dance and kupu kupu which both had plunge pools however santhiya gives you your very own swimming pool! The ability to retire to your room for drinks/air con and then cool down in the pool is affordable luxury which would cost a pretty penny at many other resorts/countries. In short this resort has it all, great rooms in lovely surroundings, excellent food, great service, and a pleasant local area to explore. Given a choice between this and Kupu Kupu I would have probably extended my stay here but hey you don't know till you try. If you prefer a smaller/boutique hotel then you may prefer somewhere like Kupu Kupu. If you do choose the cheaper suites/swim-up rooms these still look good but are at the top of the resort so you will probably rely on the hotel bus. I would strongly recommend this hotel for all travellers young and old as I feel it will cater well for all.
