"Definitely not Sheraton standard"
I stayed at the hotel for business and had a deplorable experience. The food at the restaurant had absolutely no taste whatsoever. The food offered during the business meeting was inedible and all options were sweet. At the time of checkout there was only one staff member and a group was checking in so I had to wait for quite some time to be able to checkout. When it was finally my turn, one of the guests who had just checked in came back down as their key wasn't working. And to my utter surprise the clerk, Juliomar, just stoped checking me out and started helping the other guest. All my incidentals but alcohol were charged to my company but the clerk told me that was not the case and even when I showed the reservation email he told me I had to pay. Reading other reviews before I wrote mine I realized why these problems happen. Did you also realize that all management replies are a standard copy and paste that don't even give a decent explanation or apology' Hey Starwood! Wake up!
"two separate stays within a couple of weeks"
During my vacation in Brazil, I stayed at the Sheraton de Bahia, Salvador on two separate occasions, three nights prior to leaving for Boipeba Island, and three nights after my return from Boipeba Island. The hotel is a bit dated, but the staff is very helpful and professional. The lobby is very nice and the restaurant and bar areas are very good, too. It can be frustrating in Brazil, because every state and even within the same state, there are no standard sizes for wall plug outlets. Based on internet photos, I came with what appeared to be a matching example for Brazil. The Salvador Sheraton plugs did not match the description, nor did the staff have any wall plugs to match with my Canadian devices. I am not suggesting that it is the hotel’s responsibility, but for a major international hotel chain, they should at least have some wall plugs on hand that they could even “loan” to the hotel guest with a deposit. They rummaged through their desks and even went into offices, to try and find a plug for me, to no avail. The next day, I took my Canadian plugs and showed them to a taxi driver who drove me to a music store, who had the exact wall plugs (extension cords) and connectors that fixed my problem. During my stay in Salvador, the hotel reception staff recommended that I take a night tour of the old town that was primarily a traditional show in a restaurant. I really enjoyed this and thank you hotel! It was pleasant, having a pianist play the lobby grand piano for a nice “ambiance”. Thank you. The laundry service was efficient and the lady spoke perfect English. The polite front desk staff spoke English although the restaurant and bar staff did not converse in English, but I managed anyway. The pool was quite nice, even if a bit old, but it was always very clean. Every morning at 7, I saw the hotel staff out doing a full cleaning job of the water and the pool area. The sun shines on the pool from about 8:00 a.m. until about 2 or 3 p.m. The room was a good quality but I wanted an ocean view room. However, when they showed me the rooms on that side, buildings blocked the view! The airport cab ride was about 150 reals and it is about a one hour drive from the hotel. Things to do' Of course there is the elevator, between upper and lower town. Once you’ve done that, there is no need for a second visit. There is also Mercato Modolo where you can purchase souvenirs. There is a Subway Sandwich franchise across the street from the hotel. I suggest you use caution in crossing the street! In summary, an enjoyable stay, with very courteous helpful front desk, bar, restaurant and pool staff. Very good restaurant and great buffet for breakfast (included in room price). The menu could have a bit larger of a selection, but the food was lovely and nicely prepared. Thank you for a pleasant stay!
"Rare miss SPG"
You can see in most of my reviews that I don't ever rate poorly, I'd rather not rate and go about my business. Here's the issue with doing that, I actually let business travelers like myself find out for them spelled what I could've helped them with. The reason I seek out SPG is because I'm a part of their program and I like it plus it brings a level of familiarity to unfamiliar places. With this Sheraton I was really disappointed. The room was small, dirty, and had bugs all over the shower. I was so exhausted by my travel that I ignored everything I just passed out in bed. On a longer trip I would've checked out and found another hotel (the Intercity where my friend stayed was much nicer for the same price). I hope SPG can figure out how to bring this Sheraton up to their normal high standard. I won't be returning to this hotel.
Comfortable hotel in centre, very few English speaking team at hotel, restaurant is nice, chef made vegetarian dinner for us.needs lot of improvement in communication skills.don't go for club rooms, lounge is lousy n no happy hours.atleast people at reception should speak English.
Right in the middle of town. Great breakfast buffet included in our rate. Staff was helpful, short ride to the lower city. Several buses stop right in front of the hotel. Didn't use the pool but it looked inviting.
