"Surprisingly not as good as I expected. "
We are in Salvador for 3 days and as we read lots of bad stuff about security we decided we needed a good hotel. I've never stayed in a Sheraton before but my expectations were high. I joined the membership scheme and booked a club room with breakfast included. Got off to a good start as were allowed to use room from 10am which was really helpful as we had some tricky stuff to sort due to Latam changing a flight time by 6 hours without telling us. Nice room on 11th floor but odd stuff missing ( no body lotion, no tissues, no spare pillows) - not very important in the way of things but stuff I just expect). We had had a pretty stressful day the day before so just wanted to relax by pool. Just about warm enough. However no staff visible around pool and pool clearly not been cleaned for a day or two. Not to be defeated I still used it and cleared out some of floating leaves etc. Having never used a Sheraton before, I asked about benefits of club room and they just said they are higher up rooms. No mention of club lounge which was mentioned in the website. We found the room on the 12 floor and it is quite nice. On the Friday some nice snacks but on Saturday just abandoned - not even water replaced! Also by around 3 pm on the Saturday (second day) we asked if our room was going to be cleaned. Told to go to reception which we did. Guy seemed surprised, phoned and said it was normal to clean rooms daily. Room was just about cleaned but nothing replaced so had to ask again. In the evening in the restaurant on the first night we asked about al la carte menu - the waiter was very dismissive and shrugged so as to say - why would you ask that - well it said both buffet and al la carte available on website ! Magically, once he asked our room number the service got a bit more friendly. It's an odd hotel - if you happen to find yourself in Salvador then I would still use this hotel but my expectations are lower than they were. Most staff are helpful but the overall management seems poor. Some of toilets in public areas were well below standard and we kept having to ask for stuff. Little if any quality control in evidence. I blame management for this. Overall we got good value but this stay has lowered my esteem for the Sheraton brand rather than enhanced it.
"Nice hotel overall"
Stayed there for a couple of days, nice rooms with good beds and good shower. The restaurant was great also. But the hotel as a whole is nothing extremely luxurious. The mini bar only had water and the staff wasn't as polite as in other hotels.
We stayed here during our visit to Bahia. It was a nice hotel in a good location. The staff at the reception was extremely helpful and helped us plan out our stay. We tried to book tours through trip advisor but the dates we wanted weren't available. The hotel staff helped us book the tours with local companies " prive tours", they were awesome. Very informative, well organized, fun and safe!. The spa at the hotel was fantastic! And the wait staff at the restaurant was very attentive, especially at dinner. Would highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Bahia!!
"The iconic hotel in Salvador, Bahia"
A long time ago, this hotel used to be the most iconic in Salvador. It´s former name was Hotel da Bahia. Now it is in the Sheraton network. It keeps some of its past status, the building has an interesting architecture, the rooms are large and were renovated. It has a nice restaurant with a terrace. The food is good as well as the service. The only dislike I had was the humidity odour in the lobby and restaurant, maybe because it rained in the day before my arrival. Anyway, it is not something pleasant.
"Definitely not Sheraton standard"
I stayed at the hotel for business and had a deplorable experience. The food at the restaurant had absolutely no taste whatsoever. The food offered during the business meeting was inedible and all options were sweet. At the time of checkout there was only one staff member and a group was checking in so I had to wait for quite some time to be able to checkout. When it was finally my turn, one of the guests who had just checked in came back down as their key wasn't working. And to my utter surprise the clerk, Juliomar, just stoped checking me out and started helping the other guest. All my incidentals but alcohol were charged to my company but the clerk told me that was not the case and even when I showed the reservation email he told me I had to pay. Reading other reviews before I wrote mine I realized why these problems happen. Did you also realize that all management replies are a standard copy and paste that don't even give a decent explanation or apology' Hey Starwood! Wake up!
