"Not what it used to be"
I have stayed here more than 20 times and the experience has always been great but the standards are lowering, the saltwater pool surround is in a terrible condition, the drinks are very expensive and the weekends are always very busy with weddings and locals using the facilities so its not what I remember which is a shame
"Good Experience, not quite great"
We stayed here for a week and enjoyed our time and the hotel in general. Staff were all friendly and keen to help and generally standards were good. We stayed B&B and the breakfast each morning was of a good standard and a great range of choice which was lovely. The pools were clean and we generally were able to get a sunbed although as the week went on the early towel droppers did increase, but we had beds every day and the team were always available to bring over parasols if required. The minor gripes would be; When we checked into the room, the digital safe would not work, the front panel was lose and although it was attended to quickly, we had to wait during the process which took a period of time with batteries being replaced, then a cable and finally the whole front panel. The room we had, had a damp smell in it, with patches of black damp showing through the paint above the shower cubicle and the paint bubbling and part blown around the ceiling vent by the door into the room. The team offered us other rooms when we raised it, but as neither had a double bed, we chose to stay with that and asked that housekeeping leave the balcony doors open daily rather than close them, to air the room - this was only done 50% of the time which was frustrating to have to repeat the request. The flooring around the saltwater pool is starting to break up, meaning a lot of chippings appearing when walking to/ from the pool, which I'm sure will be relaid at some point. When we had ordered wine, the glasses brought across were recently out of the washer as they were hot and this had to be asked to be fixed which I would have expected to have been a service standard These are minor gripes, and as I say the hotel, facitlites and grounds were all very good but its the reason I wouldn't award a 5, hopefully the room issue is a one off as we would consider coming back here as we enjoyed
"Another Fabulous Holiday"
This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Sheraton La Caleta and again we had a fabulous holiday. The hotel location between Playa del Duque and La Caleta is idea for us, it being a relatively quiet location but with easy walking access to bars and restaurants. On arrival we greeted immediately and checked in promptly, with the receptionist noting we had stayed on 2 previous occasions and welcomed us back. Our room was a garden view room, and although not the best allocation overlooking the terrace bar it was fine for the amount of time we spent in it. The room was cleaned well, although we took advantage of the green choice to receive a 5 Euro voucher in return for not having it cleaned on some days. The bathroom towels are now in need of replacement, and the large towels could do with being bigger similar to the pool towels.. Once again we stayed B&B only so that we can use the lovely local restaurants for evening meals. The buffet breakfast continues to be excellent with a really good choice of hot and cold food, with omelettes and fried eggs cooked to order, Service at breakfast was always good, being seated in our choice of outdoor seating almost immediately on every one of our 10 mornings. The staff at breakfast are friendly and helpful, bringing coffee or tea and clearing plates promptly. This holiday was planned to be a relaxing holiday, so we spent a lot of our time by the pool so we used the pool bar at lunchtime everyday, for a couple of beers and a snack. The waiting staff were helpful and friendly, particularly the 2 trainees (Maria and Claudia). The saltwater pool continues to feel cold at first but is ok after a few minutes acclimatisation, although it is now getting ready for the pool bottom to be painted. The red concrete around the pool is still in need of replacement as it continues to break up due to water and sunbed damage. The lifeguards on duty were friendly and helpful, assisting guests with the relocation of extra parasols and on a couple of occasions assisting an elderly gentleman in and out of the pool back to his sunbed. We used the terrace bar on several evenings for pre-dinner cocktails and service was always good, although drinks prices are still expensive compared to other local bars. On one evening we ate in the Japanese restaurant Kamakura and had a fabulous meal, with excellent service. We chose the 6 course Kamakura tasting menu which gives a good selection of different dishes. A visit to Kamakura is a once in a holiday treat as the meals are quite expensive. Due to our flight being late in the day we requested a late checkout, which the hotel were able to accommodate even thought the hotel was quite busy. The receptionist on duty shuffled other room allocations so we were able to keep our room until 4pm, which enable us to make more of our last day. Overall we had a fabulous holiday and we will return again and we would be happy to recommend the hotel to friends.
"Very poor service"
It's the little things that spoil a holiday and in my opinion lack of service at this hotel is down to poor management. Magnificent hotel and food however if looking for service forget it. Queue at Reception. 10-15 mins Additional room service i.e towels etc request 2 hrs New batteries for remote 2 days and waiting. It's not just me several guest really unhappy . Chris
As many other reviewers have said this is a really great resort hotel, excellent location, great spacious rooms, excellent staff, lives up to expectations for 5 star accommodation. Usually go for adults only hotels, but as they advertised children's pool and club, we were a bit surprised to find that the shallow end of both the main pools were sectioned off for the children to use, which meant kids being kids in both the pools. Some reviewers had mentioned the fact that the beach just out front and to the side of the hotel was getting a big make over, this was still going on, which meant a bit of a walk to the nearest beach. All in all fantastic hotel and great holiday.
