"Two days in Dresden."
Whilst on a short tour we stayed at the Steigenberger Hotel which is very well situated to see the many attractions in this rebuiilt city. The bedroom was a good size and the bathroom very well appointed. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very courteous. We would definately stay there again if visiting Dresden in the future as 2 days was not enough.
You couldn't get any more central other than sitting on the statue in the centre of the square. It was warm - mid 20s so hoped the a/c worked well and it did. Nice big room - were with a Riviera tour group so no chance of asking for a Square view. Breakfast excellent plenty of hot and cold choice and the staff we met were very courteous and helpful. Wifi worked well and the room was very quiet. I can't help making one observation though. Given the recent political history of the DDR I found it strange and slightly annoying to be told by the breakfast manager to "go behind the wall" to join our tour group for breakfast. I suggest an alternative choice of words would be welcomed. Other than that 5 stars
"Ideal situation in town"
We have some comments. Hopefully improved at next visit. We want to sleep in one bed for two, made with one quilt (not two). Therefore poor sleping facility. Spargels in the restaurant were perfect as were the drinks in the lobbybar.
"Ideal central location"
We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a group. The hotel is situated on the edge of the main square with restaurants, cafes and bars all within steps. This means excess walking to all of the main attractions, of which there are many. The hotel is extremely comfortable and very modern. I always take my own toiletries but I was surprised to find only a tiny shampoo and conditioner and a similar-sized body lotion. The soap for the sink is a built-in dispenser and the shower cream is a 'bolt-on'. This, I feel, may irk some people, especially if you want to take a bath rather than shower (essential for us older people whose back and joints require the magic of a warm water soak!) There is a restaurant and bar and an outside café serving excellent Kaffee und Kuchen that we can attest to! Breakfast is a sumptuous buffet offering hot and cold dishes in an attractive dining room - which has an outdoor balcony overlooking the square. Service was excellent throughout the hotel. I would stay here again in a heartbeat; what a great place to use as a base for such a lovely city.
"Great hotel, excellent location and breakfast"
First of all location. The hotel is in the heart of Dresden and all attractions are in walking distance. There are two cheap ways to get here from hauptbanhof (main station):10-15 min on foot or 3 stops on tram (#3 or #7). I asked quiet room and was given room 615 on the 6 floor. It turned out to be a real quiet room with excellent sound isolation. I don't even know if somebody live next to me. The room is really spacious by European standards and has everything you need:comfortable bed, TV, big table, chair and small table, safe, mini bar and tea making facilities. In the bathroom you will find bath tube, shampoo and body lotion. Unfortunately there is no sleepers and bathrobe. Breakfast deserves a special mention. Salmon, cheeses, fritters, sausage and ham, sausages, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, various muesli and flakes, different yogurts, fresh juises, fruits and vegetables, shampagne!, pastries and cakes-In a word, the choice is huge. Everything is fresh and tasty. So i would stay again here.
