Comment of O. Mario , France the 2016-11-29

"Three stars is generous"
Location great for sure. This is the old Ritz Carlton but a far cry from its former glory. The bar is still somewhat intact although it appears to look a little chintzy in comparison to the Ritz days. Used to be my favorite bar in Boston. My room was a corner room on 15. It appeared to be clean which was a plus. But, it was in need of renovation. The furniture was rickety, upholstery was frayed and just generally shabby looking. One window had a set of sheers that were two different lengths. One was at floor length, the other about 6 inches too long. The hallways are now painted with a glossy cheap yellow color which I suppose makes for easy clean-up but looks gross. Paintings and mirrors are hung poorly and are sparse. It's too bad that such a valuable property is not honoring its location or its history. I would not stay there again.
"Don't expect hot water"
Great location but don't expect to take a hot shower at this place with with $800 per night rate. Took the hotel over 2 hours to resolve the issue. No apologies from the front desk when called. No follow up from management to offer any kind of compensation.
"Beautiful hotel and location"
The location is wonderful, across the street from the Public Garden. Rooms are tasteful and pleasing to the eye. Bathrooms are modern and sparkling clean. Staff is courteous and child-friendly. The food is delicious though expensive. Our room was quiet and I could not hear people in adjacent rooms or hallway noise. We slept very well. The complimentary shoe shine service was a nice touch.
"Graduation weekend in boston"
The hotel has the best location at the top of Newburry Street. The hotel is not being properly taken care of. The ac was not working properly and the property is run down. The room is old. The interenet was inconsistent. The servie in the restaurant was ok. The bar was excellent.
"Staying at The Taj IS Staying in Boston The Way It's Meant To Be"
I'm writing this re-review of The Taj a few months after our most recent stay but let me say that it has remained about as close as one can get to the standards of "old Boston" when the place was the Ritz Carlton and the "creme de la creme" wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. We had a deluxe king and the classic furnishings were as comfortable as could be. What's more important than the bed when staying away from home and in this regard The Taj provides a comfortable and tranquil night's sleep. We prefer a room turned towards the courtyard because it provides the most quiet and the most privacy. The bathroom is, as always, ample but it seemed to me that the toiletries have been downgraded. Note to senior management: these small changes DO make a difference and savvy customers always take note. WHERE WAS MY MOULTON BROWN' Otherwise, everything was in order, television large and modern with many channels etc. and a well stocked mini-bar. I know I'm in Boston - I lived there for years, but after having resisted the installation of televisions for ages it seems they've succumbed and sports programming is now on offer. I will never agree that this is correct for a hotel like this. I hate it at The Four Seasons as well but here, overlooking The Public Garden, I really don't care about The Pats or The Celtics or The Red Sox or The Bruins, sorry. No, I want to enjoy quietude with my company in peace and quiet and the sports bar people can find a TGIF to satisfy their cravings. Having said all this, they make one damned good martini. As to the Cafe, let me say that we had our anniversary dinner there and were treated in the most lovely way. We had ordered sangria in the bar (for 2, served in an old absinthe dispenser) and they brought it for us into the dining room. It was a rainy Sunday evening and we were just about the only guests dining and that was fine with us. We had a nice meal in a lovely setting and were even offered a scrumptious chocolate cheese cake for 2 "on the house" to congratulate us on our 14 years together. We were warmly touched and most appreciated and it's the sort of thing one DOES expect and hope for when staying at a great old girl like The Taj. So bring back the Moulton Brown, 86 the televisions from the bar and all will be well again.
