"Terrou-Bi - Not terrible but close"
I had read reviews of people being overcharged, accounts debited and never credited but had hoped this would not happen...well, this did happen and I am still waiting for the refund more than a month later. The hotel promises a lot but fails to deliver in various ways - the location is good and the rooms a comfortable size however the food, service and peace of mind is a lot better at their immediate competitor. Not a hotel I would recommend.
Terrou-Bi hotel is my favorite place to stay in Dakar, Hotel is very modern with great good looking rooms, clean and quiet. very nice beach and large pool. the hotel also has several restaurants with good food. Breakfast has lots of choice. There is also a Casino in the hotel which is always pretty busy, separated from the rooms so no hinder from this activity. This place is perfect for business travel but suits also very well for holidays, relaxing on the beach, or enjoy a good drink on the terrace (Room or bar/restaurant) or do some work in the room its all possible in the best environment. The gym is also well equipped.
The hotel hosted the launch of a new product from a mobile phone company one night. It was held in the grounds of the hotel and an enthusiastic MC could be heard over the microphone entertaining the crowd and singing with music to accompany him. The noise from the event was so loud I could still hear every single word being sung while wearing silicon earplugs in my bedroom. I got five hours sleep that night and was told by the receptionist that the music would not stop until the event finished at midnight. My 5am start the next morning was, to say the least, difficult. I was promised recompense and when I enquired about that the next day I was asked by the same receptionist if I could still hear the music and to stop complaining. The company for which I work spent over €30,000 in the hotel that week on bedrooms and this is how we were treated. The management cared so little for their guests that they allowed, what amounted to a music concert, to be played on the grounds of the hotel disrupting other guests. It was upsetting and disrespectful. This is the main reason why I wrote this review to warn others about the attitude of the management of the hotel. Other minor issues which would not have warranted a review on their own were: When I checked in at 10pm my room wasn't ready. I got my key at 11:15pm. The next morning at breakfast I was told I wasn't checked in and was charged for my meal despite it being included in my room rate. This was STILL on my bill when I checked out. Breakfast is a buffet, as one would expect, but coffee and eggs must be ordered from waiters. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes for this, as service is slow and needs reminding. 5 Items from the mini bar, which I never touched, were on my bill when I checked out. This happened to two of my colleagues and one of our clients. Food and beverage on your bill is listed as just that with no further detail, therefore take note of everything you put on your room and scrutinise it when checking out. You'll be glad you did. The electronic lock on my room stopped working one morning when I was under pressure to leave on time to get to work. The concierge refused to accept my version of what was wrong with the lock and proceeded to give me a lesson in how to use a key card, like I was some kind of moron. When he finally accepted that the lock was in fact broken, it took a further 30 minutes to get an electrician to open the door. The time I lost had a knock on effect all morning for meetings that I had lined up. Local Dakar residents use the hotel at weekends to socialise and it gets quite busy. This didn't bother me but if chilling out is what you want then you may need to reconsider. During the week though, it's blissfully peaceful (during the day). No doubt the management of the hotel will reply to this review by saying my views are not in accordance with the rest of the Tripadvisor Community because after all Terrou-bi is another world.....your world. This kind of patronising, arrogant response to criticism, as seen in other reviews below, perfectly displays what will happen to you if you experience a problem while staying at this hotel. You've been warned. Go to the Radisson down the street. It's worth it for the extra money you'll spend.
"Lots to like with room for improvement."
Stayed here for a week on a business trip. The rooms are clean and the staff was very pleasant. I had a couple of problems that the staff was able to resolve right away. The biggest challenge with this hotel is their poor wifi. It inhibits productive work and causes poor communication. The staff tried to address this issue but the reality is that unless you are in one of the business rooms all the hotel rooms have poor connections. Great views, decent food and clean rooms. I would stay here again.
"Modern, Well Appointed Beach Hotel ... Slow Service, Noisy"
Perhaps a 5-star by Dakar standards, this hotel has all the amenities expected of a small 4 star resort. The beach is unspectacular, though the pool is a large, well-positioned alternative (slow drink service, very slow). Service in the hotel was generally helpful despite the lack of English spoken. Odd that the front desk could never break a 5000 CFA bill for taxis. During our stay, the hotel was conducting an unexpected, morning "terrorist/hostage" drill so we were surprised to wake up to the sound of fake gunfire and screaming. There was also construction noise ... neither very desirable during a vacation.
