"Fabulous hotel but our "suite" was very small"
I have tried many hotels in London, since we visit London frequently and I like to try new things. So this review comes from a place of comparisons to hotels such as Four Seasons Park Lane, Charlotte Street Hotel, The Sofitel St. James, the Arch, the Kensington, all of which we've stayed at in the last few years, not to mention many more. In terms of service, this hotel is fantastic and exactly what you expect from the likes of the Connaught and a Four Seasons. They definitely have service down and know how to make a guest feel very welcome, without being overly intrusive. It is an art that they have mastered. Our checkin was seamless, as expected. There were three people in our party and we had what they described as a superior junior suite. I was surprised when we were shown to our room as the word suite implies a sitting area. Our room did not have one. There was a very small chair and a tiny side table behind the door just as you entered the room, but that is certainly not the classic definition of a sitting room. So to be entirely honest, the room was a disappointment and much, much smaller than I imagined or the photos showed. In fact, in the description of the room it specifically says "elegant seating area." If there was such a thing in the room we were assigned, I certainly missed it! Service only gets you so far. We booked a suite because we wanted to be able to move around in our room and that was not really possible at all in the room we were assigned. Overall, the room was disappointing although beautifully appointed with a fantastic, very high-tech bathroom. The breakfasts were amazing. We had breakfast there on 3 separate occasions and each time ordered something different and found it fabulous. The service was impeccable. We tried to have afternoon tea there but were told it's fully booked, which was again disappointing. As a guest paying well over 800 pounds a nights for a very small room, I would think that the hotel would accommodate guests staying with them, but it was not a big deal. Instead we went to tea at the Langham which was absolutely FABULOUS and I would, highly, highly recommend it. The location of the hotel was nice depending on where you want to go. It was about a 10 minute walk to most locations we were interested in (shopping areas, Hyde Park, etc,) yet on a quiet, lovely street. So then the question is which hotel would I return to when we're in London next' To be honest, given the size of the room, I don't think we will return to the Connaught, although it pains me to say it because the service was so good and the staff so friendly. On our way out of London on this same trip, we spent 2 nights at the Arch in a suite and that room was substantially larger and more comfortable that the one we were assigned at the Connaught. Their service was not as impeccable as the Connaught but on balance, we were more comfortable in our room which is where we spend most of our hotel time. Similarly, the suites at the Sofitel are absolutely enormous compared to our room at the Connaught (and these rooms are all around the same price). If you want to go for the fabulous service, then the Connaught and the Four Seasons are your hotel (the Four Seasons has similarly small rooms) If you want to go for very, very good service but a more comfortable room with space to move around, I recommend the Sofitel and the Arch. Given the disappointing room, it is a testament to the Connaught's service and food that I am still giving this hotel 4 stars....
"An outstanding hotel"
An extremely well run hotel in every respect. It is worth the price! From check in to check out a flawless experience. The new casual restaurant, Jean George, is a very good addition. Breakfast there is an experience.
"Amazing, simply the best!!"
Wonderful English style hotel that is intimate, private and luxurious. Excellent location. Room was extremely comfortable and quiet with marble baths. The staff are amazing by very high standards. Everytime I turned around, someone was there to help. Excellent meals with great service in the new opened Jean George restaurant. Best 5 star hotel experience I have had in a long time. This must be the best hotel in London!
Stayed at the Connaught for my birthday. We were upgraded from a Superior Junior suite to a suite complete with Butler. We had a complimentary bottle of very expensive champagne and a small birthday cake. The suite was huge and extremely comfortable. The bed was also huge and very comfy with lovely fluffy pillows. There were even 2 Burberry macs in the wardrobe to use if it rained. There was a huge bathroom with a separate bath and shower and a TV at the end of the bath. There was also a separate toilet as well as the one in the bathroom. This was a novelty to me as never experienced it before. We had lunch in Jean-Georges restaurant which was delicious. All the staff we came into contact with were professional but extremely friendly and helpful but not stuffy. I would recommend the hotel and will be returning again I hope in the future.
"A wonderful stay "
We spent a wonderful 24 hours at The Connaught to celebrate my husband's birthday and for a mini babymoon (we are expecting twins). From the moment we entered the hotel to the moment we left the staff were so welcoming and attentive. From lovely touches such as two little teddy bears placed on the bed as a gift for the twins, to our room upgrade, a complimentary cake and fruit bowl to our room and a pregnancy pillow we felt like we were honoured guests ! The room was beautiful with extremely comfortable bed and oh so quiet ! We visited the spa and had expert therapists who gave excellent massages. We also had a wonderful dining experience at Helene Darroze where the good and service were both excellent. This hotel is 5* in every sense.
