"Beautiful and incredible amount of space!"
There are few places with more history and reputation for excellence in Chicago like The Drake. It is clear they know how to run a nice hotel and have been doing it for decades, as every touch in the room was about allowing you to relax and decompress after your time in the busy city around this hotel. Clearly this is an older hotel, but because of that, the rooms are much larger than most hotels, as they haven't tried to cram as many as they can like the newer ones that force you to sleep in a broom closet. We loved our room and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful every time we asked for something. The two nits I had for this hotel were the bathroom seemed a bit worn for the elegance they try to portray, and the staff in the main areas could be a bit slow when we asked for something down there. Otherwise a great stay in a great location, and the perfect classic Chicago experience!
"A beautiful hotel, nice service, decent perks"
Recent weekend in the city and stayed here for a couple nights. The rooms are very roomy but you can hear a lot of hallway noise. Folks are very pleasant but sometimes the "rover" in the lobby was a little too much - a very nice and kind person but sometimes I did not want to talk that much. Buffet breakfast was wonderful but when you have HH discounts, even better.
This is a classic hotel in Chicago. We got a room overlooking Oak street beach. IT was extremely comfortable and old style... the furnishings could be updated and were a trifle dusty and it seems that a deep cleaning was in order. The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. The staff are very friendly.
"Over-priced for service and accommodations"
We don't mind paying more for great service and a great experience so when we asked the concierge for tips for a great family place to watch the Cubs game and we were met with irritation and a quick "just watch it downstairs" we were disappointed. We also received the same level of service when we were questioning about the breakfast options at the hotel. We were told they did made to order breakfast AND the buffet but that was incorrect. When we were told by restaurant staff that the made to breakfast was not available we were met with "we haven't done that in 4 months" like we were supposed to know this already. We also got "well they do made to order for room service". Whether the miscommunication was our fault or theirs, we should have at least heard an apology of some sort, we did not get that. On the positive side the lobby and common areas are beautiful. I would not recommend someone to stay here just for that. There would have to be some serious changes before I considered staying at this historic hotel again, which is a shame.
"Spacious rooms but a bit noisy"
The hotel is older and the rooms quite big. The bed was comfortable and the staff friendly. Only problem was that the plumbing in the section I was in on the 4th floor was noisy. It is also quite a distance to get to the start of the tourist things. There is no hotel courtesy bus from the airport which means you need to get a train and a taxi or just a taxi. Many of the hotels have a courtesy bus.
