The hotel was beautiful, the staff friendly, knowledgeable and friendly. The room was very nice and the pool area was beautiful and the perfect place to spend any part of the day. I am glad we stayed here and will be coming back for sure!Comment of W. Christie , United States the 2016-07-01
A great stay, for a great price. Not the best Fairmont hotel in the world but most definitely the best for the money. Great complimentary shuttle service to the nearby shops and beaches and Santa Ana airport, where you can pick up transfers to Disneyland and further afield.Comment of L. I was very pleased with the staff for our National Convention. There are always changes at such big events and your staff was flexible, helpful, courteous, friendly, and always professional. Here's what I loved my room: mini frig, sitting area, office space, modern bathroom decor and accessories. Loved the wall mounted vanity mirror. Room had ample mirrors to check myself prior to leaving for daily activities. Free In room safe. Power strip in sitting area to plug in my gear. Large screen television. -Beautiful lobby with ample seating. -Hotel layout and conference rooms. -Fitness center and swimming pool. -Bamboo Garden -Orchid Room -Wine Cellar
"Visited when this was still the Fairmont Newport Beach"
I loved this hotel. It was pricey but everything was really nice and comfortable. The food at the restaurant was yummy, and the pool area was very relaxing. The firepit was really a great addition for cool evenings.
"The Duke will do"
The Duke Hotel is a good choice for a stay in the Newport Beach area. It previously was the Fairmont Hotel, and before that the Sutton and before that something else and before that The Meridien Hotel. All hotels were 5 star and The Duke, while not as fabulous as the others, is above the rest in the immediate area. Sadly, though, there is no self parking, so even just running in to pick up a guest or making a drop costs you a tip and a toss of your keys to the Valet for a 5 minute run in to handle whatever needs handling. Food choices are a bit pricey, and while most hotels in the area include a buffet breakfast in the price of the stay, The Duke only offers a breakfast in their restaurant or room service--both of which add more bucks to your bottom line cost per night stay. I do love the décor at the hotel and the front counter staff are more than helpful. But, in the end, I would prefer an all inclusive hotel that does not charge you every time you turn around.....Car Valet at check in....Kaching! Bellman to help with bags...Kaching!.....Breakfast.....Kaching! Get your car to go out from the Valet...Kaching! Return your car to the Valet...Kaching! And so it goes. If you're ready with a lot of additional money, then the surprising Kachings! don't hurt and your stay at The Duke will be memorable and delightful.....
"Close to SNA"
I stayed at The Duke Hotel for 1 night in June 2017 in conjunction with a business meeting held at the hotel. Checking in, the desk staff were friendly. The room was average (except for the non-functioning alarm clock and TV remote, and the part about finding someone else's shaving paraphernalia on the tub rim [how carefully was the room cleaned, you -- and I -- might wonder]). The wifi was good. There's nothing special here, but the room was OK. I was a little sad that, on check-out, when I let the front desk staff know about the problems in the room, the answer was to write them down, but with not even an 'I'm sorry.'
The staff was more than accommodating. There are kind people working in this hotel. The rooms were quiet, clean, and they upgraded us to make our stay even more pleasant. The bellman, Christian, was super helpful and hardworking. The airport is really close by which I didn't realize but it was pretty fun to watch the planes take off and land and there wasn't a noise issue with them. The pool was nice and we had it to ourselves most of the time. The only thing to consider is the beds are on the softer side and the sheets were so/so, which for my husband was tough because of a bad back. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and enjoyed our stay. People complained on here about the parking. It is what it is so factor that into your stay. Overall, I would highly rate this hotel and would stay again.
