"Wonderful stay at a great location"
Admittedly, I was initially a little apprehensive staying at this hotel because of a miscommunication with the Front Office Manager but once on the property I knew I had made the right choice. The staff was very accommodating from the Check in professional, Jeremy to the bellman Eric, everyone was very accommodating. The team's local food and activity recommendation were right on point. The room, a double queens size, was spacious, comfortable and as noted I other reviews, had the largest TV I have ever seen in a hotel room. One of the elements I respect and appreciated was the fact that the hotel staff would walk around the lobby and speak with the guests to find out how they are doing, what they thought of the property and to offer recommendations. I know to most this seems like a minor thing but this type of caring is very rarely found in any hotels today and part of what makes the Gwen indeed a luxury location. Overall, a highly recommended destination.
"The Gwen Hotel, Chicago"
The Gwen is perfectly located in the heart of the city. The hotel is located on the Mag Mile and is connected to the Northbridge Mall. You are in walking distance to everything from restaurants, shopping, Millenium Park, the Bean, boat tours and theaters, etc. The hotel is newly renovated and it is beautiful. The rooms are spacious, very clean and they even come with a 65"TV. Upstairs at the Gwen is their new outdoor space lounge complete with fireplaces and TV's. It is located on the 5th floor. You literally feel like you are sitting in the hub of the city, and yet the vibe has a very relaxing quiet feel to it. The bar appetizers were very good too. The best part was the service. Everyone from the front desk staff to the concierges were very welcoming. Frank was very helpful in making sure our rooms were ready and answering all of our questions. Ramon the concierge was great too. Danielle and the rest of the front desk staff could not have been more accommodating and nice. I look forward to my next stay at the Gwen. I can't wait to share my experience with friends and family.
"stayed at the hotel several times now"
it has been my go to Hotel. I previously stayed at the Peninsula, really like this hotel better. Want to make a special shout out to Mark Smith, the Door Man, he really goes out of his way to make guest feel special and like he cares!
"Great place to unwind"
Used some SPG points to score a SPG Moment at Wrigley Field for Billy Joel concert. Figured I'd stay at a SPG property, haven't done a Luxury Collection location in a while, so The Gwen was it. Check in was a breeze at the Platinum desk, everything was ready for our early check-in, room preferences met to a tee. Associate checking us in was quite helpful and knowledgeable, provided directions to the red line and cost of tickets that we spot on. Room appointments were great, room was larger that expected, bathroom was very nice. Huge TV, not that we watched it much, but it was nice. Property is walking distance to Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Chicago river (if you don't mind 10-15 worth of walking). After our walk, we sat in the lobby bar for a refreshment, server was stellar and we had a couple of managers come by to check how we were doing and chatting the guests up. Mentioned the SPG Moment that evening and they were amazed that they met someone who scored one of those. I'm not a coffee person, but my wife is, and oddly enough, there's no coffee/coffee maker in the rooms, so being the good husband I am, I had to trek down to the lobby in the morning to get her cup o' joe. I guess that's the only knock I'd have. Staff all around was great.
I booked a room for a Birthday weekend "staycation" with my SPG points. The room was large and beautifully decorated. I'm guessing the TV was 60"' In any case the largest I've seen in a hotel room. Bathroom was also spacious with a separate toilet room and separate shower and bath. I spent much of the evening at the outdoor bar, "Upstairs at the Gwen," which was a great place to relax and have a few drinks and dinner. It was a great stay and I look forward to returning!
