"Love, love, love The Gwen"
Enjoyed five fantastic nights at The Gwen. Great location, inviting lobby, spacious outdoor deck with fire pits, happy hour, live music, large rooms, customer focused staff (a special thanks to Patrick) and a fabulous place to ensure you have a wonderful Chicago experience. About our stay: We were visiting The Gwen for our daughter's wedding and arrived from Tampa just a few days before Hurricane Irma barrelled down on our city. The Gwen staff helped us with all our wedding needs ( pressed clothes, roll away beds, etc.) while working with our entire out of town guests who had to add additional nights because all airports closed in Florida for several days. The staff always smiled and got to know our out if town guests. They made sure we all had a stay to remember. You must give The Gwen a try during your next stop in Chicago. I am betting you will call it your favorite Chicago hotel. Diane R. Tampa, FL
"My new favorite hotel in Chicago"
I stayed here for 3 nights on a family vacation with 3 adult women and 2 teens. We had 2 connecting rooms: one had a king bed and rollaway, and the other had two queen beds. Both rooms and bathrooms were large and luxurious with some nice touches (for example, very plush bathrobes). Each room had an empty mini-fridge, which to me is far preferable to having a one full of high-priced items with no room to put your own drinks. The hotel is in a fantastic location with countless shopping and restaurants nearby, including a completely enclosed walkway to the Shops at North Bridge (includes one of the best Nordstrom stores in the country plus many other shops and restaurants), as well as a train station. The employees I interacted with were polite though I didn't need much other than routine things, such as checking in and out. The exception was when we got to the lounge with a hungry teenager, and the kitchen had officially closed about 20 minutes earlier. A man who appeared to be the lounge manager saw me looking around for help and came over to see what we needed. He immediately said they could absolutely get food for us, and we appreciated him going above and beyond on service. I only have two small recommendations for improvement. First, they should leave out the ice water by the lobby elevator 24/7. When we came home late at night, we would have been glad to have some water, but it was always put away then. Second, one of our rooms happened to be wheelchair accessible (we didn’t request this) and had no tall hanging space. That was problematic for someone who had several dresses with me, but fortunately I just put them in the closet in the other room. I'm a SPG Gold member and have stayed at multiple Starwood properties in Chicago. This one is a great value for free nights: the number of points required was comparable to other properties that are far less luxurious. This is definitely the nicest Starwood property I’ve visited in Chicago and my favorite so far. I’ll be back!
"stay at the end of a wedding trip"
Stayed here for 2 nights after being out for a wedding, great position, lovely hotel, rooms and staff. My only personal improvement would be coffee/tea making facility required in room, although they do provide free coffee/hot water in the mornings, would have liked after being out all day to be able to make a cup in the room while freshening up to go out in evening ( a British thing)
"Excellent all round"
Spent a 4 night break here and couldn't fault it in any way. Nice big rooms with all mod cons (and the biggest TV I've ever seen in a hotel room), comfortable bar and lounge areas, great outdoor terrace on the 6th floor, very helpful staff, and centrally located; not far short of perfect. I didn't eat at the Gwen at all so can't comment on that.
"From a 1-10, a perfect 11 despite Room Service issues"
We had a fun ...and crazy... weekend in Chicago! The Gwen is definitely a hotel I would go back to without question. The terrace is great and drinks are spot on. We had some miscommunication with room service the first night (don't need to get into it) but Patrick Ross from the Front Office got on the phone and orchestrated everything almost immediately and made us forget about the problems. The service at this property is probably the best in Chicago. They seem to pretty much care a lot about their guests. Unlike other hotels downtown I've been to I actually recommend this place without a doubt
